She has been battling Hodgkin’s disease, a type of cancer that affects the lymph glands, for the past year.
Delta began dating Philippoussis at the start of her illness after he sent her flowers in hospital. Delta supported him when he crashed out of Wimbledon in June.
News of Brian and Kerry’s split came as a huge shock to Westlife fans.
Brian quit the band to spend more time with I’m A Celeb winner Kerry and their two daughters.
But his debut solo single Real To Me went straight to No 1 and he has been plugging it all over Europe.
Romance could finally be on the cards for Brian McFadden and Delta Goodrem, according to The Mirror.
Over the past few weeks, the stars have both denied tabloid rumours that they are dating. However, following Delta's split from tennis star Mark Philippoussis, Brian and Delta are now both free agents.
A source who saw the pair together in the recording studio told the newspaper, "The atmosphere has definitely changed between them. In the studio there's no mistaking the chemistry.
"It's obvious that Brian has always had a soft spot for Delta, but while she was with Mark nothing could happen. "Now they are both free agents and it shouldn't be too long before it really starts going somewhere.
"She's going back to Australia and he's going to Scandinavia but the signs are looking promising."
I don't think Delta is the kind of girl to float from man to man straight away. I thik they are just friends, maybe something might happen in the future, but not now.
Brian McFadden and Delta Goodrem may have finished recording their duet but it seems that the friendship has continued outside the recording studio.
The pop stars left onlookers guessing over whether romance was blossoming between the pair when they gave their first TV performance of their new duet Almost Here at a celebrity gala last night.
McFadden hinted at his affection for Delta when he told an Australian newspaper after the recording: "Delta and I are not singing together but to each other."
Miss Goodrem's romance with tennis star Mark Philippoussis reportedly fizzled out and the Aussie pop star and Brian have since been consoling each other.
However, despite being spotted together in public since Brian's split with Kerry, the pair have hotly denied rumours they are romantically involved.
Brian McFadden has finally confirmed the rumours - he is head over heels in love with Australian beauty Delta Goodrem. The ex-Westlife star admitted he fell for her last month when he watched her on stage at the Royal Variety Performance.
Brian and Kerry called it a day in September and Brian recently told the former Atomic Kitten singer he'd actually found love again:
"It was the hardest conversation of my life, telling Kerry I was in love with someone else," Brian said. "It was really emotional and I think it was the first time she fully accepted it was over. I don't love her anymore and we're not right for each other. We drifted apart."
Depressed Kerry was later admitted to the celebrity Priory Clinic but has since returned to public life and has a new brunette image, as well as a svelte new figure.
Brian and Delta spent the festive period together in South Africa. They first met last summer to record a duet but nothing happened between them until December.
Brian and Kerry have two daughters from their relationship. "They are my main priority," he added.
Brian McFadden has received a wave of sympathy since his split from wife Kerry - until her foster mum stepped into the fray. She has savaged the Irish heart-throb, accusing him of being "spineless" and "rotten". Not to mention the fact she called him an "absolute b*****d!"
She lashed out after Brian apparently revealed to Kerry his love for Aussie singer Delta Goodrem on Christmas Eve. The pair were seen together on a sunshine break in South Africa, ending months of speculation they had got together.
Kerry's mum said: "He has been portrayed as someone who still cares about her. But he is a spineless, rotten man who should have laid his cards on the table from the start.
"Kerry is heartbroken. She was stunned when he told her. She is still in a fragile state from the split. He is an absolute b*****d."
It is a double blow for former Westlife star Brian, who has reportedly been told by Delta that she doesn't have the time to start a relationship.
A source told the Daily Mirror: "They don't have a future as a couple. Delta saw their trip to South Africa as a fun holiday and not the start of a relationship.
"She said she would never move to Britain to live because Australia will always be her home. Delta also told Brian she will be spending a lot of time in America this year, trying to crack the music market."
People in the UK seem to be taking this Brian and Delta thing really hard. Kerry and Brian were like a Posh and Becks and everyone seems to have wanted Brian and Kerry to get back together. I hope it doesn't ruin Delta's support base over there.
