Alright, fess up. Someone, somewhere is keepin' it real and refusing to upgrade. You rock on!

Still using dated tecnology? Be honest...

Even if you still have it laying around, let us know.

Alright, I have two VCR's. One is also a DVD player and the other I have in the garage.

I have a phone with a cord in my bedroom, but I usually just use the portable anyway.

I have a cassette player AND I LOVE IT... I have a vcr (but i have a dvd too) and I have my original nintendo. AND I STILL USE IT, THANKS! As of last month, my parents still had a corded phone at their house, but they finally upgraded. every phone is cordless. They also have their 8-track player so there's no excuse for THAT.

I felt like a jerk the other day, some dude had a pager and it went off. I was like, what's up 1994?

Then some jerk scoffed at me and wrote something rude in his Blackberry as I talked on my oldie flip cell phone.

Use the vcr everyday for recording t.v. shows. Can't beat it.

Maybe with TIVO, but I'm old, and I don't know what a TIVO is. I get the idea it involves a box like thing with electric gadgets in it, and lots of wires, and some kind of payment, so I stays away.

Cassetes rarely.

I still got my old nintindo, use it from time to time when I get nostalgic. It's a super Nintendo though, I think it was the second one out.

I would say I still use a VCR (though it's seldom that I record anything) and a phone with a cord is a definite. Most of the phones in my house are corded; doesn't it suck for you if there's a blackout? I don't have a cell phone, so a corded phone is something that's all over the house.

As for Nintendo, I still have mine in pristine condition, but I have all the NES, SNES, and Genesis games on emulator so I can just play on the computer (probably did that 3 years ago).

I used a cassette player 1998-2001 because I used that to do soundtracks for my animated films, but I actually popped in a tape a few weeks ago to listen to some music tapes I made back in high school. The cassette player is still used in my house during Christmas season, but that would be me parents using the tape instead of me. I don't really listen to music in the car (I've never owned a car), so I wouldn't be using the tape deck in the car either.

Pagers, never used a pager, probably never will.

Pre-remote control television, I used to use one a lot during high school and then one day it exploded and smoke starting coming out the top so that was that.

And Whidden, you must mean Super Mario World, all of the titles are Super Mario Bros. I actually have a lot of fun playing the Super Star Wars Trilogy for SNES, my friends and I played all three together. We also played Final Fantasy 2 (US)/4 (JP) together as a group. I'm about to fire up the emulators again because of this thread.

When I was in my early 20's, I would lay on the couch and play Nintendo.

I got the briliant idea to turn the T.V. sideways, so I didn't have to crook my neck up. This worked for a little while, then the t.v. started smoking, and gave up the ghost.

Talk about a stinky smell.

Yeah, Super Mario World. That was my favorite. I got the book on secret levels and made it to all 93 worlds.

But that was before I owned a computer, so I had plenty of time to play it. Never would have found any of the secret worlds without the book.

I may fire mine up this weekend now. Getting nostalgic here.

Threads like these really date people, for me, the cool systems were the SNES and the Sega Genesis. I was in high school by the time N64 and Playstation really took off, so I didn't really pay it any mind. But I hardly pay attention to the new consoles because I don't believe they are worth more than $100-$150, in fact I got a Nintendo when the SNES came out, it was only $50 and the games were under $10.

Cassette, VCR, all phones are corded.

As for pager: Does a two-way satellite pager count? One that can send and receive emails and pages, satellite controlled, has calendar and contacts, and memos? If so, pager too.

As for corded phones. Old school for one reason. Conversations cannot be snatched out of the air. Must go to the trunk to "listen in." (Not that I have anything to hide, just like my privacy. )

ICB was right about the cord phone during a blackout. I had this conversation with some pals a few weeks ago. I think everyone should have one just in case.

I still have the Super Nintendo somewhere. But I barely play my PS2 these days so I don't know if I'll be firing up the old girl any time soon.

A buddy of mine has this controller that you plug in to the TV and it has hundreds of old NES games, awesome.

I have cassette tapes but don't listen to them much. I'm more of a CD or vinyl record (I LOVE records!) person. My dad has 8-tracks, but we don't play them because the player likes to eat the tapes.

I've never had a Nintendo, X-Box, Playstation, stuff like that, but I've played on the Original Nintendos before. They rule! I've played Yoshi Story, Super Mario Brothers, and Zelda on them. I do own an old gameboy from years ago and still play Tetris, Zelda, and Pokemon red version on it

I've never owned a pager.

I use my VCR every week to tape Lost I love it. We used to own this awesome tape rewinder that was separate from the TV, but it broke. Too bad, because that thing was cool.

My parents, brother, and cousin all own cell phones, but I don't want one. I'd have to start carrying a purse if I had one. Almost every room in the house has a phone in it and they are all corded. The one in my room is a DIAL telephone, not one of those lame PUSH BUTTON ones.

We own a pre-remote control television but don't get to use it anymore. I loved it, with the big knobs and switches and rabbit ears that had to be adjusted every time. I also LOVED the little white dot in the middle of the screen when you turned it off. Then we had to go and win a TV and that on got moved downstairs, then this Christmas dad bought a big TV for a gift to the family and that lovely remoteless TV got moved into a room somewhere. I hate remotes They make people so lazy. My dad will be on the floor watching TV and if he wants to change the volume he has to go and find the remote, even though he is right in front of the TV and can change it by hand.

What about a typewriter? Anyone else still have one of those? We used to have it in the same room as our computer, but that is the same room as our library and the books got so many that we had to move out the typewriter to make room. I used to use it all the time but now it too is put away

So I'm one of the youngest people on this site and I am using stuff that was already updated by the time I was born

Here are all the Nintendo game I have for Nintendo (a much shorter list) :
Super Mario Bros. 3
The Legend of Zelda
Crystalis
Time Lord
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse

That's it.

Sega Genesis:
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Mortal Kombat

Sony Playstation:
Final Fantasy VII

I don't have that many game by a long shot, the most I have is for the PlayStation2:
Enter the Matrix
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Tenchu Stealth Assassin: Wrath of Heaven
Madden 2004
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

My house had a computer since 1985, but I we did have a type writer. I remember printing out papers on the noisy dot matrix printer, and the pages were very long. You also had to rip the perforations and get rid of the side strips that kept the pages in line.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Pippin

Our old printer had paper like that and we still have boxes of the stuff. Sometimes were take the side bits and draw pictures on them and put them in one of those circular twirly things and spin it and we get to see a little silent picture. I can never remember the name of that round spinny thing

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Inner City Blues

I used to think the printers in school were cool because they were color. But to print a page, it had to print a page three times so it had a chance to print the different colors separately. The real annoying thing with dot matrix printers is having to deal with the ink ribbons.

I remember we got our laser printer back in 1992 or so, it was so slow, but we still use it today, great print quality, horrible graphics quality.

We have a nifty button on our typewriter that looks kind of like an x in an envelop. If we make a mistake we push that then the last letter we typed and the ink on that letter is picked up. It's really cool! I've never had to use white out before on a typewriter

Hearing the typewrite go "clackityclackityclackity" as you type is wonderful. Especially if you type really fast, then you can type a sentence and take your hands off the keyboard and watch as it gets typed in front of you.

Floppy drives are definitely obsolete. You can now have a small USB drive that holds 2GB of data and put that on your keychain, or as my friend with a 1GB drive says: "A gig of porn around my neck."

I personally like to shuttle my data around on my 250GB external hard drive (plus it has lights).

I have a cassette player in my car because I get much better sound through it for my Sirius Satellite receiver. Better transfer than FM transmission.
