Moloch is a character from the Mortal Kombat fighting game series.
About Moloch
The three-eyed Moloch is a massive, lumbering Oni who had originally come from the Netherrealm and made his debut in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. He is a non-playable character (excluding third-party devices) carrying a massive orb and chain with it. He has typical miniboss abilities such as great strength, devastating moves and a few weak spots to exploit for the typically more nimble but weaker opponent. Moloch would be the sub-boss before both Shang Tsung and Quan Chi.
Storyline
Moloch slamming Scorpion into the ground in Mortal Kombat: Deadly AllianceMoloch is the only known ally of his Oni counterpart, Drahmin. Unlike Drahmin however, distorted and consumed by rage as he may be, Moloch has most likely always been a demon from the Netherrealm. After being accidentally set free by Quan Chi in the events leading up to the Deadly Alliance game, they attacked the cyborg Cyrax but were forced to flee from his bombs. Eventually, they took refuge in a forest and fed on those who wandered too close too its borders. Li Mei came too close to the forest, but escaped through the trees. After they were enlisted by Shang Tsung and held in the basement of his palace as an insurance policy, should Quan Chi turn on him. Eventually, Moloch and Drahmin were set free, but instead of confronting Quan Chi, they ironically protected him by defeating Scorpion and hurling him into the soulnado. Moloch's whereabouts since then are unknown, but he will return as a playable character in the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
A recent picture, the Mortal Kombat: Armageddon pictorial debut, of Moloch had shown him to be a bit smaller or rather less bulky than he was in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Also, it is worth noting that he was not carrying his trademark Mystical Orb (aka Ball and Chain) despite the chain still being wrapped around his arm, though it is possible that it is a weapon style for him now rather than a permanent fixture to his character model.
Memorable moves
Suction Breath: Moloch sucks in the Opponent (MKDA, MKA)
Ground Bash: Moloch smashes his chain ball down to the ground and shakes it. (MKDA, MKA)
Super Ball: Moloch shoots a projectile ball to his opponent. (MKA)
Super Charge: Moloch charges at the opponent. (MKA)
Furious Howl: Moloch taunts his opponents and loses life. This is said to make him stronger for a short period of time. (MKA)
Furious Oni: Moloch howls and drains his life. This is said to make him stronger for a short period of time. (MKA)
Special abilities
Moloch is an oni, naturally giving him brute strength and utter ferocity, as well as immense size. He can, however, use his lungs to inhale, causing a vortex of wind to pull his opponent into him. Moloch can aslo chuck his large ball-chain at his opponent, a move which proves fatal more often than not.
Trivia
Concept art from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance of Moloch's HeraldConcept art for Deadly Alliance depicted Moloch as originally having an owl who would fetch his orb from the Netherealm. Moloch would appear where the owl dropped the orb.
Moloch makes a brief cameo in Deception's Konquest mode - he is seen speaking with Drahmin, saying they should feed on the remains of the loser of the nearby battle between Quan Chi and Scorpion. This is most likely how Quan Chi met the two oni.
Moloch has no fatality in Deadly Alliance. | |
