Bucky Covington, a finalist on the 2006 season of American Idol, has signed to Lyric Street Records. A label representative confirmed it expects to release Covington's first single, "Different World," later this month. Nashville Business Journal reported the signing over the holidays in an interview with the label president, Randy Goodman. Other artists on the label include Rascal Flatts, SHeDAISY and Josh Gracin (also an Idol finalist). Covington announced in September that Sawyer Brown's Mark Miller would be producing the sessions for his debut album.

I heard the rocker dude on the radio this week. Chris Duaghtry, not sure how you spell his last name.

It was on the classic rock station. Song was o.k., but it was too generic for me.

Sorry...but Daughtry is not generic. The guy sold over 1 million after just 5 weeks. Its a great CD!

"The album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 behind Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come." It sold approximately 304,000 copies in its first week, making it the second highest first week sales of any Ameican Idol singer who did not win the competition (the highest first week sales of any American Idol singer to date is Clay Aiken's Measure of a Man, with over 613,000 copies sold in its first week).

Despite Daughtry coming in fourth place in the fifth season, the album beat out first week sales of the season's winner, Taylor Hicks, whose eponymous debut album sold 298,000 copies in its first week. The album also came close to beating the first week sales of the season four winner, Carrie Underwood, whose CD Some Hearts sold 315,000 copies in its first week of release.

The album was certified Platinum on December 27, 2006."

As "American Idol" preps its sixth season, former finalist, Paris Bennett, independently plans her own tour and the release of her debut CD, Princess P.

Bennett, niece of inspirational singer Anne Nesby originally from the Sounds of Blackness, signed with 306 Entertainment for her debut set. "Dreamin'," the autobiographical first single, is slated to impact iTunes and radio in January of 2007. The 18-year-old co-wrote the majority of the songs on the album which also boasts production from Jon Jon TraXX, Darren Lightey and Rodney Jerkins.

Princess P is scheduled to hit shelves in March of 2007

Former American Idol sweetheart Kellie Pickler has signed a record deal with country label BNA Records and 19 Recordings, the label founded by Idol creator Simon Fuller, the Associated Press reports.

Kellie album came out in November.

I also read somewhere recently that Mandissa doubted God when she was ousted from Idol. Some Christian to doubt God just because you were booted from a TV show.

Chris Daughtry isn't generic... but, for you, Whidden... well, it's just because you put salt in your beer.

Chris' album, as Mystic has posted, went platinum in the first month. BEAT THAT!

Diana DeGarmo is still on Broadway... and belting out the songs of Hairspray. But, I hear that there are works for another album Blue Skies, her first album, was really great, and I can't wait for more.

Kellie's album is out, and Katharine McPhee's comes out at the end of this month. My brother bought it for me, for my birthday, and it will ship on the release date. Can't wait.

Now....tell me again how he didnt win? I dont get it...this is just like Clay. How does someone win in sales over the actual winner and yet, not win?? I think there needs to be some explanation on this fact!

Anyhow...pulled this from another article: (I know you'll love this as much as I did!)

Chris Daughtry is blowing Taylor Hicks away in CD sales.
Intense rocker Chris Daughtry, who was surprisingly voted off early and came in fourth last year, is proving to be more popular than any other nonwinner of "Idol" since Season 2's Clay Aiken. In just five weeks, Daughtry's CD has sold more than 1 million copies, and his debut single, "It's Not Over," has signs of being a smash on Top 40 and rock stations. In comparison, Taylor Hicks' self-titled CD has sold a respectable 540,000 copies in three weeks, but that's well behind Daughtry's pace. It's not helping that Hicks' record label has yet to release a single to radio.

Another thing I found:

It's official. As of last week, Daughtry's sales went over the one million mark, making Chris the first non-winner/runner-up to sell platinum. The album had already been certified platinum for units shipped - selling a million is the icing on the cake for Chris and his fans. What's significant, though is that Chris' first week sales were higher than this year's winner. Granted, Taylor's CD topped the 500,000 mark in two weeks, but already fans are concerned that these numbers will drop in the post-holiday sales slump. It is certainly possible that, in the short run at least, the fourth place finisher will outsell the current season winner. Spin this any way you want, but facts are facts.

As American Idol 6 gears up, Chris' success presents a bit of a conundrum. On the one hand, he's a platinum selling artist, but on the other, he was not the winner and his success could well send a message that winning really isn't important. Could this affect voting? Might viewers decided that a certain individual might not need to win? Could there be Internet campaigns similar to Vote for the Worst to determine who should not win? It's an interesting concept.

To go a step further, look at Ruben and Fantasia - two winners whose recently released CDs have been disappointing. Even Clay's most recent effort has already sold more than both of theirs combined.

Commercials for the upcoming season have been running on Fox for weeks. Early on, they featured clips of Taylor's audition and his finale performance of "Do I Make You Proud." This week, however, the commercials seem to have taken a bit of a twist, featuring not only Taylor, but also Chris and Katharine. These commercials appear to me to be attempting to appeal directly to the Chris Daughtry contingent. The producers are not stupid, after all. Still, this strategy could well backfire.

Chris will appear on Fox's New Year's Eve special, performing along with Toni Braxton. Taylor will perform at the Orange Bowl halftime on January 2, singing one song from his CD and "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" with Gladys Knight. Expect Taylor to turn up on Idol during the February sweeps period. And don't be surprised to see Chris as well. Remember, Idol is about making money, and ratings increase ad revenue. If TPTB think they can increase ratings by having Chris perform, he will be there. This story is not over yet.

Thanks for the articles, Mystic.

It's quite true. I know that Chris went out at number 4 for a reason... because they KNEW that he would do better without the AI label, and it's been proven. Taylor isn't being advertised much. You don't hear about him. We hear about Chris, all over.

You don't need to win AI to be the winner. I don't care that Taylor and Katherine were standing on that stage on the final evening, and that Taylor was announced as the next AI. Chris is the true winner... and they all know it.

I looked it up online and that Chris guy sold a million copies of his. That Hicks cat only sold half that. Snaps. Good for him.

I doubt it was a conscious effort by AI to cut him for his own good. If anything they would want to milk him for all they can.

Anyone in the final 5 or so is a winner on this show. That Clay dude is still popular. That one other broad is in a movie. Doesn't matter who wins.

Did you see the auditions last night? There was this young guy who thought he would be like the next "Chris Daughtry". He came on singing a Fuel song. His voice was so forced and raspy. Simon made him come back in 15 mins to sing an ABBA song to see if his voice was versatile. Dude comes in and starts to sing "Dancing Queen" with a raspy rock voice proving he can only sing one style. I almost fell off the couch! Then he goes.." I can sing Barry Manilow" The judges cracked up! It was funny.....the moral of the story:

There is only ONE Chris Daughtry. Chris is actually pretty good. I'm gonna download his album right now.

Tonight (Wed) they will be in Seattle and from what I've seen in the previews it looks like "CIRCUS FREAK" Night on AI.

The local bully?

I can kick it?? Yee haw dude! ROTFLMAO!

Point is.....I dont care who you slam. I think its funny that you feel I get so bothered when I say something back. The fact remains that if you are going to say something, be prepared for others to say the opposite back to you if they so desire. This isnt a place where you get to say what you want and others dont get that right. Difference between you and me (and there is more than one, thank God) is that I dont run out of the room crying when someone says something I dont agree with, unlike yourself.

Poor sensitive boy...

BTW...many people listen to country music. The fact that I said that doesnt mean I am playing dirty, it means that someone who likes mainly country music wouldnt tend to lean to rock music. The fact that you mistook that for "playing dirty" absolutely makes me laugh! Thats like something an eight year old would say because they just "didnt get it."

Yeah, heard of the Twisted Sister song...but I didnt say it, you did. I try to speak good English...not some Okie from Muskogee English. Maybe you dont like Chris because he doesn't say "aint" every five minutes.

My master plan??? Mmmmwahahahaha

You can't even decipher the real meaning of something. You are too busy reading into things that aren't there...(I think thats your typical move).

Maybe you are just intimidated by someone who has an opinion and is not afraid to speak it.

Oh thats true...I did have a crying smilie in there as well with an added "I aint gonna put up with this." AND then I added the row of laughing smilies. Anything else you want to make up after that is all a lie from you.

BUT an argument it was not! It was a statement. Can you decipher he difference between a statement and an argument? Or does one need to explain it to you in full?

Since we have now resorted to the flamers ward...lets put this in perspective:

You hate it when people disagree with you....you refuse to post in a place when someone disagrees with you (until now, that is)...does KenNJ ring a bell? You refused to go in any thread he was in because he made you cry. You got mad at Delta when she invited Ken into that Beatles thread! She told me all about that one! Ive pissed you off since the SP forum, even though we had an understanding that you chose to not stick with. I came in your pei mei thread and tried to have fun, but you even took that the wrong way and I thought that was your best work in here. It was fun....but you thought my first question was directed at you, and it was just a question that I came up with off the top of my thread because someone was talking about Gilligans Island and I didnt think that show was funny...so hence my question came alive. BUT you read into it that I was talking about you. SO...what did you do? You ran from the thread and never came back. Dude....it was about Gilligans Island!!!

You say that others read into things...and truth be told, its you that reads into things, not others!

Thats being a tad bit too sensitive!

So, feel free to walk through life in the manner you are, and you will be let down on a daily basis.

And you say Im cranky?

