No posting about the episode anywhere but in this thread until after the show is over on the West Coast, or else Fuscia, Kris, Cousin, and I will form a gang and hunt you down. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Pippin | | Well, it starts in half an hour and I'm excited. Ethan is supposed to show up, so that means that Claire gets at least some of her memory back and he get to know at least some of what happened.
I really want to know what happened. I mean, Ethan wanted her back, so it wasn't like he just let her leave, and he had a scratch on his face from a fight, so we know that she didn't just sneak away when he wasn't looking. So how did a scared and disoriented pregnany woman escape super-strong Ethan the Other? | | Reply To this Message

|
| Posted by: Pippin | | Okay, here are the only spoilers that I know:
Ethan and Zeke show up this episode, presumably in Claire's memory.
Zeke is clean-shaven when he appears in the flashbacks. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Pippin | | Good episode! So why would Zeke need to disguise himself with a fake beard? He said that Ethan was supposed to make a list first, so I wonder who else they were going to take? I'm sure that the girl who helped Claire was Alex, so who was that girl who tossed the bomb?
I was expecting the mobile to malfunction and for the planes to break off, so it would look like the one in Claire's dream.
Desmond didn't take all of the medicine with the Numbers, did he? With a frantic grab-what-you-can collection like what he was doing makes it easy to miss stuff.
I thought that Ekko was going to slit his own throat
That captive guy is one tricksy fellow. He made Locke get ticked and break the non-replaceable plates.
Sun pregnant? I know that Sawyer has a stash, but I don't remember him ever saying that he horded pregnancy tests, and besides, Jack raided his stash and I don't think that Sawyer would go around collecting everything that was taken from him. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Pippin | | The problem with the main people is that most of them don't know how to work with a team.
Jack-Doctors are highly competitive, so he's used to trying to be better than anyone else
Kate-Worked alone
Sawyer-Worked alone
Shannon-No one liked her enough to want to hang out with her, so alone
Sayid-Knows how to work with a team because he was a soldier
Locke-No family and rejected by Helen, so alone
Ekko-I'd say he's pretty much a loner, but when he works he has no problem working with others
Claire-Single mom, alone
Charlie-His team was his band, but the only member that really mattered to him was his brother, who left him. Alone
Hurley-Dunno. After the Numbers we never see him with anyone else
Jin and Sun-Team
Michael-Alone
So there are all these people that want to do stuff and there are two people that are arguing over who gets to boss everyone else around and even if they finally decided who would do the bossing it's now like anyone would want to listen because most of these people aren't used to being told what to do. They need to get their act together and work something out, or that guy that's locked up is going to have the easiest time in the world pitting them against each other.
And I wonder who the 'him' was that Zeke was talking about? | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: illuminate | | So... is that hatch that claire saw the hatch that the guys are in? And where did everyone go? Obviously they've been there somewhat recently if zeke was wearing that beard when he went to scare jack and everyone when he kidnapped kate.
I don't GET IT. so does that mean everyone is going to get infected? or do they infect people? AHHH TOO MANY QUESTIONS! | | Reply To this Message

the first 5 minutes of the first episode of season two is the most awesome thing I have ever seen on T.V.
Get ready for it.

| Posted by: Whidden | | I really liked this one.
Had a few complaints, mainly about Claire letting that baby cry for so long. Or more accurately, the producers of Lost allowing the crying baby to go on for so long. I was about to hit he mute after awhile.
And why doesn't Claire call the baby by his name, rather than saying over and over,
MY BUY BEE!!!
But other than that, awesome episode. I wonder if they need kids and babies to make the antidote they are using?
As for the clean shaven part, and the wig and beard and the makeup, that blew my mind. The only explanation I have is that they are not as cut off as they want to appear, and have access to the outside world, but wish everyone to think they are natives.
I don't know, don't have a clue on that one.
---Whidden clips off part of beard, gives it to Pippin. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | I watched the last half hour. I watched AI.
I liked that the crazy french chick tried to help Claire. That was cool.
Someone explain the wig to me. What wig? | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Lawless | | Okay...
I just watched it tonight, off the dvr. Sis, you've GOT to upgrade to that. It's awesome.
Anyway...
When they show a flashback from when Claire was in this place, Zeke was totally clean shaven, and wearing nice clothes. When Claire, Kate, and the French chick went in there, Kate goes into a room with a bunch of tall lockers. She opens one up and there's all those "rags" that the others were wearing, handing in there, and a box on the bottom. She opened it and you see cosmetic glue, and Kate picks up the beard that Zeke was wearing. It's all costumes. She also found that beanie that was taken, in that locker, and kept it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | So they are not island pirate scum after all!
Yeah, a DVR would be cool.

