West Virginia airport terminal evacuated

Thursday, August 17, 2006; Posted: 3:50 p.m. EDT (19:50 GMT)

CEREDO, West Virginia (AP) -- A West Virginia airport terminal was evacuated Thursday after a female passenger's water bottle twice tested positive for explosives, a Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman said.

"The bomb squad is on site and the woman is being interviewed by the FBI," Amy von Walter said.

Security checkpoint screeners got a positive test on a machine that uses swabs to find traces of explosives, von Walter said. A bomb-sniffing dog also reacted to the water bottle.

A screener noticed the bottle in a woman's carryon bag as she prepared to board a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina, said Tri-State Airport authority President Jim Booton.

Commercial airline service was temporarily suspended, and about 100 passengers and airport employees were ordered to leave the terminal, Booton said.

At least one flight was diverted to Charleston's Yeager Airport, about 60 miles away.

I found this info on CNN

quote:
Salyers said he was told the woman was a 28-year-old of Pakistani descent who had moved to Huntington from Jackson, Michigan. He did not know how long she had lived in Huntington.

That article also starts out "turns out there was no explosives"... so, well

glad they're keeping the public in a needless panic, though.

So, one article, which I posted, to start off the thread... I got from cnn.com... states that the bottle tested POSITIVE for explosives.... TWICE! Then, this other article said that it didn't. You know what? I'm tired of our gov't stirring up so much panic in people. THEY are instilling fear in the hearts of America.
