| Seems to me that when ol' Dubya and Tony Blair and even our little poppinjay of a boot-licking sycophant Prime Minister (his name's John Howard the less said about him the better don't start me) rap on about the War on Terror and "staying the course" and how they're gonna "stay til the job's done" and not "cut and run", etc, that they're throwing out five-second soundbites for the television editors to get hold of and mould into stories that fit into their half-hour news segments.
Their slogans are emotive rhetoric, as they're of course designed to be, but would indicate they're not giving themselves a way out. They're too ... what ... stringent. Stay the course. Why would you do that if you're on the wrong side of the road, or heading over a cliff? Stoopid.
So - I thought I'd get some suggestions from the forum 'ere about re-branding the war in Iraq, to make "Getting the hell out of the Iraqis country" sound more palatable to the tough guys. To be more PC, if you will.
So - I would suggest that:
Cut and run - be replaced with - Operation Freedom Victory De-Mobilisation.
Stay the Course - be replaced with - Mission Accomplished!
And ...
War on Terrorism - be replaced with - You can't have a War on an "ism", you have war on people, and if you're doing that in Iraq where Al Queda wasn't and where there were no nuclear or biological weapons in the first place, and you're spending a lot of resources killing people, most of whom didn't want to hurt you in the first place but who've now lost their family and thinking the insurgent life doesn't sound so bad these stupid Yanks want my country's oil f*ck them, etc, so why don't we have an international police force that co-operates with other police forces and y'know, does a bit of investigation and police detective work and arrest these maniacs, and use all the money going into securing Iraq's oilfields to finding and eradicating Al Queda and Osama and all th mad clowns who would put sarin gas in their shoes and board planes, these fuggers are the enemy, Saddam was a criminal and no-one's afraid to see him facing up to his crimes but why not arrest him for war crimes like they did Milosevic rather than invade his entire country and killing tens of thousands of innocents who did nothing wrong, kiddies and mums and dads, turning their relatives into vengeful wannabe shoe-bombers. etc.
is what i wonder. | |
