Well the weather where I live is mainly cool and dry in the summer your average summer temperature is between 15 - 21 degrees centigrade. You get the worst of the rain in August but there is this misconception that it is always raining here actually Rome gets more rain than we do. Up North in Aberdeen it's normally always cold but that's mainly because of the wind you get coming in from the North sea and down from Norway. As for the winter it is freezing don't always get snow just really cold however up North they get bad winters deeps snow and some places shut down because it is to dangerous to go out, it's not uncommon for kids in Aberdeen and Inverness to miss about 2 weeks school in the winter months.
As for the soccer team I support well I support Glasgow Rangers who are the most successful soccer team in the world.

We don't always walk about in Kilts you mainly see Kilts at events like family weddings also at the Rugby, soccer ( I wore mine on Staurday) and on Hogmany ( new years eve) so it's mainly special event's the only bad thing about wearing your kilt on New years is that things start to get cold.
As for the kilt blowing up nah it's to heavy to be blown up ,we just lift em up and flash people a -la - Braveheart.

Well Glamis castle is pretty good it's where the queen mother grew up. Apparently the Devil was at glamis and taunted the earl to gamble on a Sunday which resulted in him being cursed to gamble till doomsday and they say you can still him here him gambling, there is unusual sounds of builders when no work is being done on the castle, a little boy and of course no self respecting castle would be without a green lady would it. Glamis also has a terrible curse that all the men of the family are told on their 21st birthday I think at least 1 ma has killed himself on hearing the curse.
Culzean Castle has a few ghosts to main one is a piper that had his hands chopped off so he could not play the pipes to alert his master that the castle had been invaded apparently you can still hear pipes playing on misty nights.

As a general rule we tend to get on well with the Irish obviously things like the immigartion problems of hundred of years ago caused problems but nowdays we tend to get on I think it's because we have the same type of attitude we want or like the idea of independence, we like a good drink and a good fight ( not always in that order) and we are fiercly patriotic. you will always get pockets of people in Scotland that don't like the Irish and vice versa but overall we quite like the Irish.
I played Golf once and it was a bad mistake maybe I should play drunk it might improve my game.

Nobody is really sure some say it is a curse that has to do with a family member stealing an ancient Chalice form another castle. However some have said it has something to do with something or somebody locked in a hidden room. We know the room exists because many years ago the earl of the castle had a party he was called away on urgent business and while he was gone his guests on hearing the story of a hidden room and a curse decided to look for it by placing towels out of windows, once they had done that they went outside and found every window had a towel bar one, unfortunatly the earl came back and was so incensed when somebody mentioned the curse he threw them all out of the castle and never spoke to any of them again.

A lot of people eat Haggis it's fairly popular I am not a big fan but I have it on Burns night but that's it.
The highlands is just an area in Scotland it starts from Fort Willim and goes all the way up to Thurso. Anything below Fort William is the Lowlands. Scotland breaks into three parts Highlands, Midlands and of course the Islands.
There are obvioulsy a lot of mountains in the highlands but the biggest ones are the Munros which have to be a minimum of 3000 feet there are 284 with Ben Nevis bweing the biggest and 4406 meters.

Loch Lomond is the biggest it covers 27.5 miles while Loch Ness cover 21.8 miles and we still can't find that damn monster.

I think the majority favour Rober the Bruce, Rob Roy is a big hero in the Trossachs area but natiionally he is kind of overlooked.

I suppose I should say Portsmouth  but I don't really have a favourite English team.
How do you feel about Bonny Prince Charlie?
The guy was a t**t plain and simple. you have this 5 foot gay Italian coming to Scotland get's the clan chiefs to come with him to London to overthrow the crown, they get within twenty miles of London with the government on thier way to France looking for exile the country was his for the taking and he has second thoughts and turns back what the hell is that about. And then and this is what pisses me off about the guy he tells these clan chiefs that fighting gurrelia style in the mountains is not gentlemanly and makes them march onto Culloden moor where they get slaughtred, meanwhile he dresses in drag and heads back home via Skye and some people think he is a hero I can't see it myself.
Who, if any, is you favorite living member of the Royal family? (not the TV programme with Ricky Tomlinson)
I don't really have a favourite.
Who is the most famous living Scot?
That obviously depend on who you ask and in what field you are looking at but I am going for Sir James Black who is not well knoen but he has won the nobel prize for medicine and is the only Scot to receive the Order of Merit from the Queen. I won't get into what he did but you don't recive these two awards for small things.
And what is Scotland most famous man-made landmark? |
Again there are a lot of choices Ediunburgh or Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument but I would say the Forth Rail Bridge it has to be seen to be belived it is an enginerring masterpiece if you come to Scotland you should go to South Queens ferry to see it.

I would probably disagree with that. Hearts are turning into genuine title contenders and have already beaten Celtic this season, Hibs are also looking good last season they beat Rangers 3 - 0 on no less than three occasions and have beaten us 2 -1 this season where we were totally outplayed if I am being honest. Overall I have noticed a change, there were times when Rangers would only have to show up at places like Dunfermline score 4 -0 goals and go home but now it's all change all the games are a real challenge and it is not so much that the Old Firm have got worse it is just that the other clubs have decided to ditch expensive foreigners and have went toward using young Scots who understand what it means to play for the jersey it is also a route which Rangers are following, leaving Hearts and Celtic as the only clubs that still spend millions on expensive foreigners.