I dont let things bother me...especially on here. This is a forum for goodness sake. All sorts of opinions will be here, yours is not the only one...problem is, that you refuse to allow others to disagree...when they do, they are classified by you as a bully...unless they disagree with you and give you a happy face afterword. This is so strange to think that way...but you will be you...a sensitive boy, who needs to face reality.

Whidden, you will a pissed off person all your life if you live by the idea that all should bow to you and agree with you. Fact: That will never happen!

Pretty much everything you said is rot and off base, but one thing I'v learned about you is you believe whatever it is you want to believe, whether it has any fact to it or not. You want to live in your little dream world and think whatever it is about Okie Whid, then whatever floats yer boat.

Bringing up Laci Peterson and Pai Mai threads years after the fact is ludicrous. Trying to drag poor Delta into the fray is transparent. Delta's a class act, or was, before she left. I was mad at her for a day, if that, and resolved it in a p.m.

All water under the bridge a long time ago. Makes me wonder what strange personality traits that you have rumbling around in that head of yours for the others that you fight with on this board that hate your guts.

As for being sensitive, your a crank for saying so. I read things all the time I disagree with. In fact, being a conservative on a liberal board, I'd say most of what I read I disagree with. But, unlike you, I'm not in crybaby arguments with a large number of people on a regular basis.

You having to dig up Ken NJ from years ago is testament to that fact. Very few people "kiss my ass" around here, everyone pretty much says what they think on issues. You are probably mistaking people being halfway polite to each other as ass kissing. Doesn't surprise me one bit that an uber aggressive crank fest like yourself would see it like that.

I am absolutely APPALLED at what happened to this thread. And, I'm VERY glad that I'm leaving, today, for a week, to go be with my family. Thank you, for taking something that Sherry and I were hoping to have as a good thread in the AI forum, and ruin it, with pathetic banter. I don't care WHO the F**K is right, or wrong.... I'm sick of it. Take it to pm, or put the person on ignore. Personally, people DO have the right to express their opinion. I'm waiting to be slammed since I also got the point about Chris, over and over, and thought that it didn't need to be said, after the first time. But, I'm just tired of the childish games that I'm finding between certain people on here. (And that isn't just pointed at the two fighting in this thread... I mean, in general, on INR) People, are we in f'n elementary? Grow up... please. This isn't about staff vs member. This is about ruining something simple, where we're trying to bring NEW people in. And yet, it gets turned into this crap! Thank you... very much!!!!!

You two wanna duke it out? Call Vegas and I'm sure that you could make money by doing this in the ring, and punching each other in the face, repeatedly. Because, even though this isn't physical, that is what this looks like. I don't care WHO started it.... I'm not blaming anyone, and I don't want pm's, or e mails, etc... saying, "It wasn't me... it was him/her!" I DONT CARE! What I do care about is how this is perceived by the new people who come here, because they want to talk about AI. Sherry and I bust our butts to get that forum going, each season, with current, new, and old, members!!!! Please take some consideration into that, and respect the fact that if you want to argue, and say down and dirty things, take it to pm, or start up a "Whidden vs Mystic" thread in the Agree to Disagree forum. Otherwise, move on, hit the f'n "IGNORE" button, and respect INR, and those here, and those that are to come still.

Let me just add to this, really quick. We have ALL been rubbed the wrong way, at some point, here on INR, by someone. We've all had those exchange of posts that "Slam" someone else.... even if nothing came of it. We aren't all going to get along, because, like in real life, these are OUR opinions, and when people disagree about things, it can get heated.... esp if you don't like the other person in the first place. I've had times on here where I've gone WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overboard with another member.... and it resulted in crap, bad feelings, people leaving, etc... WHY? Is it really necessary to take things like this to this point? Are we THAT driven in life that we can't actually CONTROL what we type? It's not like we are speaking, face to face, and can hit the backspace button. When you speak, there isn't an "Enter" button before the rest of the people "hear" what you're saying. On here, we do have that option, and I suggest that it be used. Reread your posts, when they are going to be heated, before hitting that "enter" "post" "go" etc... button. Think about how what you're going to say is going to come across to others... and if it's going to cause a serious problem. Seriously... if it is, be respectful and put the post in the right place... FLAMERS WARD, AGREE TO DISAGREE, or PRIVATE MESSAGE!!! Think, please, about this board, and the work that is being done to actually bring in, and keep, new people. Because some of us do think that way, and are trying to figure out HOW to get INR back to what it was like in it's hay day. It might not ever happen... but, we're trying, so very hard, to make it happen. There really IS a way to talk to people on here, that we disagree with, without SLAMMING someone, to a hateful point. You know, people can say things that might "hurt" but they aren't being said in a malicious way. There is a difference. It's how we feel, and react.