|
| Posted by: Lawless | | No, they aren't... they were wearing decent clothes, and looked good.
I just can't figure out WHY they wanted the baby, and what they were going to do with him.
(Sher, I think that it's like an extra $10/month for the dvr, and you can record two shows at the same time. But, if you do that, you have to watch one of those two channels at that time. Otherwise, just recording one, you can do whatever you want. And, you can rewind a show while it's on tv. Like, if you didn't hear something correct, you can hit rewind. You can pause it, and then hit "live" when you want to go back to the live feed. You can set it up to record a show every single time it's new. So, every week, it records AI, Lost, Invasion, etc... as long as they are first runs, and I don't have to worry about missing a show) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Whidden | | Regarding "him" that Zeke spoke of, and the clean cut appearance of the crew.
I said earlier, I thought it might be Alvar Hanso. But now, I'm wondering if it could be Desmond.
I don't want it to be, but that would be a cool storyline, that Desmond set them up to mess around in the hatch. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Lawless | | Ohhhhhhhhhh, wouldn't that be something, to find out that Desmond was a part of them all along? Dang!!!
What if these people are some freaky doctors, and scientists, that have a lot of money, and they are running an experiment on the island, and totally screw with people's minds, while performing tests, at random on them? What if every single thing that they do, and how they react, is a test, to something... to a bigger picture? | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Whidden | | Well, it would fit in with Hurleys statement that there was only 3 months supply of food for one person left in the hatch.
I found that odd. Of course we find later he is saving food back, but still. It's like a plane or boat is keeping the Island supplied. This whole time, we are led to believe the Others have been there a long time, and look like barefoot Hobo's.
Then we see they are clean cut, well fed, living in a hatch of their own and use makeup to look like Hobo's.
As for the captive our survivors have, and the bunker itself being empty, it's like something bad has happened to the others, scattered them up. Maybe they got sick. Maybe they need kids and babies, not for a ruse to escape the monster like I thought before, maybe they need the kids to make their antidote. But every time I speculate with this show, I wind up dead wrong.
Maybe being "Good" has more to do with if they can make a vaccine off you or not. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: lickety_split | | Watching the episode "Maternal Instinct" made me wonder if the whole "LOST" island thing is a scientific experiment set up by some geniuses who want to see what the effect would be if they could control people's thoughts, actions and behaviour.
I thought: What if this plane crash was a hoax planted in their subconcious and the reason they (the Scientists) wanted Claire's baby is because he would be unaffected by normal society.
Then again it could all be a dream.
I saw this British film called "Dead End" and I thought I saw some similarities there as well.
It was one of the better episodes of LOST I've seen in quite awhile, with the exception of Mr. Eko's and Hurley's backstory. | | Reply To this Message

Exactly... we're thinking the same on some ideas.
But, the one thing that I've learned with Lost is that everytime you start to figure it out, they change it on you, and get you lost again.

| Posted by: Sayzak | | Who else thinks it's pretty obvious that the dude in the hatch is an 'other'? He's obviousely got superior hearing, has a superior memory, and knows how, within a few days, to pick someone apart psychologically. I think he's an experiment who is spying on the survivors and he could break free at will. | | Reply To this Message

I find it strange that he reads Stephen King, and seems to know and understand recent popular culture. He is either pumping captured survivors for info, or The Others have access to sat TV, or they fly back and forth to and from the Island. To the modern world.
I hope Libby hypmotises him and makes him talk.

| Posted by: Sayzak | | Yeah, it's strange, but it's pretty obvious they have access to the outside world with the washer & dryers there. Unless they somehow washed ashore, and Desmond installed them. That'd be an interesting Desmond backstory. But I think Desmond is part of the whole thing. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Pippin | | Well, since the Others have all this vaccine to ward off the illness, I guess that my long-standing theory that they were button-pushers who got sick is now proved false. Shucks.
I hope we see more of that Other in the hatch. That would be good if Libby hypnotized him, but Jack would never allowed it and there would be some more head butting between Locke and Jack.
Why don't they have more people pushing the button? It seems like it's always Locke or Jack, with the occasional other person pushing it. Many people know about the hatch and use the washers and dryers, so it would be easy enough to say that anyone who wants to wash their clothes has to take a turn at the button. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: EleanorRigby | | that episode was just strange. strange. strange.
... was that hatch past the mark where zeke said they can't cross?? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: illuminate | | I think they really are not on an island. it's just one big gigantic set - a la truman show. or, the other side of the island is full of civilization and they can get in and out of this side of the island as they please. Desmond must have been a part of the experiment. I think he needs to keep up the front that they are on this mysterious island and it's part of some research and blah blah blah.
my question is this: if the "others" are indeed normal people. What's with the superman powers? | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: EleanorRigby | | maybe this show is really about all the assumptions we make about things which we really know nothing about. | | Reply To this Message

All that research Alva Hanso was into. The 3 dollar word stuff. Telepathy, genetics, etc.

| Posted by: Sandy June | | Ethan did have superhuman powers didn't he? I forgot about that. The "others" are definitely bad people if they were going to take Claire's baby and kill her. That is so wierd that they are putting on a show with the rags and beards. Sun will be in danger when they find out she is pregnant.
Desmond did not take all the medicine. There is still some in the hatch but I don't think Claire knows that.
I think the "others" for some reason don't want the children to be affected by whatever they want everybody else to be affected by. I can not even say for sure it is an illness. Brainwashing, something in the water, the air. Who knows. Desmond took shots so he would not be affected. I assume they are giving all the children the vaccinations. I feel frustrated sometimes that there is so much to figure out. I think if this was a book I would be tempted to skip to the end. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: illuminate | | I forgot Sun was pregnant. Man, if Sawyer busts out with a pregnancy test, that'll suck. there's no way a plane'll have THAT in stock. I can't wait to see what happens when the medicine runs out. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Lawless | | Well, someone could have had one on the plane, in their suitcase. THOUGH, I would be SHOCKED! It's more like something that could be found, later on, through one of the hatches. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: illuminate | | HAHAHAH my roommate and I actually wondered about that. what do they DOOOO when it's that time? hmmmm. NO wonder kate's all sweet one day and all snappy the next. I think Sawyer is constantly PMSing. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Sandy June | | I would say almost every woman would carry one in her purse so they should have some. As far as the preganancy test. It is definitely possible there would have been a couple in the baggage compartment. They have a lot of stuff from the carry ons and the luggage under the plane, purses, briefcases.
I think it is a rerun tonight. I am tired of reruns. | | Reply To this Message
