Kevin Spacey is Lex Luthor

http://www.popculturejunkies.com/mt/archives/0203BritEsq3-thumb.jpg

It's confirmed that Lex Luthor will be played by Kevin Spacey in the upcoming Superman Returns. It's really hard for me to picture anybody but Michael Rosenbaum playing Lex Luthor (Smallville). But I guess the fact that Kevin is already balding makes it all the much easier to make his shaved-head-to-be that much more believable.

Oh cool, I thought they gave up on this when they started with the new Batman movie, but cool. I feel sorry for whoever plays Superman though good luck, whoever you may be...

Who's Michael Rosenbaum?

I never watched Smallville.

Then how could it be hard to imagine anyone besides him playing Lex Luthor; how old's the person who wrote it, 10?

....thinking back, I don't think I ever saw the fourth one. I vaguely remember the third one, which is with Richard Pryor, right? (good casting on that one )

Michael Rosenbaum is too young to play in a movie called "Superman RETURNS". Rosenbaum plays a young Lex Luthor (mid-to-late 20's, maybe?), who is actually a good friend of Clark Kent during his formative years in Smallville, before becoming Superman (and while dealing with a stupid fear of heights...). The Lex in this movie needs to be older.

Spacey is a great choice, I think.

I wonder if this movie will make the career of the new superman? It did for Reeves, didn't it? Gabo is right though... Good luck to whoever has the part... History hasn't been too kind to those who jump into the costume...

I remember one with the three dudes in black. Then I remember another one with this dude from the sun. He was nuclear or something and they fly to China and even the moon

I think the nuclear guy was in number IV, and the 3 people with black suits was from number 2.

Oh, I think I know Smallville. I saw an episode of it once, with Clark Kent and Lex Luthor meeting some person who was a psychic, and they saw Lex Luthors future and died... or maybe Clark Kent's, I forget. Anyways, they saw Superman on earth, long after everyone else died. It was actually quite interesting...

Yeah, the show has it's good moments, but overall, I've grown accustomed to Kristin Kreuk's pretty face and heart-stopping eyes, so I don't watch the show as much as I used to...

Wasn't there one with balloons and stuff? Lex Luther escapes from prison when someone picks him up with a balloon. Then they go to some cave and there was this crazy scientist with a machine or something and it blows up. Yep, I sure remember a whole lot, huh?

Luthor escapes from prison in a balloon in #2. That's when Superman fights General Zodd right after giving up his powers for Lois.

The crazy scientist was #3, with Richard Pryor. Luthor wasn't in that one.

I think it was in a diner. That's what I remember, anyways. Kinda like those old 50's style street-side diners; that's what's ringing a bell for me.

Superman down to Earth in Tamworth

http://images.news.com.au/thedailytelegraph/2574092_supermannewweb.jpg
Big break... Actor Brandon Routh has been cast as Superman in the big-budget film being filmed in NSW

http://images.news.com.au/thedailytelegraph/2574090_houseweb.jpg
A FARM outside Tamworth will serve as the Kents' home in the latest Superman movie. The property, 45km from Tamworth, will become the Kansas family home where young Clark Kent grows up before taking on his Superman identity.

"It's early days yet, but I can say a property in that area is being transformed into the Kent farm for the film," a Warner Bros spokesman said. "Production isn't due to start on the film for another two months, but the sets have already been built and are awaiting to be erected on the site. We chose the Breeza Plains area because of its picturesque location."

Production on the film will be based out of Sydney's Fox Studios, with a number of locations around NSW being used.

Little-known US actor Brandon Routh will don the cloak of the "man of steel" in the latest Hollywood revival of Superman. The 25-year-old was signed to star in the reincarnation of the superhero, to hit screens in 2006, after an exhaustive search for an actor to fill the role made famous by the late Christopher Reeve.

The Warner Bros movie will be directed by Bryan Singer, who also made the hit comicbook hero X-Men movies.

Sent from the planet Krypton, the superboy is raised in Kansas by Martha and Jonathan Kent who name the boy Clark, taking Martha's maiden name. Clark grows up and moves to the city of Metropolis, where he becomes a reporter and falls in love with colleague Lois Lane.

Superman Returns will pick up where the first two films left off, with Superman returning to Earth after having been missing for six years.

Reeve, who became an international star with the huge success of the movie, reprised his high-flying role in two hit sequels, Superman II in 1980 and Superman III in 1983.

Is this a typo? Wasn't there 3 or 4 films in total? Or are they planning on placing a film meant to be in the midst of the storyline of the older flicks?

No typo, it looks like they're forgetting about the 3rd and 4th movies. I wish I freakin' could.

He doesn't look like the superman type. Reeves did a sweet job in the first one. It is going to be hard to top him.

in a way he looks like the clark from Smallvill ... the jaw and he kind of looks like him ... but i recon he looks more like the bad guy

I think that Reeve had a good Superman "look", but I always found his portrayal of Superman to lean more towards Superman's compassion, and less towards his angry side. The more recent cartoons, like Justice League, show Superman jumping into battle without even determining what the "villian" is up to... Boy, DC and Warner Brothers really like to show some AGGRESSION coming from their heroes nowadays....

Yeah. Now-a-days you shoot first and ask questions later.

And why does the new superman look eerily like christopher reeve when he played it originally. well, a little anyway.

I really don't see a resemblence. Maybe it's the hair, too. Reeve did own the role, maybe it's hard no to see a little bit in the new guy.

I see a bit of CR in this guy too. Especially when he's dressed as CK. Why the hell is James Marsden in this? Cyclops is now in DC comics? I think he was a bad choice for Cyclops anyways... Hope he gets killed early in the movie...

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to move it to the new Superman forum, I found it from a link from another thread. But when I try to back track, the thread disapears from the movie section. So I will make this post see if it shows back up so I can move it.

Freaky how this thread has "stealth" technology.
