| (YLE) The General Music Director of the Finnish National Opera Mikko Franck has unexpectedly announced his resignation.
He says the decision is over disputes with the opera's senior management.
He was appointed as General Music Director last August on an agreement extending until 2011. His period of resignation is one year.
The National Opera has experienced severe financial difficulties in recent years and its entire staff is being laid-off for a period next spring.
Mikko Franck has earlier served as musical director of the Belgian National Opera. He has also led the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra as well as many international orchestras such as those in Chicago, London and San Francisco. | |
