Governor to debate shortening of 'Texas'

AUSTIN - (AP) Legislation will be presented to Texas governor Rick Perry this week regarding an unusual act seeking to shorten the state of Texas' name to simply 'Tex'.

"We feel that this will more adequately represent our state, it's current direction as well as preserve it's rich history," said Lana O'Boyle, spokesman for Move Texas Forward, a non-profit organization supporting the act.

Analysts dismiss the proposal, citing similar legislation that has never garnered support of the people. But this time an overwhelming number of Texans approved the act and it will be on the governor's desk for final approval.

When asked why her group wanted Texas shortened to 'Tex', O'Boyle responded, "it only makes since after the 'ass' moved to the White House."

I felt there should've been a dude with a drum kit the accentuate the punch line. Or some clown with a slide whistle.

What would you guys say about Minnesota? We have a diverse culture here... We have the city folk, the hicks, the illegal alians... we have more coastline than any other state in the country with our 10,000+ lakes...

appropriately, our state bird is the loon.

The Edge in the Oregonian had an Oregon State motto competition a few months back. Here were the winners:

Oregon: If the Rain Don't Kill You, You Can Do It Yourself

Oregon: No, You're Saying It Wrong

Oregon: Just Do It. It's Legal.
