Filming to Start on New Harry Potter Movie

LONDON - A veteran Academy Award nominee and a 14-year-old unknown will join the cast of J.K. Rowling's epic Harry Potter series as filming begins next week on the latest movie, producers said Thursday.

Millions of fans across the world are eagerly awaiting the adaptation of Rowling's fifth book — "Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix" — which sees the return of young actor Daniel Radcliffe in the title role.

Filming will begin Monday in Hertfordshire, a county in southern England. The movie is not slated for release until next year.

The plot centers on the arrival of Dolores Umbridge, an unpopular new professor at wizard academy Hogwarts. She will be played by actress Imelda Staunton, nominated for a 2005 Oscar for her performance in the bleak period drama "Vera Drake."

Potter also wrestles with his attraction to new character Luna Lovegood, a role taken by 14-year-old newcomer Evanna Lynch.

Lynch beat out 15,000 young rivals in an open casting for the part in Britain.

The last film in the series, an adaptation of the fourth book, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," was 2005's top earner at British cinemas.

It recorded box office figures of 47.6 million pounds (US$84.1 million or €69.4 million).

HECK! Get to reading. That is the darkest book of the series. It is a good read. Hell, even my mother-in-law has read the book.

The plan is to see the 4th movie and then borrow the 5th and 6th book from my mother.

Of course, I have to finish Angels & Demons first.

Luna: 14-year-old Evanna Lynch from Ireland, who attended the open casting call for the role three weeks ago, will start filming at Leavesden Studios later this month. This article from 2003 most likely describes the same Evanna Lynch; she's from Termonfeckin in Co. Louth.

Umbridge: She has been rumored to play the part for months now (saying it herself on GMTV), and WB has now officially confirmed that Imelda Staunton will play the nasty DADA teacher.

Bellatrix: Helen McCrory will play Sirius' cousin. She's appeared in the film, Count of Monte Cristo.

That casting is brilliant.

On a side note, there was a rumour recently that Sirius Black wouldn't be played by Gary Oldman (because he hasn't signed on yet, despite the fact that filming has begun). I read recently that Gary Oldman's publicist said he does intend on playing the role again when they get around to asking him, which won't be for a while since they don't really need him yet.

so basically all that drama amounts to nothing.

Well, I read an article that stated actors (Snape, and Molly Weasley) wouldn't be filming until April. Could it be that they have different schedules, and that he hasn't had to sign up until now? I just hope that they get on with it. I'm ITCHING for OotP to be in the theatres.

Mundungus Fletcher won't be cast for Order of the Phoenix.

He isn't really a pivotal part of the story, so I think we should be okay. It would be interesting to see how the dregs of the wizarding world live.

I dearly hope the story begins with Dudley and Harry facing the Dementors though!

Mundungus isn't really important in OotP, so I'm not extremely upset that he wasn't cast, but I thought it was interesting because I think he will eventually play a key role in the entire series. At the end of HBP, there were some strong clues that he has the real locket.

I didn't notice any clues, but I'm kind of dense. Now that you mention it, though... that'd be pretty cool...

Any word on whether the actors that play the Dursleys have been cast? That'd let us know if the scenes with Harry and Dudley are there

Though I guess its hard to get rid of that scene and still have Harry running away with the Order...

The Dursleys are going to be in this film, but they didn't say whether they were using the same actors. I'm assuming they are. Dudley's friends, Piers and Malcolm, will be played by Jason Boyds and Richard Macklin.

There's been a bit of contraversy about whether Gary Oldman will return as Sirius, but most people think that he will.

I think his people were worried because he wasn't asked, but the WB folk released a statement about a week ago saying they definitely want him to return, he's just not needed yet.

Honestly, Sirius's role in the fifth book/movie is important, but he won't appear THAT much.

It's going to be fantastic seeing the young James, Lilly and Snape
