American Idol: Season 5 Forum

Okay peeps.. all talk about tonight's elimination show needs to be in this thread.

Measuring the busy signal is 85% accurate through 20 eliminations.

Let me just say that I was up, for almost two hours, dialing in for Chris, on the first number for him. I got through 96% of the time. I was really, really, really worried. And, after going to dialidol.com, I'm about to cry. If my Chris goes home tonight, I'm just going to be devestated.

I got in over 200 votes for Taylor.

I'll see if I can get the Aunt Edna #s. Keep in mind that Chris gets a ton of text votes.

My friend, Ailene, spent two hours, after the show, calling for Elliott... on both his numbers. They were busy like you wouldn't believe. She got through a whopping EIGHT times. About 10 minutes to 11pm, when the voting stops, she got through three times, in a row.

I got maybe eight busy signals for Chris. I just PRAY that he's not going home tonight. Dialidol has been dead on each week with who's going home.

Could it be? Could tonight be the shock elimination we’ve all been waiting for?

Now whether or not something is “shocking” is really a matter of perspective:

Most shocking: Soul Patrol (considered the one with the most fans — but did they vote?)

Moderately shocking: Daughtry (will the powers that be let go of the chosen one?)

Somewhat shocking: E-Train (with regards to last night’s performance, yes — with regards to elimination predictability pecking order, no)

Questionably shocking: McPheever (being the weakest on Elvis night, fans will easily accept this result — unless you were brainwashed a couple of weeks ago that Katharine had once upon a time the most number of votes)

I don’t really know what will happen, but I do know that we are ripe for at least one jaw-dropping results night. It hasn’t happened yet, and it’s a yearly Idol tradition: we must expect the unexpected. I would be most shocked at Daughtry getting the boot, and would eat my brand new Sony Ericsson phone if that happens. Hahaha. Or poke my right eye whichever’s easier.

But my money is still on Elliott leaving — although for the sake of all that is good in the world I hope it doesn’t happen.

So who will be eliminated next?

Take anything Rickey says with a grain of salt. He hates Taylor. He puts up phone numbers for everyone but Taylor.

I just wanted to share it... because I liked the article. He's saying that it would be a HUGE shock if Tay were to be leaving tonight.

Rickey seems to be pro Kat/Elliott.

Well, we are all entitled to our own opinions... right? I mean, I'm not a Taylor fan. But, he's a good singer. I would rather see Chris (duh).

Yeah we are all entitled. I find it funny that he thinks it hurts Taylor that he doesn't put the #'s up for him each week.

Ummmmmm, I don't think that it makes a bloody difference. People get the numbers from watching the show, or from the AI board. So, he's not hurting Tay, at all.

Listening to the interview on the top 4.

On Elliott- he was worried about Elliott singing trouble. Called him a scrapper.

On Taylor- JHR called it an audience's performance. "Simon tries to alienate himself from th audience"

On kat- her choices were not strong, should have stolen Trouble from Elliott or done it that night too.

On Chris- thought LLC was average until the end. He said he is a Chris fan.

On Taylor's In The Ghetto- this genre of music was perfect for him.

In the Ghetto was possibly his fav. performance from Taylor, and he loved Elliott's song.

"Whatever happens tonight will be someone we don't want to lose" "the vote isn't always what we want it to be".

TOP TWO WILL BE REVEALED!

Next week will be 3 songs, judges choice, their choice, and one from Clive Davis. Clive will make the winners album.

I heard the bottom picks are going to be Kat and Chris...someone told me that they heard that prediction somewhere.

She also told me that people were complaining and having what they called "techincal difficulties" getting through to Taylor and Chris.

Anyone else hear this?

It's been all over the media today, mystic... that Chris and Kat were in the bottom. Dialidol.com put that up, and that's what people are going with.

Please post the elimination for those of us who can't watch it live. P.S. Gotta run....boss watching our every move.

I won't be happy if Chris goes tonight.... but, I won't stop watching it.

There's Simon dissing Taylor and Ryan dissing Simon. Well, same old same old, right?

Recap of the songs and the judges critiques. Some of them harsh but most justified.

They're spending quite a bit of time on the recap tonight. Does this mean they have no guest singer? [I hope!] Oooo...there is Elliott's rendition of Trouble. That was SO good.

Paula being restrained by Simon - sort of half standing and half sitting on his lap. Well, you never know with those two do you?

Okay, and here goes another bunch of commercials. I have no money left. Do you hear me sponsors? You've sold me all you can....

oh wait...it's a commercial for Gray's Anatomy. Ooo they get a bad heart for the sexy guy. That's not good. Perhaps Simon could give him his, he doesn't use his much.

