Nigel Lythgoe interview on the top three is up. My recap of his comments

On Clive's choices

Liked Elliott's rendition, but is not a fan of the song.

Kat went a bit overboard, but she pulled it off

Taylor- great song, good for his voice. Was sitting next to Rod Stewart, was wataching on tv with Rod, Rod applauded & said "you did great"

I missed Elliott's comments, but caught that the song stayed in the same tone and vibe too much.

Kat's over the rainbow "one of the Idol moments".
Liked how she sat on the stage like Judy Garland, liked the way she sang the verse of it. A "beautiful moment".

Taylor- You are so Beautiful, he thought DITD was better, didn't work for him, had an angry face, but showed what a great voice he had.

Elliott's last song- great voice, needed to pick a song that is known.

Kat- "she had a right to steal the evening after over the rainbow, and she threw it away with this song."

Tay- perfect song, felt like a blues bro presentation to him, but perfect for him. Showed him off well.

Elliott was the best singer of the night- per Nigel
Suggests that probably Taylor will be there for the final night.

Over 50 Million calls last night. A record for a non- final.

This evening show- 3 songs from the Album will be heard, and then someone will go home.

I will have to disagree with the above.

The thing about Elliot is that he just isn't getting better. He isn't growing. It's like watching one of those animatronic robots and Chuck-e-cheese. He was a little bit better with the vibrato but still had too much.

Katharine I will have to somewhat agree, Over the Rainbow was fantastic the others were okay.

Taylor I'm a big fan he IS the next American Idol. (sorry Bruce)

I don't think any of them did well with Clive's songs, probably not the right picks for these guys unless they were able to work more on the songs.

The judges picked well which.

Taylor back home. On the radio. Going to the TV station and doing the weather forecast. Lots of people wanting to hug him and shake his hand. Fans going wild. 'Soul Patrol rides on' is a quote from Taylor. Big crowds - well that's no surprise is it. A parade in his honour. Cheer leaders chanting 'soul patrol'. Key to the city of Birmingham.

Big limo. Taylor looks tired. Jet lag maybe. Or just overwhelmed by the amount of stuff he has to do and places to go. Singing at a shopping mall. Still dancing, even if he is tired.

Taylor chatting with Ryan. Ryan is a tiny guy isn't he?

And Taylor is going to sing again.

Going to show Kat's home visit. Home to Hollyood. Just over the hill.

Sherman Oaks, CA. She went to Good Day LA. On Fox 11 Good Day LA. Then to the radio station. KROQ.

Not quite the home town style of Taylor's clip.

Then a helicopter ride to do traffic report. Hollywood sign. Notre Dame High School welcomes her back. Loud pep rally there. 12 year old with a sign 'Will You Marry Me?'

On the AI boards, the Etrain is pretty solid behind Taylor. Most of the E fans had Taylor as their #2. I think they will vote for Taylor and do it because they like Taylor and because they want Kat gone.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Well, that's just those that post. We won't truly know. I mean, they said that 50 million votes came in, and they were split about equally. So, who knows. I mean, 17 million people, about that, who voted for Elliott, aren't all going to vote for Tay. But, I bet a lot will. Then again, a lot will be like other fans... where you just stop voting when it's someone that you don't care about.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

The thing is that a lot of fans really hate Kat. They will vote for Taylor to make sure she is not the idol.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Yeah, but there are a lot of people out there that don't like Taylor as well. So, it could be a close call, Sherry. Who knows.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

I think it will be close, and unless the producers use their option of overriding the votes and chosing the idol, check out the small print on the screen at the end of the show, then Taylor will be the Idol.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

What small print? What does it say?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

It has been there since the first shows. It says that the producers have the right to override the final vote if they do not agree with it. It is small print, but if there is someone who they really don't want to win, they can pick the idol.

