What, in your opinion, was the best movie put out in 2005?


(and don't "whine" if your movie isn't in there)

I know its nuts, but I went for Sin City in this poll. Mainly because it was an underdog, and it really was one of the best movies I've seen in the past 5 years.

Harry Potter and Hitchhiker's I liked just as much though

No surprise, I don't think... I went with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It was just an amazing movie... the special effects were so dead-on real looking, and they did a wonderful job adapting the book to the screen.

Star Wars III would be next for special effects

and

Mr. & Mrs. Smith would be next for EYE CANDY!!! (on BOTH parts)

Oh yeah, I thought Star Wars was pretty darn good too...

I have only seen Sin City, War of the Worlds, Star Wars III, The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and Fantastic Four out of that list. Star Wars, the acting was so bad, War of the World, the ending was so bad, Hitchhikers was good but not GREAT and I missed the ending of Fantastic Four, so my vote goes to Sin City, which WAS great.

Serious, I picked Star Wars. Let me say it was semi-tough because I was a big fan of Wedding Crashers and 40-Year-Old Virgin. Those were great. But this was the last Star Wars movie ever, and it was great. I needed it to be great or else I would have challenged Lucas to a duel. That's the vote and I'm stickin' to it.

I picked Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It was awesome! The pacing was great. The special effects were out of this world.

I voted for Serenity. It put Harry Potter to shame.

Man, all most all of those were awesome movies. Had to go with Narnia though.

Virgin was damn funny though. You can't really compare a raunch comedy with a gripping drama though.

i'm not comparing them. that was just my pick out of the ones listed. being as how the one i liked wasn't. i'm just working with what i have... that's all.

I'm happy with the choices. As good as Crash was, I'd take 40-Year-Old Virgin over it, not only because I like comedies better, I think it was a great vehicle for a funny guy. Crash was great, but an ensemble cast that went through familiar plots.

I can tell you what the WORST movie of the year was:
family stone.

great ensemble cast but a mess of a movie. i give it two pukes and a poop.

My best friend just saw that yesterday. She said that it was "okay"

i think that's the highest compliment one could give this movie....

but perhaps this is off topic being that this is the BEST movie thread...

still... it sucked

King Kong was great because it had Adrian Brody in it AND Andy Serkis playing two different characters.

King Kong licked ape.

3 hours waiting for that damn thing to die. Ugh. You would think after Jackson went on Jenny Craig he would also trim down the bloated run time on his movies. Just because he likes to make 3 trips to the snack bar during a movie doesn't mean he has to compensate with longer than necessary movies. Put down the milk duds and week old hot dog and go to the editing bay you neckless, overgrown Peck.

Having just seen Narnia today... it's in my top three for this year!!!!

Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Narnia.... all three were AWESOME!!!
And then, there was Rent!!! It was beyond amazing, in a different way!

After seeing King Kong, its on my bottom 3... that did suck the big one.

But the Kong/T-Rex action was almost redeaming.

Narnia Batman Begins and Sin City really come down to the top choices here. Unfortunately, I haven't seen Narnia yet, so I'll withhold my judgement. Damn you, Ondemand, hurry up!

i'd like to change my answer to Narnia. Just saw it and i loved watching that book come to life. The battle scene was cooooo.

and what OTHER character did Andy Serkis play in Kong? besides that guy that squinted one eye?

Yeah, so, what was he in some big robotic monkey suit? That must have been hard to control.

No, there were little motion-capture things stuck to his body and he acted the part, then they just edited the motions to be done by Kong.

so basically he was that creepy guy from LOTR, but with hair.