The way I see it though, Brian and Delta have known each other for a while now, they met when Brian was officially seperated and they had a good time. Brian left Kerry and that should be the end of it. If he has moved on, so should she.
Delta Goodrem & Brian McFadden's 'Almost Here' Video
Delta Goodrem and former Westlife star Brian McFadden teamed up on their new single 'Almost Here', due out in the UK on January 24th. Watch it online at SonyMusicEurope.com in hi, med, or lo formats.
Aussie babe Delta Goodrem has denied she started seeing new love Brian McFadden while she was still dating tennis star Mark Philippoussis. Delta - who spent Christmas in South Africa with Irish singer Bri - says there was "no overlap".
The pair reportedly got it on while recording a song together for Goodrem's latest album, Mistaken Identity, last year. At the time, Brian was splitting with wife Kerry McFadden, while Delta's relationship with the tennis ace - nickname The Scud - ended several months later.
"He had his own problems, I had my own problems to deal with," Goodrem told Australia's Channel Nine, discussing the early days of her initial bond with McFadden. "When he was going through that (marriage break-up) we recorded the duet and I was travelling around Australia and doing things and came back and did the video and he'd gone through his break-up and it was a different time. I was still in my relationship.
"There was no overlap. We were both single at the time and 20 years old and it was just enjoying someone's company."
And talking about her fledgling relationship with the ex-Westlife star, Delta added: "It's really early days. We got together at the end of last year, like December, and now we've just become friends. We work together so we do spend a lot of time (together) at the moment and we've got a single to promote in the UK and Europe."

--------------------------------------- Kerry banned from Brits
KERRY McFADDEN has been banned from the Brit Awards. Her ex-hubby BRIAN McFADDEN is attending with new girlfriend DELTA GOODREM — their first official outing together. Brits bosses don’t want a nasty scene between Kerry and Brian so they have refused to invite her.
I saw the interview with Delta and good ol' Richard Wilkins (God I can hardly believe he's STILL on TV ). She looked really uncomfortable and you could tell that if she could've gotten away with not saying anything about Brian, then she would've. But she had to address the rumours going round the UK that she was the reason Brian and Kerry split up, which isn't true. I admire her for trying to set the record straight, but with rumours like this people will tend to believe the lie, it's much more interesting.
Brian McFadden has sparked speculation that he is to wed new girlfriend Delta Goodrem - after she was spotted flashing a ring on her engagement finger.
The smitten pair went public with their relationship last Saturday (22.01.05) on British TV show 'CD:UK' - and shortly after the confession, while performing their duet 'Almost Here', Delta was seen sporting the platinum charm.
An on-set source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Brian and Delta were very touchy-feely backstage. But Delta definitely wasn't wearing the engagement ring before or during their interview. They went to get their make-up done before coming back to record the duet. By that time she'd slipped the ring on and made no attempt to hide it."
Brian, 24, who separated from wife, ex-Atomic Kitten babe Kerry Katona, last summer, has revealed that he wants to keep his new relationship private.
Delta's spokeswoman has slammed the engagement rumours and said: "The ring was a gift from her parents."
Meanwhile, Kerry has revealed that she wants laser surgery to remove the 'Brian' tattoo she had for her ex-Westlife lover - to prove that she has moved on. The troubled beauty - who has confessed that she still loves the father of her two daughters, and has been admitted to the priory twice for depression since the separation - is desperate to lose the painful reminder as soon as possible. She told a friend: "I'm nervous about getting the tattoo removed because of the pain but the sooner the better, "I need to move on from Brian as he's obviously getting on with his life."
The last thing Delta needs is to get married. It's too soon after she broke up with Mark and Brian broke up with Kerry, they've dating for like a month. They definately shouldn't get married.
Although, why would you wear a ring from your mum on your wedding finger?
Delta Goodrem and Irish rocker Brian McFadden have stepped out together and confirmed their relationship in a candid interview on a British chat show.
Goodrem also took the opportunity to deny a rumour she was engaged to the former Westlife singer after she was spotted wearing a ring — the incident being put down to an jewellery malfunction.
