I strongly recommend that you play the first FSW before FSW: TEN HAMMERS. It has an excellent training session that you have to pass before you are allowed to progress to the missions. This is very helpful because the play and controls are so different from anything that you have played before. Also the two games are a continuous story and it just makes sense to play them in order. Besides, the first FSW is only about $15 now.

No. not real but fictional historical events in the fictional country of Zekistan, modeled after Iraq. Even the geography of the country looks like Iraq. Read this:
