Brazilian-Portuguese songstress, Astrud Gilberto famous for her vocals on Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto's The Girl From Ipanema (1964) has committed suicide inside her London flat early Monday morning. Astrud shot herself twice, once on her foot and another time in her heart, killing her. Astrud was distressed after a bitter fight with her ex-husband Joao Gilberto over money.

Astrud leaves behind two children, Catalina (born. 1961) and Marcelo (born. 1963).

My full sympathy goes to her and the family she left behind.

She had an excellent voice. The kind of voice you want to hear when you are either depressed or worried. I have heard that met she was the sweetest person on earth.
I think it was Carlos Santana who had met her at the Latin Grammys in 2000.

Joao Gilberto left her penniless and was for many years a dead beat father. He had dated several models even while married to Astrud. Her father was a drunk and left her to defend for herself.

She has the saddest eyes. Its a shame. No one really knew what talent she really had.