"I guess it's my fault anyway because I always wear my rings on every single finger I have," Goodrem said.
In the interview McFadden revealed he had just met Goodrem's parents for the first time.
But the pair have not had it easy, enduring intense tabloid scrutiny over their previous relationships. Goodrem has denied she is a "marriage wrecker", following speculation she was the reason McFadden separated from his wife and mother of his two children, Kerry Katona, last September.
The couple appeared unconcerned on the chat show when questioned about the pressures of career and distance on their relationship; they are currently spending most of their time together, promoting their duet Almost Here on Goodrem’s latest album.
It was a strange interview that one. Brian hardly said a word, alhtough he did say that was because he was tired. He seemed to want Delta to do all the talking and cop all flak and answer all the hard questions. It didn't seem a very equal or very loving parnership, but, it was just one interview. Who knows what they're like when they're alone together.
IT has not been a good start to the year for Delta Goodrem.
Her much-anticipated second album is fast dropping out of the charts, ticket sales for her debut concert tour have not been selling as well as expected, and she was booed this month while performing a duet with her new beau, Brian McFadden.
Then last weekend, an ex-boyfriend who dated Goodrem when she was a teenager revealed details of their sex life to the British tabloid News of the World.
The former Neighbours star has been in Britain promoting Almost Here, a duet by her and McFadden that debuted at No.3 in the British charts this week.
Goodrem's sparkling reputation has been tarnished by her relationship with former boyband singer McFadden, 24, who was married to former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona until late last year. The couple have two young daughters. Goodrem, 20, whose love life hit the headlines when she split from tennis player Mark Philippoussis, became caught between the estranged couple after photos of Goodrem and the Irish singer on holiday in Cape Town were published around the world.
Goodrem was booed and subjected to the crowd chanting "Kerry, Kerry" while performing her duet with McFadden at an Irish charity concert in Dublin this month.
Goodrem met McFadden, who is on the same record label, when they recorded Almost Here in the middle of last year.
The British public are being really horrible about this. Delta and Brian's relationship was purely professional before he left his wife and only became personal some time after he had seperated from Kerry. I know most people think that's a convenient thing to say and not the truth, but I believe Delta. I don't think she's the type to fool around with a married man, not after how she felt when Mark did the dirty on her.
It's not Delta's fault that Brian and Kerry didn't work out.
Brian McFadden and Delta Goodrem headed up a host of A-listers who were on hand to pay tribute to the finest talents of the Irish music industry at the Meteor Awards in Dublin on Thursday.
The Australian singer showed off her stunning figure in a multi-coloured silk outfit with plunging neckline. The hot new musical couple then hit the stage to perform an emotional duet version of Delta's tune Always There.
The evening's big winners were Irish rockers Snow Patrol who scooped gongs for best Irish band and album for their latest release Final Straw. Morrissey and PJ Harvey took home statuettes for the Best International Male and Female awards respectively.
Meanwhile, Brian's old band mates, Westlife, proved that even as a quartet they are just at popular at home in Ireland as they are in the rest of the world. They took home the fan voted best Irish pop act edging out Brian for the gong.
Among some of the gala's other performers were Oscar-nominated actress Juliette Lewis who delivered an energetic performance alongside her punk-influenced band The Licks.
DELTA Goodrem's mother, Lea, has pleaded for Australians to be kind to her daughter as she returned home after a tough stint abroad.
Lea Goodrem, who manages the singer, said: "Please be kind to her." The plea came after British newspapers blamed the 20-year-old for the break-up of Irish couple Brian McFadden and wife Kerry Katona.
Goodrem was booed by a part of the audience when she and McFadden sang at an Irish charity concert last month. She was subjected to chants of "Kerry, Kerry" from the crowd.
And a former boyfriend who dated Goodrem when she was a teenager recently revealed intimate details of their sex life.
But Lea dismissed suggestions her daughter was suffering from the controversy over her new beau. "She is so excited to be home, and honestly, it's not what is being reported."
She told the the negative press did not intimidate her.
Goodrem said she was excited to introduce McFadden to her homeland. "I'm really excited that he's coming home to Australia and hopefully he'll enjoy being here," she said.
