There's really not much discussion about it, but one thing I want to say is, with only a few exceptions, British Comedy is absolutely amazing. Of course the seasons of any show doesn't last as long as they do in America, and certainly America has many more great shows than the English... but they have a different edge. (for the record, Australia comedy sucked balls... with exception to the D generation and a couple of others)

I'm gonna mention some of my favorite shows, or simply shows I like okay (in alphabetical order).

'Allo 'Allo
Okay, it relied heavily on catch phrases, but the different situations the French Resistance got into, and Rene with his mistresses, it was all just too funny. "You stupid woman!!" "Listen very closely, I shall say this only vwance". I don't know, it just worked.

The Benny Hill Show
The king of comedy... need I say more? He puts the freaking three stooges to shame.

The Black Adder
Rowan Atkinson is hilarious in this program that ran 4 seasons. Each season was set in a different time period and usually ended with the demise of all principal characters. Witty and utterly enthrawling comedy.

Carry On Laughing
Not many people are fans of the carry on movies and the show, but they're just too naughty not to like

Drop The Dead Donkey
Centered around a news room, this show was just pure comedy, but also kind of topical which is good at the time of broadcast... pretty bad for lasting power.

Extras
Classic show from the creator of The Office. Each episode features a big name star who is doing something that either seems out of character, or so far in character that it's utterly hilarious.

Father Ted
A trio of chaotic priests run amock on a remote island.

Fawlty Towers
John Cleese is absolutely brilliant in this show. Basil Fawlty, the rudest bastard who could possibly walk the earth, owns and operates a hotel with his gossipy wife. Along for the ride is Manuel, the lame duck waiter, and Polly, a waitress.

The Goodies
The Goodies do things for people, with the help of their magic computer dealy. Great slap stick kind of deal, with some awesome sexually orientated jokes.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Brilliant 6-part miniseries based on Douglas Adams' book. You have Arthur Dent, the last surviving human, Ford Prefect, Arthur's best friend and an alien, Marvin, the depressed robot, and Zaphod, the two headed idiot. The whole thing is based on fact, yet completely not at the same time.

Man About The House
Any one who's seen three's company should know why this program is comedy at its best...

Monty Python's Flying Circus
A sketch show to end all sketch shows. The Spanish Inquisition, The Hungarian Phrasebook, the Parrot shop, and hundreds of other classic sketches make this one of the funniest programs of all time. And now for something completely different...

Mr Bean
Rowan Atkinson rarely talks as Mr Bean, but the physical comedy is what he's best at. There isn't a single episode of this show that won't send you into fits of laughters at some point.

The Office
Only a few years old and already an undeniable classic.

Only Fools and Horses
A hit and miss show featuring a no-hoper members of cockney talking family. Pretty funny, for the most part.

Red Dwarf
The only sci-fi comedy that can stand up against Hitchiker's guide to the Galaxy. Rimmer is such a tool.

But while I'm on the subject, has anyone caught the show Little Britain? What a freakin' skinker... couldn't be any more unfunny...

No, but I'll be sure to check it out.

Actually, I think a lot of British sitcoms suck more than the American ones. But there are a few that are just unbelievably awesome.
