Excellent song choices for Chris.
I could definitely see him singing Creed. He definitely has the voice for a song like Arms Wide Open!
Id comment on the other contestants...but I dont care about any other contestant. Chris has the goods IMO...the rest are just like anyone else...regulars artists. Are they good? Sure...but I can turn on the radio and hear those same voices day after day. Chris however, IMO, has a distinct voice that one cant hear all the time.
Again, IMO

Id actually love to hear him sing an old Santana Song...
Even better...how about Bob Seger?? Yeah...I could definitely hear that from him.
Another band choice for him, to me, and I only say this because his voice might make the song sound interesting is a song from Damn Yankees...maybe "High Enough."

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, "High Enough" by Damn Yankees would be awesome. But, does he have that range? To go up that high for parts of the song?

What day will they be playing the "real" music?
Rod is okay, but I wouldnt necessarily label him "real" music over other bands or singers...its all in the choice of the person, and what they like.
Personally, I dont see how anyone could think that Freddie Mercury isnt awesome...but again, its all in the choice of the person and what they like I guess. He's real music to me though.

| Posted by: Lawless | | Mystic.... EXACTLY! Each person has a preference, and that doesn't mean that one kind of music is better than another... or that Rod Stewart is "real" music, where as Queen wasn't! Queen has amazing music.... and it's very real.
I hope that we have some great performances with Rod Stewart's music though... because it could be really good, or really boring and drab.
I would LOVE to hear these songs... and I might pick multiple for one person... and not put another's name down, at all.
Maggie May (Taylor)
Forever Young (Elliott)
I Don't Wanna Talk About It (Chris)
Have I Told You Lately
So Far Away (Katharine)

| Posted by: mystic | | I dont know what I want them to sing now. I think they could have done without Rod Stewart.
I would like to have maybe seen them do someone a little different...I just dont know what.
I think Heart music might have been a good choice. Heart has so many different sounds. They have rock, ballads, etc.
Yeah...Heart would have been a good choice for any of them to sing.

His music is varied enough to have a lot of different songs.
HOWEVER IF They are singing the classics. They need to cool down the rock and roll and study Sinatra
Rod has made a whole new career on singing songs like The Way you look Toninight and They can't take That Away from me. Always. Etc
I am looking f orward to it If you all know, he is in now Very popular all over again
Harry Connick Jr has come out with an old standards like Sinatra,Michael Buble; is doing great doing the old songs and mixing with the new

I actually think Katherine could knock one out of the park with a Heart song.
After thinking about it, I think all of them could do well with Ann and Nancy Wilson songs. They have so many different types, each contestant could find one that is right for their particular genre.
I wonder if they ever pondered having them on that show?

Hey girlie!
BTW...Harry Connick Jr is perfection! Saw the guy in concert for his Star Turtle tour a few years back. There were old people, young people, middle aged people all there. The guy rocked it out. One of the best performers around. He was so great!
Yeah...Harry is perfection...not to mention that he is gorgeous!

That's ironic, Mystic, because I'm constantly thinking how, if only today's singers (not only Idol contestants) would sing the music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, they would shock themselves as to how good they really are. IMHO, a lot of talent is wasted by limiting some pretty darn good voices to the noisy drivel that's so abundant today. If you can imagine Crosby, Cole, Sinatra, Williams, Mathis, Como, Martin, Francis, Stafford, Laine, Damone, Diamond (and on and on and on) performing the loud noise some call music today, you'll know what I am alluding to.
So, instead of suggesting that today's singers do Heart, I'd like to see what they could do with Mathis, for example. I think several of this year's Idol contestants could "knock one out of the park" by doing that.
I guess I'm agreeing with what Delta said. I'll expand on that and say that, as far as I'm concerned, there are not enough Connicks & Bubles emerging today. There are a lot of great voices out there. I wish more would have the guts to say no to the junk and yes to the kind of stuff those guys sing. It's time to revolutionize music. One way to do it is to show the younger generations what it was like when there was music like that. They might be stunned to find out that they actually LIKE it. The world will be a better place.
Controversial, I know, but debate nicely now, Mystic.

