So you find a wallet with $10,000 cash (so it's a big wallet) with credit cards, drivers license, family photos, etc.

What do you do?

I say finder's fee. I think getting 5 large back is something, plus they get their plastic and family photos back. Everyone is happy.

Well, I might just keep that money! What can I say... I am poor, and in need!

What about those family pictures. Little Johnny's little league photo. Little Jane's first ballet recital... and last, because little Jane died and that was the only known picture of her. You're just mean.

Oh no, I'm no dummy. I never touched the pictures, just the money. Besides, I'm not an idiot. I would clean that stuff before sending it back!! I've been around the block a time or two.

I would have to give it back mainly because it's not mine but also 10 grand in a wallet means that the owner probably had grand plans for that 10 grand, besides waht if it belonged to an old person or something.

I don't like these hypothetical situations unless I am sitting down at a board game just for fun...but, anyways...

First of all, 10,000 wouldn't fit even in my big ass wallet with three slots for cash...Heck! that's 100 $100 dollar bills..., you mentioned it...I took it further, but anyway...

I would like to say that I would hunt this person down and give them their wallet. After all, that's what I would like to happen if I lost my wallet.

I'd give it back.

However, if I found a brown paper bag with $10k in it, I'd keept fo' sho. I'd make no attempt to find out who's it was.

I find a bag of money in the middle of the road, I squirrel that sucker home and spend it a little at a time.

ACtually if I found the bag I would hand it to the police if nobody claims it in 30 days it legally becomes your anyway.

I would take the cash and give back the wallet ... what do i want with a card i cant use and someone elses falmily photos ... just say i found it without the cash in it

So what's the difference between a paper bag and a wallet? I skewed the question by adding it's in a wallet with pictures and all that, but what about a paper bag makes the morality go out the window?

if he had been saving ... i wouldnt have left it somewhere for you to find! he lives on the street ... its not stupid enough to leave money lying around ... he knows people will steal it

But something as big as a poor persons life saving ... you would think they would look after it ... a MOBILEphone is easy to replace, its likedropping a five dollar note ... thats what insurence is for right? The poor person wouldnt lose 10 grand ... if someone is rich enough to lose 10 grand and not remember where he left it, or left it behind he or she doesnt deserve to have it ... me you would look after it better than the last owner

It's either a miracle from heaven....or stashed or thrown away by bank or 7-11 robbers....that's why you MUST take precautions. But these are the only options.

Because no innocent person would just dump a bag full of $10K accidentally.

OK a question ... where is this bag found? if it was on the street its public property ... when you put your trash on the street someone could leugily come and look through it

Call the person and ask about a reward, and if they don't say you get one, then take some money anyway. Hey, you gave them the chance, and they probably don't know exactly how much money they had in there.

I'd have finder's remorse. though to be honest, i don't know of anyone who keeps their phone number in their wallet. so i'd probably drop it off at a lost and found or something, or give it to the person if i knew them personally.

Like I said before, I think a finder's fee is in order. But would it be alright to just take some cash and drop it back on the floor?

I would at least drop it off somewhere after the finder's fee was removed.

And it's pretty easy to get someone's phone number by just using the info. on their license. Type your address into Google and see for yourself.

I have a folder under my Favorites titled "Creepy Stalkerness"

plenty of ways to look up people's phone numbers, addresses, even criminal records.

It's great.

I once found a wallet in the street that was devoid of any money, credit cards or anything very valuable. It did have the womens address in it so, I called her to tell her I found it. She accused ME of stealing it.
If you bring it to the police, they give you the evil eye like you may have done something wrong.
If it ever happens to me again, I will return it (somehow) annonomously.
