How many of you have actually been to Mexico?

If you have ever been to Mexico, it would be nice to hear your perceptions.

I've vacationed there few times and am going back in October for 8 days.
I love Mexico and the people. Apparently they love America more than Mexico.
I think that the Mexican government has done it's people a huge disservice by not realizing WHY there is such an exodus to America. However, some return with the cash and re-enter to get more.
Tourism isn't going to sustain the countries ecconomy.
I am not sure I have ever seen a product come out of Mexico that is a major ecconomic contender. Even when they made the orignal VW Beetle there, it wasn't exported and now they shut it down too.
The people of Mexico seem to be very hard workers when they work in America even at the low wages of migrants.

I live in San Diego, so I have been to Tijuana and Rosarito beach. You definately know that you are in a poor country. The people are hard working, but in TJ you have to be very wary of pick pockets.

Never been to Mexico, don't really want to go. Other countries don't appeal to me that much.

Have not been deep within Mexico - just a brush along the borders at Tijuana and Nogales. In that, I did not see a fair representation of anything other than areas catering to the tourist trade.

It seems to me that the only way to resolve the immigration issue is for the US to try to help Mexico resolve THEIR issues.
Mexico seems to be doing a real disservice to their people by not decreasing the corruption down there. I know it would take a hundred years to make any real difference, but how long can this immigration thing continue. Obviously the USA can't afford to continue to house, feed, clothe and educate their people. If you decided to move to say, Italy, would you expect the Italian government to do everything for you that we do for the Mexican and other immigrants? It's beyond ridiculous to think that we should or that we have an obligation to do so.

Went to Cancun and Chichan Itsa, my wife lived in Monterey and Costa Rica for a bit. I loved Cancun and plan to go back soon, maybe next year. A lot of the rual parts of the Yukatan was very depressed. We saw a lot of home with no windows or doors but most had a car. The little towns seemed to be okay. Now I can't talk about the rest of the country but and I really don't how much peoples wages were but there were a lot of cars on the road and not a lot of people just walking everywhere.

I made a trip down to TJ to get my prescriptions filled. Tijuana is horrible. Just on their side of the border, on the walkway to the street, we saw a dead dog. Don't know how long it had lain there, but there was no mistake but what it was dead. Nobody bothered to pick it up. We were approached by a tiny little boy. He had some wilted flowers clutched in his little fist and was trying to sell them. He tugged on my hand and offered the flowers. A lady was standing nearby.....I made the assumption that she was his mother. You have to be careful walking on the sidewalks in TJ. They are so torn up that you could trip and get hurt very easily. Mexico has tons of problems. THey don't appear to be trying to resolve any of them. Who wants to be the president of a country that everybody wants out of?
