| Monday night, Bush will address the nation about illegal immigration. He will tell us that we can't send them back, and they are just coming here to do the jobs that Americans are too stuck up to do. He will tell us that they are not criminals, and that they just want to feed their families. He will tell us that family values don't stop at the Rio Grande.
Apparently the administration has been getting some feedback and starting to realize that there is some political risk in going against the wishes of 80% of the American people. The boiled down, focus group message that Bush has gotten is that the American people want the border laws enforced.
So in oder to sell us this bill of goods, they are going to put BIG EMPHASIS ON BORDER ENFORCEMENT . Bush will announce the use of the National Guard for border enforcement. This is mere sugar coating to get us to swallow the bitter pill of amnesty and a guest worker program.
We can use the National Guard to enforce the border laws, but the problem is that there won't be any border once the new immigration law is passed in the next couple months.
Right now, the Bush administration is giving the Mexican army intelligence on the movement and location of the Minute Man militia as that group works to inform U.S. law enforcement of the wherabouts of illegal aliens. So you can see how phony is Bush's promise to enforce the border. | |