And we're back. They're doing the Ford commercial. The song Wonderful World. Guys all looking scruffy, cleaning a garage. Kat looking hot sitting in an SUV. Parrot dancing with Taylor...well, the parrot actually dances beter. Hey, even Kermit is there!!! I LOVE Kermie.

Now for the tour of Graceland. Showing the fans lined up to see them all and the personal tour by Priscilla Presley. There they are in the jungle room. It's a little tacky, but pure Elvis. 'There's a pretty little thing waiting for the King, down in the jungle room.'

There's a sequined outfit. Glad none of them did the glitzy stuff last night. That would have been over the top.

Showing off his gold records. Had to make another room out of a raquetball court to hold them all. Think these guys will ever have that kind of fame? Nah! But they could do pretty well.

They're on a golf cart with Lisa Marie driving around.

Now they are doing a group number. Starting off with Don't Be Cruel. Rock it Elliott!!! Taylor doing Rock Around the Clock and Kat go go dancing. Lay OFf My Blue Suede Shoes. Now Heartbreak Hotel in inimitable Taylor style.

All sitting for Are You Lonesome Tonight [the phone commercial song]. Kat doing sincere version, very soulful looks into the camera. Cameramen love her - never a bad angle, do you notice? Guys chiming in, but this is Kat's song.

Chris doing Love Me Tender. Very nice!! Oh man, Chris is so hot. Elliott chiming in. Great vocals from him. Chris doing very tender vocals on this. Now they are moving into "Just Can't Help Believing" [don't know the real title.] oh wait, "This Time the Girl is Gonna Stay".
Judges all moving in time...well maybe not Simon. But Paula is doing the seal-like clapping she loves.

Hunka Burning Love is getting them all wild and crazy. Hey Chris even sort of danced - not like danced-danced, but he did move a bit.

Well, more commercials. New Nissan anyone? No? Well perhaps you'd like a Quarter Pounder instead? Want fries with that?

Sweeps month is taking up a lot of airtime. They are really plugging the popular shows.

Ryan in the audience with Rebecca Romaine? Who is that? She's freaking out apparently. Or so she says. Ryan looking for her ring. Are you hitting on her Ryan. She's with her boyfriend for heaven sake. Oh, she's on XMen the new movie. She also doesn't have a favourite that she's willing to admit to. She says Taylor rocked the house with Jailhouse Rock and she wants to see it again.

That's not good is it? Is this like a tricky way of working in a good bye song but not saying it. This is odd indeed.

Well Taylor is really rocking it out with Jailhouse Rock. Dancing around the audience. Doing that pigeon move he does. Guitarist with a sexy red guitar. Taylor with hand on hip doing a vampy move. Well, as vampy as Taylor gets.

I'm not sure that I'm understanding WHY Taylor is performing right now!

Ryan moves Taylor down the stage and says come down here. Has Taylor and Elliott on one side. Chris and Kat on the other side. Says we have top two and bottom two but doesn't say who is who. Asks 'Any Guesses?" Then he says......

people on the AI board have said for weeks that her dad is an exec with Fox. Makes you wonder now doesn't it when she sucks, yet Chris gets voted off.

I would like to hear that "rumor" made truth before I validate that.

Kat SUCKED... plain and simple, for the past two - three weeks. HOW Chris went tonight is beyond me. But, I know that he will get a deal out of this... and that nothing is going to stop him. And, his fans are going to stick by him. I love that guy, and I'm saddened, deeply by this tonight.

well he will get a great deal. I'll bet Tommy will sign him.

I would think that Tommy would sign him too. He was very impressed with Chris... and he would help him go far.


We were talking about this at work today... about the finalists, and them getting "contracts" away from AI. When you aren't the winner... what are you locked in to, and for how long?

They can not release an album until after 6 months after the Idol's album comes out, if I remember correctly.

That's right... but, they can get a contract with someone, can't they?


Speaking of "deals" Guess what deal Paris just got? She's being paid $10k, to do a voice, for three episodes of Sponge Bob. Not bad... $30k... $10k per episode.

Yes he can sign as far as I know. The worst spot to finish in AI is #2 because Simon's label holds the option on you. It is just horrible. At least Chris was spared that.

Okay, well that at least makes me happy!

Kat leaves next week... and then, Taylor wins it all.

I hope Taylor wins it all, if not I hope he goes while he can get a good deal. AI scares me with their contract. It is brutal.

I think that Tommy will sign Chris. Tommy knows how to market him, and I thought he brought out a great voice in Chris. I really liked his baritone voice.

To the Chris fans, I am very sorry about tonight. He should not have gone.

