Can the peace process continue without Ariel Sharon? Sharon has suffered a catastrophic stroke, how will this change peace talks in the Middle East?

this all depends.

if militants step up attacks, all hope of peace will crumble as a major hard-liner takes power in Israel.

when Arafat died, there was new hope of peace, so maybe a similar thing will happen when someone else takes power.

It really depends on who is elected the new leader. Israel traditionally picks leaders with military and conservative backgrounds and if they elect somebody like that again then there could be a problem.
You have to remeber though that Sharon's drive for paece was onlt the last 16 months of his political life and he has had a political life for over 25 years, 16 months work can easily be undone in 16 weeks in politics. You also have to ask yourself will the new leader sign up to the roadmap to peace. Ideally what I would like to see is the new Israeli leader and Abaas get together in a neutral country ( Holland and Australia aew two fo the few countries that Israel and Palestine have not accused of bias) and serioulsy talk about pecae and co - operation to acheive peace.

Everyone keeps 'talking' about peace; and things seem to be getting more and more violent.

Exactly what is the definition of "peace?"

in the case of That-Land-Along-The-South-West-Mediterranean... it means "impossible"

I voted yes.

For the simple fact that the bible says that the end time events will not come upon the world, until a time of peace envelops not only that region, but the whole world.

How long it will last I don't know. But as long as there are wars and tension and all this killing going on, we know the Day of the Lord is not just around the corner.

The region turns all peaceful, then I start to get nervous.

And yes, I know, what a terrible doctrine to have, a belief that if peace comes, then the end comes.

But I'm starting to think, the peace may be the result of the Beast Power rolling into the area, kicking some butt, and enforcing some kind of peace in the middle east and in the world in general.

It's supposed to be a world ruling government, like the Roman empire, or the Persian empire.

(statue in Neb's dream and all that).

I agree Whidden. When false peace comes on the scene in Israel, the Antimessiah has taken power. When that happens, "run for the hills" all those who follow the Messiah Jesus...cuz the Antimessiah will kill and destroy as many Christians and Jews as possible because the Antimessiah/satan wants to rule the earth. That cannot happen if people believe in the Father/Jesus.

The good news is that his 'reign' will only last less than seven years...and then Jesus will come with his heavenly armies and bring true and lasting peace.
