Thinking about doing this as a gift idea for the boyfriend-- anyone have it and think it's a good idea?? Will I be a cool girlfriend or will I end up killing him for playing a thousand different video games all day?!?!?!?

A quick google search told me that gamefly is an online renting system for games.

What are you thinking? A year's subscription? That's be a great gift idea, but you would probably end up killing him.

that's all I can offer, except to post a dancing banana

And here it is

While the dancing banana has been very informative, I was just looking for the opinions of anyone who uses it/knows anyone who uses it. I am familiar with the idea itself-- kind of like a Netflix for video games-- I was thinking maybe less than a year so he can try it out and see what he thinks.

Anyone, other than the banana, familiar??

*bump-- never ended up doing it but now thinking of doing it as holiday gifts for a few people. again, wanted to know if any other gamers can help me out with some advice. what is best-- i game, 2 game, 3 month, 6 month?!? I don't know what to do!

Well, this would just be people's opinions. I'd say get 2 games for 3 months. At least that way if he does get fully obsessed with playing games, it'll only last 3 months. And 1 game just isn't enough...

Of course it's opinions-- I know-- but since I am not too familiar I was interested in getting an idea of what people who have it think might be the best idea. For the 2 games, is it two games at a time? Or two games over the month? If it is two games at a time, that is actually what I was thinking for the gift ideas-- just give 'em a taste! They can sign on for more if interested after that....

everyone else think this is the best idea?

well, it means you can have 2 games out at a time, and return one while you play the other... according to the website, it may take up to 2-4 days to get a game returned (if you don't like in CA).

So its really only 1 game you can play at a time, generally the other one will be in transit to or from the gamefly people. Still seems alright... just long delays between returning your disc and receiving the next one.

I only buy games... and that's not too often. Renting is useless for me. I never return stuff on time, it's cheaper to buy it. Plus, I can play it later on.

I seriously have about 4 PS2 games I have bought and never played. A few I've played a few times. Odd.

I'm like that too, that's why I generally only get games when they're dirt-cheap.

Renting games is kind of up my ally, though. Since I get bored with games quickly, I can return them and get new ones... my problem is I need to plan what game I feel like playing ahead of schedule, which is tricky.

I thought you can buy games from GameFly-- and at some kind of discount as well. Is this not true? As for renting, I have to imagine that it is a great thing because then you don't buy games you don't like. Don't you need to test them out first? I mean, I would never buy a movie without watching it first.

Quite true

You can't rent games here in Taiwan though, so I don't.

It makes sense to rent them first, but like I've said, after late fees I've already bought the game anyway.

Also- Gabo, clean out your PM box man! Was trying to send you something...

I feel like renting is a must-- I see your point about late fees-- but if someone is good at returning, then renting is the best option. I am ordering my gift subscriptions tonight-- it's settled. It is, in fact, going to be a very merry xmas for some lucky folk.

LOL I can tell you this. I used to have this service and all I wanted to do was play games. But he will love you for it no doubt, but than again a guy who chooses video games over his lady has some problems anyway lol.

Well if all you wanted to do is play games, then this service was probably right for you! Why'd you stop using it?

As for him playing games all day, I had the same fear at first. I will give him the gift and make him PROMISE to remember that I am important even though I can't be controlled with remote controls! We'll see how well that works-- oh, and I will only get him the 2 games at a time option so I can attempt to control it a little!

Fantastic. That's the kind of thing I'd get, but it's just simply impossible here.

Where are you? Really in Taiwan? Because if so, then yes, it is impossible out there. Sucks because it really is a cool service-- like a Netflix for video games.
