LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary.

"(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."

Harris stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D."

You know, this came a day after his publicist denied it. So peculiar.

But good for him. I hope people just let it go and see him for what he really is from now on: the dude who starred in Doogie Howser almost 20 years ago.

Sorry, never seen 'How I Met Your Mother'

Oh man, I was so NOT shocked by this. It was a bit obvious... well, to those of us with "Gaydar"

Okay...this one caught me off guard.

I LOVE How I Met Your Mother! He is awesome as Barney. He came out, and now no tabloids can make a buck off it.

Eh, they'll make something else up.

I know! Its the ultimate one up on his part!

The only thing is...how many photographers are going to be following his every move now in order to get the scoop on his private life?

Somehow, I hope that they just leave him alone....but that would be giving the press to much credit because we all know that they won't just let it go.

Tabloids are just scum. They make up everything, and it is sad that people buy and believe that stuff.

Tabloids suck! More famous people need to do things to ruin the tabloids.

Like George Clooney's idea about dating a different person every night, just to piss them off.

Funny how the tabloids reported on that, despite it being an obvious knock at them.

I dig that show too.

Anyone see Harold & Kumar Go To Whitecastle? That wasn't gay.

I didn't think it, but hey, rock on NPH.

I was actually somewhat surprised when I heard this, but everyone else I knew was like "well duh." I always figured Wanda was a girl when she got with Doogie I like NPH. And now that this is out, hopefully no one will dwell on it. Why does it need to be such a huge deal, I mean he is what he is, it shouldn't change how people see him. Although it is gonna be funny to watch Barney hook up with chicks now hahaha. How I met your mother is GREAT and Barney is my favorite character. Good for NPH for punching the tabs right in the face...

Well, why would it be any different when a straight person plays a gay, and "hooks up"? It's no different. It's acting. Unfortunately, there will be people who loved NPH, and his show... but, will stop watching it, because they don't agree with someone being gay. He will be judged by it... but, he shouldn't. He's a human being.

I would like to think this would not change people watching this show. Maybe I am giving too much credit at this point, I dont know...but I'd like to think that people are more accepting (at least the younger generation anyhow)...I mean who cares about the idiot fanatics. These close minded people are really the minority these days.

Years back when Ellen was on, her coming out crushed her sitcom...but look at her now! She's bigger than ever with her talk show!

I would like to think that after all these years, people would not care anymore. One can only hope.

I think one reason why people react strangely is that there are those out there who fantasize about their guy, and when they find out he is gay, that makes it really the impossible dream of ever being with them.

It's weird, though... when Portia DeRossi came out as being gay with Ringo's daughter, I could better dream of being with them.

I thought so as well. Someone told me the other day and they were all no way but I was like yeah I can see it

I never saw it....hell, I still dont see it.

Some gay men are obvious about it...he isnt...at least not to me.

I just never thought about it....but I guess that is really the point. Does it matter enough to really think about someone's sexual preference?

Seems wierd that people would care enough to make so much out of this that they would have to force him to come out (ie journalists). I guess I just dont care enough to think that intensely about it. He seemed fine to come out...but was it necessary for him to do that? I dont think so. I mean this is his life...his personal private life. Okay, I know he is an actor, and they should be ready for this...but he never flaunted himself over the spotlight like some actors we know (gay or not).

Seems to me that by now that being gay should be acceptable and I dont see what the big deal is anymore. Everytime someone comes out, you'd think it was the first time that these journalists heard the word gay.

I'm a lesbian and I STILL dream about Brad Pitt... even though he's straight... and Lucy Lawless. She's straight, but that doesn't stop the obsessive dreams about the hottest woman in my eyes.

You know, it's funny to me, that people are like this. They can still dream about a celeb even if they are gay. I mean, what, they find out a person is gay and it's like... "I can't like them anymore. Nope, they are gay. Now, I will never get to sleep with him, or marry him." Like you ever had a chance when you thought his was straight.

Hey, I agree with that, but there are those wackos out there who think that even if they are 12 shades of hideous they still have a chance if the guy is straight.

Shucks, now my chances with Doogie are shot. I mean, I'm not gay, but I wanted to get drunk with Doogs and see where the night went and let the night go.

Or not at all.

Bung.

Who cares if dude is gay. Still weird to see growns up gay Doogs make out with chick on his new show.

We weren't going to tell you... just yet! We wanted to let you down gently... but, NPH and his "outting" ruined that. Sorry.

Damn NPH! He has ruined it for everyone!! If it werent for him, I would be getting married to Bruce this week and having an affair with Gary Sinise at the same time.

Now as it stands, im gonna have to wait a couple more months.

I hate it when idiots like Neil ruin my chances for some realistic happiness!

Well, if anyone else comes out, you might be waiting even longer.

I don't think it should change how people view the show, or whether or not they watch it at all. It's still the same show.

I dunno, when when I had my suspicions about Jim J. Bullock on Too Close For Comfort I nearly couldn't watch that show. But that loveable Monroe character was just too damn sweet to miss.

Has anyone ever dreamed of being with Doogie? um, ewww. I think I would have rather had been with Vinnie than Doogie and vinnie was NOT attractive. Although Doog did have the doctor money. Hmmm

I don't think Doog felt like he HAD to come out. I think it was more like "oh the press is talking about it? uh no biggie, yeah i'm gay, and proud, who cares?" kinda thing. He didn't want to make a big deal about it and he's proud of what he is so why hide it? It's better than other people who make a huge deal about it, get a spread in magazines and tattoo it on their foreheads for all to see. I do agree that there's no reason to hide it if it's who you are. That doesn't change you.

I am confused as to why some gay people feel the need to walk around labeling themselves constantly. Like back home, you see rainbow flags all around the streets in front of stores that are gay-owned. Why the flags? Does it help in sales? I would have gone in whether there was a flag or not. I don't think it's wrong or anything, I just dont' know what the point is really.

Lawless,
Ask Heck about his friend who used to bartend at his bar... she is a MIRROR IMAGE of your dream girl. I swear, it's lucy lawless in the flesh. She looks so much like her it's creepy.

'Tis true. People call her Xena. I don't think Lucy Lawless is that tall, either. IMDB has her listed as 5'10". The bartendar chick is taller. And, um, there is also a difference in the... uh, chestal area.

Seriously, girl could be her taller twin sister.

I'm just saying...

I don't think she was Xena. Maybe she was tired of everyone calling her that. Dunno. But yeah, she could go to conventions and stuff.