Hearts are one mainly because Romanov ( Hearts owner) is an enemy of football and a nutcase to boot we are also not big fans of Man U and Liverpool ( they have strong ties to Celtic)

See I don't know my dad says John Grieg but I am to young to have ever seen him play. I would say either Brian Laudrup who was the most technically gifted player I have seen in a Rangers top or Ally McCoist because he was a great goalscorer and a great Charchter.
What was the best result Scotland ever got in a competitive international?
I honestly think it was last week when we beat France

Well we are joint top with France we both have 9 points from 12 as for our biggest rival well I think it is Italy and Ukraine. Frnace will win the group and it is between the 3 of us to get 2nd

Hibs will probably get as good a manager I mean they have a young team on long term deals, they are in a sound financial position and they will soon have thier training complex finished so it's a fairly good situation to be walking into. Mowbary did do a lot for Scottish youth but I think those players would have come through anyway, the board want a Scottish manager and I think that wil maybe put the yoinger lads at ease reagrding thier future.

Well I don't know an awful lot about it but I can tell you a few things. It is normally called Maclellans castle it was built in 1581 by Sir Thomas Maclellan who was the provist ( mayor) of Kirkcudbright sadly by 1700 Sir Thomas ran in to difficulty and the castle's top floors were never finished and by 1912 it was bought by the state and is a tourist attraction.
Sorry that's all I know but I will see if I can find out more and let you know. I will say one thing Kirkcudbright is a beautiful part of the country.

Dress Tartans are more commonly worn by women they tend to be worn with a lot of white colours and are generally brighter than the everyday or modern tartans these are just tartans that have been accepted as a standard tartan for that clan. Hunting Tartans are tartans that are made in earth tones so you could blend in while hunting .

Don't know if you know this but the clan motto is Think On. Just thought I would tell you .

Well we have lots of traditional Scottish foods knocking about for example Mince and Tatties ( potatoes), Scottish Salmon, Aberdeen Angus beef has to be tasted at least once in your life,
Arbroath Smokies is a fish that is smokes obvioulsy, Scottish haddock is amazing, Forfar Bridies are ok, Buttiries are a salty roll but not to bad, Tablet is kind of like fudge but 100 times sweeter oh and Stovies my dad makes the best stovies in the world, porridge is popular for breakfast, every boy had porridge because you would grow up to be big and strong and we also invented the deep fried Mars bar which i hve seen smothred in Tomato sauce before you eat it.

Intrestingly there is a statue to Wellington in Edinburgh

Thats a rather difficult one because my heart says yes but my head says I should look again at the math and the facts and arguemnts for and against. got some thinking to do before March but at the moment I would say I am 60% for a split as long as we have friendlt ties much like the UK has with countries like the US

It actaully could be Doanald 1st you kind of have to work out who ruled what but as Mcalpine was the first recorded king I go with him.

I dont know the Russell Tartan but I do know that the Russell Clan came from Aberdeenshire, that the extent of my knowledge of my family history. Its one of the reasons I am jelous of the Scot, there is such a wealth of family history in Scotland. | | Reply To this Message

There have been a few stories about how the name came about but the most accepted one goes back to the first derby, aprently even back then the press wanted fireworks but they were left dissapointed so much so that on reporter said " the players acted like they were firm old friends" and the name came about because of that.

AS far as I know there definitley was a King Macbeth he ruled from 1040 to 1057 and is buried with the other kings and queens of Scotland on the Island of Iona. As for the other aspects well I have not seen the play fro many years so I am struggling to rememeber but I do know that Shakespear drew the historical refrences from a book ( chronicles of England, Scotland and Wales) and I know that the book has been questioned over bias to certain Family lines especially MacBeths family line.

Scotland has a great relationship with the French there is the Auld Alliance with France ( which the French will tell you never exsisted) but we traded with France and got on well with France you tend to find in Scotland a lot of towns are twinned with French towns and some Scottish slang words are derived from French words. Ask a Scottish person what they think of France and they talk about as if it's an old friend, I klnow that when we went to France in 98 the locals seemed to like being with and aropund us more than other nations ( or maybe I am being sentimentel) but most of us like France.
Waht parts of Scotland should I aviod if I ever get round to visiting?
Well I would avoid Castlemilk in Glasgow it probably the toughest estate in Europe but you don't get many tourist going by. Genereally though it's not a dangerous place as for boring places well Dundee basically go see Discovery and leave cos there is nothing else there.
And what parts of Scotland would you recomend me visiting? |
Well I would recomend Edinburgh definitley IO know I live here and I am bias but it's one of the most unique cities in the world there is the castle, the old town, the newtown, the parliemnt, the palace, the undergound city, Greyfriars Bobby ( well the monument and the grave the dog is long dead obviously) the haunted Childrens mueseum V sad place. and thst not even half of it.
Striling is good and very historical there is the castle and the Wallace monument they view from which is breathtaking,
Loch Lomond national park is nice
and loch Ness might see a famous resident
Also Inverness is beatuiful and if you have a few days Island hopping is always fun esp Iona and the Standing stones.