Well...Im not gonna make it controversial. I have come to the conclusion that we will disagree on music. I like what I like and you like what you like.
Dont get me wrong..I love Harry...but not that many people can pull that type of music off. Harry, BTW, does sing rockin type songs. As I stated before, Ive seen him, and I have a bunch of his CD's and he doesnt just sing your typical Johnny Mathis type music.
I just think that the 50's music belongs in the 50's, 60's in the 60's, and etc, etc...each generation tends to (for the majority) stick with what they were raised on and music is made based on the time it was made. The 60's for example (early 60's) music was based alot on the war and peace. I personally like the 60's music, but I was born in the 60's and I like that stuff...but my 20 year old nephew doesnt like it..and its because he doesnt understand the stories behind the music back then.
Its like you not understanding the music and why its written today. Music changes with the generations. Sometimes people have to accept that changes happen. They have to stop fighting that change and just accept it. I find that you just wont accept the music of today. And dont get me wrong...thats fine for you...but you cannot constantly degrade those that do find it to be good. You want them to sing Johnny Mathis...well, thats okay for you...but it wont be accepted today. The 50's theme this year (even though I love Barry) bored the hell out of me. My mom and dad liked it, their children did not. The reason Harry Connick Jr has been accepted by all ages is because he is diverse enough in his music to be accepted...he plays all types for all people. BUT...people like Doris Day, Johnny Mathis arent diverse. Heart, is diverse. They have rock songs, and slow ballads, and pop type music.
Open your self to some new stuff AI...you might find that it isnt as bad as you think. You are just to busy fighting it to listen.

There's an idea! Lawrence Welk Week! Now you're talking!
And to Mystic, please know that I have given rock music more than enough chances to win me over during the last couple of decades. At least 90% of it is pure trash to me, and never will be anything but. If it's a function of the changing times, yes, I would agree, but there is a lot of bad stuff going on out there that you rarely saw in the earlier decades. I'm not real sure which came first, the chicken or the egg, but I do think it's not a stretch to say there is some connection between the two.

Still, it's great, in my opinion, that we have people on AI with different styles. I would be bored if they were all singing the same exact things. When they add a little flare to the songs, it brings out a bit of their personality. | | Reply To this Message

Talking of Harry. He used to live down the street from me in New Orleans. Nice kid then great talent now.
We have to keep our minds and ears open to all diferent kinds of music.
Last year Mystic and myself were big Bo fans while most everyone else liked Carrie.
That doesn't stop me from being a well rounded music lover.
I am keen to hear it all. Thats the only way we can Fairly Judge THE TALENT. Let them sing everything then we will have a winner.
Good seeing you too Mystic

| Posted by: AZIdolfan | | I could give literally thousands of examples of why I find so much of today's "music" so distasteful, but I have better things to do. The kind of music that the younger generation lstens to and spends money on does not come close to comparing with the wonderful stuff from the past, IMO. Last year I posted a comparative video. Now here are audio excerpts from that video. It speaks for itself.
Play and compare this with this!
Just click on 'Download Now' and play these two 20 second sound clips. It provides examples of two very different kinds of music. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: mystic | | First off, Im not bickering, arguing, etc.
Personally I dont care who listens to what.
My only point is that instead of constantly going on and on about how one's music choice is "real" while stating that anothers choice isnt "real" (whatever that means)...one should just L E T I T G O.
Anyhow...the reality is, as much as one doesnt want to admit it)...their choice isnt that acceptable choice of today.
Johnny Mathis or Greenday......Greenday will win hands down in the younger to mid age generation. Unless you are 60 and older (with a few exceptions under that age), Johnny Mathis isnt something one wants to hear.
So...my point is, when one is too busy stating that his/her choice is better than everyone else's, therefore the rest are wrong, then perhaps maybe he/she should just...and I repeat...just let it go and allow those others to just like what they like too!
