Syriana was written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, winner of the Academy Award for Best Screenplay for Traffic. Gaghan started thinking about the machinations of the global oil industry while doing research for that earlier film. He had met a host of powerful people in Washington, including those at the Pentagon who enforce America’s anti-narcotics policies. It was then that he began noticing some interesting parallels between the trafficking of drugs and the power plays of the oil industry.
“At that time,” says Gaghan, “the Pentagon’s anti-terrorism and anti-narcotics branches were the same branch. And I started thinking that maybe the biggest addiction in our country is how we’re hooked on cheap foreign oil. And that our easy access to oil is what gives us a good deal of our edge."...... |

| Posted by: Sierradaddy | | Took me a few to really understand the pacing and continuity of the scenes; how they tied together and where they were heading. After that, I thought it was ingenius. I think it was an awesome movie. It very nearly DID blow my socks off. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: nikiTa | | Yes, I thought the pacing of the movie was very odd.
But then I thought if the pacing were any different, it would have been difficult to connect the dots.
It's my opinion that the scenes were slower so that we could tie it all together.
But it really reflected the complexity that is geopolitics...and also...how these complex events tie into a result that cannot be disputed. In essence, I think that this is how God works....events are complex, yet He knows the end results...and shapes and forms events (yes, there is free will, don't get me wrong) and ultimately, He is in complete control of what goes on.
And with all the corruption and violence and hatred in the world...it is all leading to certain events written down years and years ago....
One of my "hobbies" if you will is to watch these events, and see how they unfold...and how they become the results they have become....
All I can say .... THY will be done! | | Reply To this Message
