One year until Order of the Phoenix |
| Posted by: Lawless | | One year from today, July 13th, fans across the United States and United Kingdom will be cued up and dressed in their Potter robes in anticipation of the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix!
The next 365 days will be, without a doubt, one of the busiest times for the Potter fandom. Between the pending seventh book and the fifth film, news will run rampant across the globe. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Man, HP fans will have a breakdown if that's the case. Total overload.
I want to read this book to see who eats it.

| Posted by: HECK! | | Yeah right, HP is worth too much money to just let go. She'll write more HP books of some sort or let other author's take a try at it. Guaranteed.

| Posted by: HECK! | | Who said anything about giving up her rights???
Do you know how many authors there are that write Star Wars novels? They don't own the rights. The publishing firm pays Lucasfilm to use (not own) the Star Wars name, characters, etc. and Lucas gets a large paycheck. Of course Lucas or his people have to approve each story.
Now, don't tell me Rowling wouldn't go down a similar path... judging by all the merchandise, she obviously isn't shy on cashing in on her creation.

I just know that she's said that she wants NO ONE to add to her world of Harry Potter. That's all I'm saying.
There is a ton of fan fiction (HP) all of the internet... and a lot of it is great.

| Posted by: HECK! | | I see, so no other authors expanding on her universe then. Well, in a way by letting directors put her creation on the big screen she has already let some creative license go. I admire her decision as a writer. But the fans would eat up some offshoot HP stories. After a few years, who knows, she may want a 8th house made of gold and will decide to rent out the HP name to a few authors.
Fan fic is so rampant, it's hard to comprehend it all.

| Posted by: Lawless | | True... but, that woman has enough money, that her great grandchild x 50, will never have to work a day in their lives.
There are two HP fanfics that I've read that I would LOVE to see be published. They are amazingly great. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Yeah, I was kinda kidding about the money. Even though I am not the biggest HP fan, a part of me wants to see other authors continue the story. The main reason being that the HP series has helped millions of children rediscover books in an era of video games and Internet. That is huge. The writer in me respects her decision exponentially.

| Posted by: Lawless | | Yeah... HP has really made people WANT to read, and learn to open their minds to imagine all sorts of things. There are a lot of other teen fiction books out there, like that. I have several. They are for more than teens, actually.
We shall see what happens. I don't want HP to end. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | You know if I were JKR I would continue stories about Hogwarts because so many kids have gotten into reading because of her books. I would go back and tell the story about Albus Dumbledore's life. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | I'd like to see it ended with the next book, but be able to read other books in the same "Harry Potter" universe. With, perhaps, only a few familiar characters thrown in from here and there. I doubt she'll continue right away after these books are finished, though. Maybe in 20 years.
And yay! OotP movie. Woo hoo! | | Reply To this Message
