I was skeptical about this movie but it seems to carry on the feeling of the Christopher Reeves films. The new guy sounds exactly like him, and pulls of the Clark character extremely well. I am officially looking forward to this movie.

Looks pretty sweet. The new guy does look the part. The new Lois doesn't look brilliant, but she'll do. I noticed the trailer's littered with a lot of Superman-pop-culture references... dunno how I feel about them, but could funny if they're all done right.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it now. We'll be seeing it at the IMAX, I believe.

I cant see it either, stupid quicktime garbage. But I did go to mytube and saw it, though it was low res.

Loved the old 70's superman music, and the voice of Supermans dad sounded exactly like Marlon Brando. AWESOME.

Film looks good, I'm getting hyped about this movie. As an aside, found this while looking for the trailer. Some kid pulling stunt in his college class. Thought it was funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYnZ...search=superman

found all 4 trailers for it there, in windows format. My favorite is the first one, with whoever it is that sounds like Marlon Brando.

The second one is the pop culture reference one, kind of lamo.

The last two are awesome. I am going to see this movie soon as it's out.

You think that might be the other way around?

But if you think like that ... he also has skin as stong as steel ... like the terminator ... and can run really fast ... just like sonic the hedge-hog ... and can shoot lazors out of his eyes like, errm, help me out here!!

I can't explain how cool that is. I thought it was a voice impersonator. I didn't know it was really Marlon Brando. I rarely get this hyped about a movie, but now I'm in the stratosphere.

Brando being in it is so cool, I don't know what to do. Freak out like some Nerdo Geek Guy and just go on and on about it I guess.

quote:
Director Bryan Singer decided on using stock footage of Marlon Brando that was originally shot by Superman (1978) director Richard Donner for the Singer version. Brando and Christopher Reeve were once filmed interacting with one another to be used in Superman II (1980), but due to a lawsuit against the Salkinds for a percentage of the sequel, the scenes were deleted and re-shot using the mother instead.

I also watched a Larry King Live show with Kevin Spacey, the dude who plays Superman, and the director. They kept showing scenes of Superman saving this jetliner. It was the coolest thing I ever seen. Made me tear up.

And they showed a scene of Superman taking off, and about halfway up, there is a micro cloud ring explosion thing, like water vapor poofing out when he hits the sound barrier. I think that might be the coolest thing I ever seen in a movie.

No way I'm waiting for the DVD, I'm heading out to the theater for this one.

I also think the bit in the Trailor where the bullet hits Supermans eye is pritty cool

The original plan was to have Richard Donner direct Superman and Superman II at the same time. Indeed, he had completed about 80% of Superman II, then producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind, decided to replace Donner with Richard Lester. Cast and were called back for reshoots. In a seperate dispute with the Salkind's, actor Marlon Brando as Jor-El, was excised from the story completely. Although Brando shot scenes for the sequel, with Donner calling the shots, a lawsuit prevented them from being used. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, was called back for the last of his pick-up shots, he refused, out of respect for Donner and a stand in was used. When you wath the film, anytime Hackman on screen, that's footage that Donner shot. Lester's task was to complete, not only the the remaining 20%, but in order to recieve credit from the director's guild, he had to replace much of the non Hackman stuff as well---essentially only 25% of Donner's footage remains in the film, as it is currently relesed on DVD.

I had no idea any of this happened. I knew Superman 2 was o.k., but a little hokey. I didn't know The Salkinds sacked the director and cut Brando's scenes. No wonder the other movies sucked as bad as they did.

All I can say, is I don't how long he will be in the movie, maybe only a few seconds, but this is the most awesome thing since Neo took up that pole, and started beating Agent Smiths with it.

See.... everything is a racial issue. EVERYTHING!!!
I mean, now superman has to be black!!
Then again, if superman was black, and the actor was with a white woman, or didn't get paid enough (the actor, that is), then we would have even MORE racial issues to contend with...

right malcolm?

He's Kryptonian, not white, black, green or purple.

And who said he's supposed to represent every race and culture?

Moreover, why's Kryptonite have to be GREEN? That is WHACK.

Superman may be Kryptonian but the actors who have played him were of the same race. The Kingpin, Nick Fury, Green Latern , Lex Luthor race has been adjusted in cartoons and movies. Why can't Superman or Captain America?

Because he is the main caracter of the whole thing ... how would they explain the sudden change in ethnictisity of Superman ... why must EVERYONE be black? in the places that it is made the majority are white, and they make things for the majority for maximum profets, and the majority need to be able to relate to the main character to get the highest ratings ...

dont get me wrong, i dont want ALL films to only have ethnic people in, there are films out, and rightly so, that are directed toward them. If you want a film with an all black crew, then make one, or go and see the many films that have that ... but you can't change classic films and story lines just because you have some issue with the world about the colour of skin!!!

With the Green Lantern, the power ring there have been many dudes that have had it for Earth, Hal Jordan, the next guy and then the next guy, white dude and black dudes. Is it Hal Jordan's fault he found the ring?

Superman came from another planet where he had light skin, I mean hell, what can he do? Maybe he was the darkest dude on Krytpon? Bad enough he's an illegal alien he has to get grief from you? Why can't you just open your heart to the illegal immigrants, what are you, racist?

I say the Son of Krypton is a legal citizen.

Man, do I need a life and half

Is it wrong that I don't? Black people need to be cast where they fit in, just like whites do. Most characters are open to both races, which is great, but sometimes it doesn't make sense. Superman was written as a white character in WW1 if I'm not mistaken. It is too late to change him now. It wouldn't make sense to have a character in Roots be white, just as it probably wouldn't make sense for a black woman to be a crew member in POTC.

OK here we go ... in krypton the people lived inside crystal, because their advanced technology stoped the radiation of their planet from harming them. To be black you need to live in a hot, sunny place, its the pigment of your skin over the generations of living in a very sunny place (like africa, or by the equator. Now if you have lived in crystal and cut yourself away from the radiation of the sun, you cannot become black ...

You know, Superman has a look as both Superman and Clark Kent that he needs to adhere to for people to recognize him.

A black Superman would be fine. He's got the suit, you know who he is.

A black Clark Kent would not be fine. The only way you would recognize him is by someone calling him "Clark"... but even then, the audience wouldn't identify him as Clark Kent...

Do you know why?

Clark Kent is a male, in his early 30's with dark brown hair and glasses. There's never been a blonde Superman, and that's because people wouldn't recognize him as being Clark Kent. It's really that simple.

There's no need to change every character. In fact, I'm not sure I appreciate that they changed the ones you mentioned, Malcolm. I'd rather they develop stronger black characters from the start, than change existing popular characters to black just to appease the complainers... That's just me though.

I wish you'd not see a racial issue in everything, man. It's hard for me to know if you ever think of anything else... There's no racial issue here. He is superman. He was created many years ago by 2 white dudes. They produced a character that meant something TO THEM, and subsequently that character grew to mean something to the rest of the world. He's remained the same for many years. He is the "godfather of superheroes". He is not meant to be changed. You want a black Superman, go rent STEEL and watch Shaq do his thing. I won't waste MY money on that junk, but if your issue is racial, therein lies your appeasement.

I agree with SDaddy, Lots of the comicbook characters which we love and use now-a-days were created in a time when black people didnt have much or any power, influence or say in the world ... My history isnt very good, so i wont coment on slavary and the beginning of comic book heros ...

Unfortunately, in the 40's, it is true that a comic book featuring a black hero wouldn't have sold. Of course, neither would a comic featuring an Irish, Chinese, Russian or Indian person would have sold either.