Goodrem and McFadden will perform their duet at the MTV awards.
A FURIOUS Brian McFadden demanded a hearing on Australian TV to defend the honour of his girlfriend Delta Goodrem - and then showed his unchivalrous side by claiming he and ex-wife Kerry Katona had been having problems for years.
The former Westlifer sat with a teary Delta on A Current Affair to put his side across in what he says is a concerted campaign to discredit them both.
But amazingly Bri claimed that his estranged wife is thrilled for him about his relationship with the singer - even though she is actually convinced he started seeing Delta before they split.
"When she speaks about Delta, she's given her blessing for our relationship and now she's got her own relationship and she's moved on and she's happy." And he insisted: "She knows Delta had nothing to do with our split. We'd had problems for years. I want to set the record straight. Delta's a good girl and that's why I love her. It's disgusting what is being said. I couldn't believe it. Everyone knows what Delta's like. It made me feel sick."
Delta is about to launch a major assault on the US music charts and will spend a lot of time there during this year.
We have a feeling Brian - whose album sales have been very disappointing - may be joining her there.
Brian and Delta have just been delightful since they got over here. He is so sweet and considerate and kind to her, which is what we want to see. And she seems totally smitten with him too. It's so sweet. Brian has been defending Delta left right and centre and we love that.
Brian is well on his way to be officially adopted as an honorary Australian, which generally happens when you marry or date one of "our" stars. Tom Cruise is an honorary Australian.
DELTA Goodrem could not help showing her affection for her Irish beau at the premiere of Hating Alison Ashley in Melbourne last night.
Wearing a mauve dress embellished with lace and beads, Goodrem, who plays Alison in the film, stepped on to the red carpet alongside lead actress, Saskia Burmeister.
With a bevy of admirers and photographers looking on, Goodrem rushed over to boyfriend Brian McFadden and planted a kiss.
Goodrem's relationship with the married ex-Westlife singer has sparked a barrage of criticism in the British press. The singer with the 'good girl' image has been labelled a marriage wrecker after McFadden's split with his TV presenter wife, Kerry Katona.
But Goodrem was all smiles at Victoria Gardens cinema in Richmond last night. The sight of the pop princess was too much for one screaming schoolgirl, and she burst into tears.
Other stars of the film based on Robin Klein's best-selling novel include Craig McLachlan, Tracy Mann and Richard Carter.

Delta Goodrem And Brian McFadden Perform in Sydney

PITY the passengers who had to endure the sight of Brian McFadden slobbering all over girlfriend Delta Goodrem on a recent flight to Germany. On a plane packed with reserved businessmen, the pop pair were getting down to the business of non-stop smooching.
An onlooker tells us, "They were acting like a honeymooning couple. It was actually rather embarrassing being in the same place as them. Delta had her arms around Brian and kept giving him pecks on his cheek throughout the flight and he couldn't take his eyes off her. Even in the Est Est cafe at the airport they were all over one other. The friend with them looked a bit embarrassed at times.
"When they landed Delta went to the toilet and Brian kept wolf-whistling at her. Everyone was staring at them. Most passengers are not used to seeing that kind of thing when they fly to Germany on business."
Since Brian McFadden and Kerry Katona broke up last autumn, one or the other has been in the media weekly talking about their bitter break-up and new loves.
It's been a tumultuous time, culminating in Kerry's spell in The Priory. But now it appears things are calming down, with a meeting designed to clear the air.
Brian and Kerry caught up in an Irish hotel to introduce their new partners - Delta Goodrem and decorator Dave Cunningham - to each other. It's thought to be the first sign of a truce for the couple, who have two young daughters together.
An insider said: "This is a massive move for the two of them after what's been an incredibly tough six months. They're in love with new partners now but want to try and be friends, because that will make things easier for their children, Molly and Lilly Sue."
Brian's relationship with Delta was initially thought to have caused the break-up with Kerry, although he denies anything happened until after he and Kerry separated.
Kerry went on to have a fling with ex-lover Dan Corsi before getting it together with Dan, who's thought to be moving in with her and the girls.