I will work on trying to find the exact wording. I read it the first time in season two just before the last show. I was shocked. Either way, I get to see Taylor in the final. I can't stand Kat, and I think that E should have been there, but Taylor will do just fine.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Well, well, well... I bet ANYTHING that is why Ruben won in season two. They thought that they could market him better, and make better sales. Boy, weren't they ever WRONG!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Though, do they have to announce that they are overriding it, or can they just do it, and annouce the "winner" and let people THINK that the person won, fair and square?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

I also think that is how Ruben won. They do not have to announce it. It is a sly thing in the small print.

Still, Taylor will be heard even if McCheesy wins. He will do just fine.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

I didn't even know that they did this! It's deceitful. Plain and simple. PERIOD.

So basically, they are saying... no matter what, we don't trust the American voter, and we will make the American Idol who WE want... which is what I've ALWAYS said that they have done.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: hica19

I heard Katharine barely had a turnout during her welcome home special. It got to a point in which Ryan had to make some kind of excuse for her, and she was given a helicopter ride just to kill the time.

But for me, I could really care less who wins this season. My heart's just not into this year. Only people I had remotely liked were Lisa Tucker, Paris Bennett, and Chris Daughtry, but still didn't care about them enough to even pick up the phone to vote.

Which proves my point people hate on the ones that they are jealous or inferior to and the one who deserves to be the AI out of all of them is Kat. Either way Kat will have a career now and will go on to excel much further than Taylor could ever dream of. I also keep hearing him being compared to Michael McDonald. Not even close! Michael McDonald is the genuine article. He is very believable doing the style of music that he does.

Something about Taylor just comes across as very phony and cheesy to me.
There were so many better contestants than either of the 2 left. This may well be the worst finale in the history of the show. Can you say uninteresting???? I may not even watch it!

People compare Taylor to Elvis because he is unconventional and has touched so many people. Did Kat or Elliott have fans drive and fly from all over the country to see them at their homecoming? I'd say not. You all man not like Taylor, and that is fine, but he has given so many of us a sense of joy. He has touched our souls, and he is here to stay.

He's just a guy. Sure, he has a huge fan base... but he's not Elvis.

Now, if he gets the fan base, like Elvis, and starts making tons of movies, and lives down in history, years, and years, and years, after his death, I MIGHT consider that he should be compared to Elvis.

Just because he had a ton of people show up in his hometown, and the others didn't have that turn out... well, it still doesn't mean that he's "Better." Just more popular.

As for saying that he's touched your soul... I can understand, Sherry.

Mystic... you don't have to cure a disease, or save a life, or something. MUSIC is the one thing that we have, internationally, that can reach through in to our souls, and touch us. It's not being overboard by saying that. Chris touched my soul, with his music... his voice. Evanescence did that to me as well... reached deep into me, and helped me, through my darkest time. So, yes.... you can have your soul touched from an artist.

I get it. You don't like the guy, but you do not have the right to interpret what the rest of us feel when we listen to his music. I listen to his music every single day. Not a day has gone by in months that I did not listen to at least a half hour of his original stuff. There are thousands of us across the country that feel this way about his music.

Taylor's hometown turn out is a testament to how popular he is. Many of his fans have not bought a CD in years, but somehow Taylor connected to him. He made us love music again.

And you have no right to interpret the way I feel about someone because I said he is ordinary...that doesnt mean dislike...at least in my dictionary it doesnt.

I listen to his music every single day. Not a day has gone by in months that I did not listen to at least a half hour of his original stuff. There are thousands of us across the country that feel this way about his music.

Okay...but thousands doesnt make him Elvis, like Edward is trying to portray him.

Taylor's hometown turn out is a testament to how popular he is.

Many AI people had a good turn out...and a two minute stint on what you saw as opposed to maybe what you didnt see for other people doesnt make him better than the rest.

Many of his fans have not bought a CD in years, but somehow Taylor connected to him. He made us love music again.

How many of these people that said this do you actually know personally? Do you really believe everything you read on a forum? I could say Im the Queen of England...but it doesnt make it true. I could say I havent bought a CD in years as well..but do you really know if thats fact or fiction? I dont think so.