Man, I can't believe how many people, all over different places, online, are saying that they won't be watching AI anymore... that they feel that there was a switch up, on purpose, and there are tons of people who've written e mails to Fox, and news stations, etc...

Heck, you're right... they were cheering him on, and Ryan just blurts out... "You're going home!" The look of pure shock on Chris' face brought me to tears.


I know that he's gotten the exposure, it's still sad when you're following someone, week after week, sayzak. At least some of us wanted to see him continue.


Reading through some of the posted articles of the contracts though... I worry that they aren't as free as we might believe. So, we shall see. And, they can't even discuss the contracts (as it stated) because they can be sued for up to 5 million. DAMN!!!

I think Taylor thought he was going when they asked him to sing. He had that worried look when they asked for him.

CHRIS is going to get a live offer from a band, per Ryan's show.

Nigel also said in an iterview that "the number one vote getter would be singled out so the other two would know who the competition is". Taylor is the top one.

Chris deserves better... and though I'm devestated that he went last night (esp after how poorly Kat performed, two weeks in a row) I believe that he will be able to do something without a lot of interferance... to be himself.

Who knows, mystic. Is it a band, or the manager of a band, or a producer? Maybe Tommy Mottola? What about Fuel? They were totally interested in Chris. Have they found a replacement singer yet? There is just no telling.

Supposedly, it's Fuel. They have wanted him since he performed, Hemmorage. He was great, and would be a perfect front man!

Chris wasnt there...but the members said they talked about it before and they said we have entertained the thought before...and we are want to entertain it again, and we want to talk to you..(and they gave an impression that they have already talked to Chris before...and on the recording from RS's show, Chris sounded as if he knew who it was. Randy Jackson, as was posted before obviously knew...so I guess Chris must have talked to them after the performance of their song)

The offer is now on the table...

Now it's all about Chris seeing what he truly feels is his best option. Is it going with Fuel, or is it going on his own? I'm sure that Fuel isn't the only option on the table for him... so, it's just a matter of waiting on him.

[UPDATE] Chris Daughtry was reportedly made an offer today to sing for 'Fuel', and the details were revealed on the TV show 'Extra.'
Extra has the details: 'Fuel bass player Jeff Abercrombie and songwriter/guitarist Carl Bell came straight to "Extra" with the offer of a lifetime -- they want Chris.

"Chris, if you are watching, we've talked about this before, and if you want to entertain it again we'll take it and go," Abercrombie offered.

Chris' rendition of Fuel's "Hemorrhage" was his first groundbreaking "Idol" performance. The band, which has been searching for a lead singer, saw Chris' performance and they want him in the band.

Well Chris, it's up to you, but first "Extra" has another "Idol" exclusive. Our Terri Seymour was with Ryan and Randy for LA's FOX 11 just moments after Chris' shocking send off.

"Obviously, it wasn't based on singing tonight because the wrong person went home," Randy admitted. "Catherine probably should have gone home tonight."

It's down to the final three, and Simon came to "Extra" telling us now there are no favorites. "The funny thing about this show is when someone goes, you never know where their votes are going to go," Simon confessed. "I genuinely don't know who is going to win."'

Good for Chris, Its fuel and while i dont think he should have won idol i think he will be a huge asset to this band.

You know, at the end of that article, Ollie, it has a comment, from a friend of the Daughtry family, and she says:

I was shocked to hear that Taylor and Chris were room mates all this time on the show. We had heard it was Elliott that Taylor shared a room with. The source listed was a Chris exit interview.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out that Kat gets a lot less votes because of this.

I'm also pretty ticked off that they haven't looked into the claims that many have made about calling Chris' lines, and getting another contestants voice, thanking them for voting.

I always find funny the uproar about a contestant getting the boot at this point. There have been very good, even great contestants booted before now. I also find the conspiracy theories entertaining. If people were actually calling for Chris and someone else was thanking them for voting don't you think that would have been reported before the results were revealed? Interesting how these convenient stories come out after someone we like gets the boot. I don't remember near the screams when Mandisa was sent home WAAAAAYY too early. Let's all get over it and enjoy the rest of the show!

Actually, niwrad, I saw a lot of posts about the wrong voices hours before the results were revealed.

And Mandisa went at the right time... in my opinion.

Not on here. On official boards, for contestants. I go to a lot of Chris' boards, and read different comments, to see what people are saying about him.

When I saw a comment, here and there, saying that they thought that they dialed Chris' line, but heard Kat's voice, thanking them, I was wondering what was going on. But, it happened, more and more.

It's over though, and I think that I'm fine. Sure, I will miss seeing Chris tomorrow night, and hearing his voice. But, he will be back again, and I will be happy when his first album, no matter who it's with, comes out.
