'war is too serious a matter to entrust to military men' |

By calling for a pull-out from Iraq, General Sir Richard Dannatt has reversed the view of the French wartime leader, Georges Clemenceau, that 'war is too serious a matter to entrust to military men'. In Dannatt's view, it is too vital to be left to the sofa warriors of Downing Street. His men have had enough, and he has said so.

So who's right, the "sofa warriors of Downing Street" or the head of the British army?
If Richard Dannat is saying the British occupying forces are exacerbating the violence in Iraq then Blair must be lying about Iraq.
So who's telling the truth the military man or the politician? And why?

Even President Bush noted that in a press conference he gave last week, when talking about the information being given him by his commanding general in Iraq.
As to who is telling the truth, neither you or I can say with any certainty. | | Reply To this Message

Dannat is getting daily feedback from his generals Tony Blair is getting it weekly from advisors and I think Blair hears what he wants to hear ( he's been deaf since the Iraqi elections apparently). Blair did say he agreed with Dannat but I think he had to, the soldires agreed with Dannat, Labour backbenchers agreed with Dannat, the public who trust the military more thah the governemnt agree with Dannat so what choice did Blair have? | | Reply To this Message

Blair had no choice but to agree with Dannat. But I doubt it will have any effect on our policy in Iraq, which is really US policy, or - we'll leave when the US leave. So Blair's aggreement with Dannat means practically nothing.
