CLAREMORE, Oklahoma (AP) -- The ex-wife of country music star Garth Brooks was kidnapped at gunpoint by a man who worked on her farm after she cooperated with a bail bondsman who wanted to arrest the worker, authorities said Tuesday.

Sandy Brooks had allowed the bondsman onto her property Monday to apprehend the man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant. The worker responded by drawing a weapon, forcing her into a car and ordering her to drive away, said Barry Lamb, undersheriff of Rogers County.

After driving for several miles (kilometers), Brooks stopped the car and fled into a convenience store, Lamb said.

Quintine Cornelius Harper, 24, was arrested and charged Tuesday with kidnapping and weapons offenses, police said.

Sandy Brooks and Garth Brooks were married for 15 years. The couple have three children, but none were present at the time of the kidnapping, Lamb said.

Garth Brooks married Trisha Yearwood in a private ceremony in December at their home northeast of Tulsa.

Sandy Brooks lives nearby, Lamb said.

Garth Brooks' Ex-Wife Reveals Crazy Kidnapping - Angry Lover Story

Country star Garth Brooks' ex-wife has spoken out about her kidnap ordeal in April, revealing the fugitive who abducted her was a lover she was trying to dump.

Sandy Brooks, 44, hit the headlines when 28-year-old gang member Quintine Harper kidnapped her outside her Oklahoma home at gunpoint.

The terrified mother of three sobbed as she drove away from bondsmen, who had arranged to meet her at her home to arrest Harper, with the fugitive at her side.

Minutes later she plucked up the courage to make a dash for safety and ran into a store. Harper was arrested shortly afterwards.

But, in her recent court testimony, obtained by American tabloid the Globe, Brooks confesses Harper had been her lover and she had upset her ex-husband by inviting him to stay with her and her daughters just months after meeting the thug last October.

Things turned nasty, according to the court testimony, when Brooks grew tired of her lover's lazy ways and demanded he get a job or move out.

It was then that Harper showed his true colors and threatened the safety of Brooks and her daughters.

She says, "He didn't think it was fair that I had ended the relationship and that I didn't know how special he was.

"He started talking about (gangs) Disciples and Bloods and the Crips and he said he was a Disciple and that the tattoo of a bulldog on his arm proved it."

Frightened Brooks decided to delve into her lover's past and discovered he was on the run from officials. She called a local bondsman to notify him of Harper's whereabouts and then attempted to dupe her boyfriend into staying with her until the law arrived.