I didnt know that you hated music until Taylor made you "love" it again. And yet again...being the music major you are...I have a hard time believing that you stopped loving music until Taylors arrival. So again, I say you are being just overly dramatic saying that comment.

Just a side note, but I feel compelled to mention that Katharine McPhee had a pitiful turnout (in comparison to Taylor's and Elliott's). Are they really trying to say they couldn't find any screaming little girls in LA to come cheer for Katharine in comparable numbers? Or is this very telling of who's going to win?

Well Marc, I think that we're going to see Taylor win. He just seems it have a HUGE fan base. But truly, either could win.

Hey mysty - aren't you being a just a wee bit nitpicky with Fuscia's comment? I mean, if she said her soul has been touched by Taylor - that's her call to make and she's really given us no reason to believe otherwise. What's the point of debating that? But anyway ...

Am I being nitpicky? No not really...just thought I would post at how I felt the comment was overly dramatic. Thats the reality of different opinions I guess. No different than the nitpick of being told that I should not comment on anything I disagree with because other "soul patrol" people wont post. And that I dont agree with, for if someone really likes someone, they will post regardless...and those of us that dont agree, will state our opinion back. If we all agreed on everything, then how boring life would be, would it not?

I didnt mean to insist that he didnt touch her soul...but being that she was a music major, and her being younger than myself, I have to think that someone in the recent years musically did as much to her as him. Most music majors I have known have had many artists do that to them. They learn about so many different types of music, I have a hard time believing that its been years. To her, maybe he is the greatest thing since sliced bread...however there are many that dont see it. Do we not have the right to say that and wonder?

Anyhow...as for Kat not having a good turn out...I dont know, but what I do know is that we only see what they show us. Does it show who the winner will be? I dont know...its called good editing. The Cirie and Danielle fire competition editing on the past Survivor last week tells us that what we see isnt always what we will get.

Either could win Kris. You are totally right about that. I was honestly hoping it would be either Chris or Elliott up there for the final, but both of them will do just fine. I will vote like crazy on Tuesday, then sit back and enjoy the show and party on Wednesday.

I agree whole heartedly which you'll admit emphasizes the importance of my initial response.

Well, sure... but even if she was being over dramatic.... what then? Anyway, not a big deal - back to the subject at hand...

Right - I'll agree completely that it's all in the editing. Kat did mention after her segment, however, that she did not have the same "big" turnout that the other contestants had.

Mystic... you don't have to cure a disease, or save a life, or something. [/B]

I can agree with that if he was singing his own original songs. he is just covering already made songs and very crappily I might add.

I WAS a music major. Let's see Kris knows me, Ron knows me, Grant knows me, and they all know that I absolutely HATE the music that has come out in the last 15 years or so.

Whoa whoa you mean to tell me your a music major, and think Taylor has what it takes?!?!?!??! I'm curious to know what school you went to and what they taught you as being good.

Yes, she was a music major. And her opinion on good music might be different from yours. So what. Strange that thousands of others seem to think the same thing. That's why there are ALL different kinds of music. What 'touches' someone, or causes one to like something, is different from someone else.

SO! It isn't about WHAT he's singing, to some. It's about his voice, and his energy, and many other things. Why don't you read the thread that they started about why they like Taylor so much, and maybe you could actually understand.

Also, Taylor has his OWN songs. Songs he's written, over the years, and they are online. Sherry has every single one of them. So, she's heard his stuff, that isn't a cover. Just because YOU don't like him, doesn't mean that she doesn't.

Most people... even though they want Kat to win, say that it will be Taylor.

Actually yes I did nearly two years of a music major, lowest grade I ever got was a B, before I had to withdraw to have surgery. I am a classicly trained flautist. I will not reveal the school because it would give away too much personal information as to who I am.

As for Taylor being good, he is. You may not care for his stage presence or the sound of his voice. Those are subjective things that each person must decide if they like or not.
