Will an assault on Iran save Bush's presidency? |

What comes next? That is obvious.
With our War Party discredited by the failed policies it cheered on in Lebanon and Iraq, there will come a clamor that Bush must "go to the source" of all our difficultly – Iran. Only thus can the War Party redeem itself for having pushed us and Israel into two unnecessary and ruinous wars. And the drumbeat for war on Iran has already begun. |
Bush's policy has failed in Iraq, Israel/US policy in Lebanon has failed. So, should the US now attempt to redeem it's failed policies by persuing their ambition to attack Iran?
The clamour from the war-hawks in Washington is to do just that.

And the drumbeat for war on Iran has already begun.
"(T)he dangers continue to mount abroad," wails the Weekly Standard in its lead editorial. "How Bush deals with Ahmadinejad's terror-supporting and nuclear-weapons pursuing Iran will be the test" of his administration. Yes, the supreme test.
Bush is on notice from the neocons and War Party that have all but destroyed his presidency: Either you take down Iran, Mr. Bush, or you are a failed president.

I'm with you on that, Sherry. And even then, I'm not sure that there really is ANYTHING that can save Bush. But, I could care less.... can't stand the man, or the job he's been doing.

A lot of people think we should attack Iran before they get nukes and it will be too late. I think the big surprise will be that Iran makes the next big move, not Bush.
The world misreads Iran by concluding that Iran won't become aggressive toward nuclear powers until they have nukes themselves. Iran is anticipating a version of Armageddon close at hand that will bring fulfillment to their cause.
When Iran heads into the final battle convinced that God is on their side, there will be little need to rationally weigh the worldly odds of winning or losing. The battle itself becomes the means to their purpose. So they need not look beyond the battle. They only need to start it.
They can leave it to others to bring the nukes.

| Posted by: lodgebo | | I can't see how thousands of dead US troops, meltdown in the middle east, rising oil prices, the US going into billions in debt and China making moves to become the no1 superpower while the US is at war can be good for Bush.
But anyone enough about what is happening now an onto Iran. attacking Iran would be a logistical nightmare and would put the US army in a real battle not the Taliban and a bunch of warlords/drug dealers, not a third rate Iraqi army that only had one good unit ( that the UK virtually eliminated) and not a bunch of terrorists. What Iran has is a well trained, well armed and well lead legit army. The fact that Iran has a good air force is a problem the US need to consider as well. So the US needs to take all that into account as well as the current problems before Bush gets all rowdy. They also need to keep Israel on a leash in any potential war with Iran. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: EUCLID | | There is no chance Bush will attack Iran. Bush, Rice, and the U.N. can't even live up to their commitment to disarm Hezbollah.
I doubt Bush will attack Iran even when Iran attacks Israel. | | Reply To this Message
