NEW YORK (AP) -- Barbara Walters is back from vacation -- and she's standing by Rosie O'Donnell in her bitter battle of words with Donald Trump.
Walters, creator of ABC's "The View," said Wednesday on the daytime chat show that she never told Trump she didn't want O'Donnell on the show, as he has claimed. "Nothing could be further from the truth," she said.
"She has brought a new vitality to this show and the ratings prove it," Walters said of O'Donnell, who is on vacation this week. When she returns, Walters said, "We will all welcome her back with open arms."
Walters also took a moment to smooth things over with The Donald, who got all riled up when O'Donnell said on "The View" that he had been "bankrupt so many times."
"ABC has asked me to say this just to clarify things, and I will quote: 'Donald Trump has never filed for personal bankruptcy. Several of his casino companies have filed for business bankruptcies. They are out of bankruptcy now,' " Walters said.
O'Donnell and Trump have been feuding since he announced last month that Miss USA Tara Conner, whose title had been in jeopardy because of underage drinking, would keep her crown. Trump is the owner of the Miss Universe Organization, which includes Miss USA and Miss Teen USA.
The 44-year-old outspoken moderator of "The View," who joined the show in September, said Trump's news conference with Conner had annoyed her "on a multitude of levels" and that the twice-divorced real estate mogul had no right to be "the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America."
Trump fired back, calling O'Donnell a "loser" and a "bully," among other insults, in various media interviews.
He is the host of NBC's "The Apprentice," which begins its new season Sunday.

| Posted by: Lawless | | I watched The View this morning, and I'm so glad that I caught it. I thought that it was GREAT what Barbara said, and I think that she just handed Donald his ass on a platter. He lied, about saying that Barbara said things, and it came back to bite him, didn't it? Do you think that the shock of the slap that Barbara gave him will change that damn comb over? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Don't know if it was ass-platter worthy. Who knows who's trying to save face now. She did cover her wrinkly backside by saying Trump was never bankrupt.

| Posted by: Lawless | | No, it wasn't that she "covered" her butt by saying that:
"ABC has asked me to say this just to clarify things, and I will quote: 'Donald Trump has never filed for personal bankruptcy. Several of his casino companies have filed for business bankruptcies. They are out of bankruptcy now,' " Walters said. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Yes, as co-owner, co-executive producer and co-host of The View, Bobwa Wataws was *asked* (a.k.a. say this so we don't get our asses sued by The Donald) and she summarily covered her bootie by obliging.

| Posted by: Lawless | | I don't think that they could have been sued. And, if Donald did that, I think that Barbara would have turned around and sued him for slandering her, with lies of saying that she'd said this and that. It's all just | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Can't sue for hearsay. Trump could technically sue for slander but I doubt he would win or want to waste his time.

| Posted by: lickety_split | | Isn't it defamation we are talking about here? They are both guilty of that. I tend to believe Barbara is lying about what she said about Rosie to Donald. If not, she's sugar coating everything to save face in light of the Ripa and now Trump feuds. I used to watch The View & now it seems to have turned into the new Rosie O'Donnell Show. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Whether or not it's the new Rosie show... no one can say that she hasn't given the show a huge boost. She's brought up the ratings like you wouldn't believe. Their percentage of viewers climed, drastically, since Rosie became a co-host. So, no matter what Barbara thinks... ratings talk, and money makes her, and ABC happy, all the way to the bank. They don't care about anything else. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Defamation of character is nearly impossible to sue for when the person in question that is being defamed is in fact famous. Take the Larry Flynt/Jerry Falwell incident.
O'Donell was slanderous because she brought up his business dealings.

Did you ever read the Barbara Walters snip on wikipedia?
Everything on there has to get citation. You can't mess with that info like you used to be able to. Wikipedia has become a rock solid place for good info.
I'd bet you anything that if you read the Barbara Walters snip on wiki, the truth would fly right over your head.
For those too lazy..........
Barbaras life was a train wreck from the day she? was born.
Her dad was a lunatic to the max. LUNATIC!
Barbara despises him to this day.
She was born "Barbara Jill" and her? gender is "MALE"!
She was so freaked out as a kid that she refused to pronounce "R"'s because they were gutteral and masculine.
So she developed a lisp to keep a feminine voice.
She had throat surgery to sever deep vocal cords.
She got married to a guy who soon "annulled" the marriage based on deception.
She got remarried and pretended to be pregnant.
She adopted her daughter as soon as she was born.
Her dad went off the deep end.
She had two siblings who died.
Her daughter learned the truth at 14 and went nuts. She went on the road and worked truck stops.
Barbara had to hire a green beret to watch her and placed her in a private school. "She's" confused about her sexual identity or some trash now.
Barbara worked with Harry Reasoner as a co-anchor on the nightly news and he had open hostility towards her. He eventually refused to share a news desk with the crazy lady.
She got divorced yet again and married a gay or bi-sexual theatre owner.
Babwa has been getting teased on TV for decades about her refusal to use "R"'s because it makes her sound like a male.
This is no closely guarded secret in the "loop", but out of courtesy, nobody makes a big deal out of it.
