Without the Controversy...

I originally wrote this post with spoilers, but they weren't needed, so its spoiler free.

Quite honestly - and this is just my opinion - without the whole "oh he's saying this or that about Jesus Christ and his relationship with whoever, this book just falls flat, right onto its face. It was lame, it really was.

Sure, towards the start you have the interesting info on certain paintings, buildings, perfect design and all of that hoopla, but once you get past that you have about 5 characters to wonder "whodidit" - and you know who it is, because he's the lamest character out of the lot... it just had to be him. You're not even given subtle hints/clues or anything, just motive.

I must be one of the only people who read this book, didn't give a rats ass about the religious aspects, and tried to see it as a mystery and was just severely disappointed... I think if you took the blow to Christianity out of the book, I feel a lot of people may have thought the same thing.

To be honest, I haven't read these books.

Several of my friends and coworkers at my former job who know me very well have said...you really need to read these books...but start with Angels and Demons. And I say to them...why? They are fiction. Because many of these friends and co workers believe them to be true...and I'm like "a little bit of poison mixed in with truth can still kill."

But anyway, I bought a copy of the Da Vinci code from the library for $1.00 and it has been sitting there until the time I would be needing to read it.
Seems like its that time now.
But I'll get a copy of Angels and Demons from the library first per my friends recommendations.

I agree - i think the controversy has a lot to do with the popularity of the book. I'm not a big mystery fan but being catholic, and raised to believe a certain "idea" - i loved reading a new idea. I know it's fiction but for me it's more like a "fiction - but you NEVER know, could be true..." I know Dan Brown's style of writing is simple but the story as a whole was entertaining to me. Taking out the religious controversy, I can see how it can seem a tad bland.
