Grand slam ... Delta dumped by tennis ace

POP singer DELTA GOODREM, who was rumoured to have had a fling with BRIAN McFADDEN, has been dumped by tennis ace MARK PHILIPPOUSSIS for PARIS HILTON.

Pals say Mark was set up with the heiress-come-porn star by chart rival HOLLY VALANCE.

Paris and Holly are working together on the movie National Lampoon: Pledge This!

An insider said: “Holly hooked them up and they had a wild night out. Now Mark is Paris’s latest obsession.

“She is telling everyone Mark ended it because Delta is boring.”

Aussie star Delta now faces the humiliation of promoting her single Out Of The Blue – the love song about Mark helping her through her cancer battle.

Paris ... right on the Mark

A pal of Delta said: “She is devastated. She didn’t even hear the news from Mark, she got a call from her mum.”

Delta admitted supporting Brian through his split but both deny they were ever an item.

Poor girl. While Delta’s big hit was Innocent Eyes, Paris’s upcoming effort at pop is called Screwed.

That just about says it all really.

That bastard Mark and that whore Paris can have eachother. What a pair of losers. Everyone said when Delta and Mark first got together that she would be the one to straighten him out, but he's always had a wandering eye.

Anyway, it's Mark's loss, this will do wonders for Delta and her career, Mark was always bad boy, but having Delta as a jilted lover (especially over Paris Hilton) will only make more people sympathetic to her.

Philippoussis: I Didn't Dump Delta For Paris

Tennis star Mark Philippoussis told 2GB radio's Alan Jones he and singer Delta Goodrem agreed to end their relationship because of their careers, denying reports he dumped her for Paris Hilton. "Delta and I had something special and unfortunately it didn't work out and now it's just making everything feel like it's all rubbish, and it's tough," Philippoussis said.

He added, "We're both young, she's just starting her career. She's going to get bigger and bigger and I need to get my career back on track and it's a decision we both came up with."

As for reports that had Hilton say he dumped Goodrem because she was "boring", Philippoussis said he had spoken with the heiress and she denied making the comment. "There's one thing Delta is not and certainly she's not boring," he said. "A lot of things have come out that's hurtful because I'm not that type of guy at all."

REMIND us not to get into Holly Valance's bad books.

The Aussie songstress, who's currently filming Pledge in the US, is raging about reports claiming she set up co-star Paris Hilton on a date with Delta Goodrem's estranged boyfriend Mark Philippoussis.

"To claim that I helped organise a meeting between Mark and Paris is an absolute outrage," she fumes. "It sickens and disgusts me that Delta has to suffer."

That clears that up, then.

PHILIPPOUSSIS COMES CLEAN OVER GOODREM BREAK-UP

Australian tennis star Mark Philippoussis has angrily denied reports he dumped pop beauty Delta Goodrem for socialite Paris Hilton.

The sportsman, 27, has been linked to the hotel heiress, 23, after he and Goodrem ended their 10-month relationship earlier this month.

After much press speculation, Philippoussis called Sydney radio station 2GB to set the record straight, saying, "There was no other woman in my life. The only other women in my life were my mother, my sister and my goddaughter.

"The last thing I want to do is jump into another relationship."

Hilton reportedly declared to fans in a department store over the weekend that she was "head over heels" with the Aussie hunk, saying Philippoussis had split with Goodrem because she was "boring."

He explains, "There's one thing Delta is not and certainly she's not boring. A lot of things have come out that's hurtful because I'm not that type of guy at all.

"Delta and I had something special and unfortunately it didn't work out and now it's just making everything feel like it's all rubbish.

"We realized things were tough. We're both young, she's just starting her career. She's going to get bigger and bigger and I need to get my career back on track and it's a decision we both came up with."

I thought was a bit strange when I first heard it. Holly and Delta worked toegther for ages on Neighbours and I had thought they were friends. Holly looks like a bit of a mean girl, but I think that is more image than any actual meanness on her part. I didn't think she would hook Mark and Paris up just days after he broke up with Delta.

He was number 16 when he first started dating Delta and now he's number 106. You can safely say that dating her wasn't good for his career.

Delta speaks out

Split ... Delta and Scud earlier this year.

BROKEN-hearted songbird Delta Goodrem has broken her silence about the end of her relationship with tennis star Mark Philippoussis.

The 19-year-old has finally confirmed the split to her fans, who have castigated his behaviour on her website's forum.

"Mark and I are no longer together and I wish him all the best," Goodrem told her fans last night.

"I'm now looking forward to concentrating on my music and releasing my new album."

Goodrem hopes her statement will return focus to her music career as she prepares to launch her No.1 single, Out Of The Blue, in the UK. She also finished shooting a video with her Irish duet partner Brian McFadden in London yesterday.

Goodrem looked happy and relaxed on the set during the two-day shoot but postponed some media commitments to avoid questions about the Scud's new relationship with heiress Paris Hilton.

The Scud Muffin is claiming he is concentrating on resurrecting his ailing tennis career and the "last thing" on his mind is a new romance.

But his actions are telling a different story. After finishing his training with US tennis great John McEnroe, he's hitting the bars with Team Paris.

New York correspondent Anna **** was witness to one of their outings, during which the couple were tucked away in the VIP room of the Chelsea district nightclub Marquee.

Surrounded by a large group of friends and the helpers and hangers-on that follow Hilton, she and Philippoussis were spied at a table where the Australian rested against a wall while his famous friend chatted in his ear.

And while The Poo did not appear to be particularly enjoying himself, looking sullen for much of the night, it was clearly a bad night for Hilton, who threw a hissy fit, for reasons unknown, as soon as she arrived.

Does she need a reason? She's a walking hissy fit.

Delta: Why I still sing for Scud

POP sensation Delta Goodrem has promised to continue singing her new hit single, Out Of The Blue, which honours Mark Philippoussis, the tennis player who broke her heart.

"Most definitely," Goodrem told the Sunday Herald Sun from London. "It's my song. I think songs have their initial thought, but then they take on a whole new meaning."
Goodrem, who split with Philippoussis before the recent ARIA Awards, turns 20 this month.

She said: "Lately, I've been so excited. I'd forgotten what it's like to have this much energy."

Out Of The Blue's lyrics include: You give me love that I can't disguise/There will be times when we're apart/I want you to know you're in my heart/Growing into a beautiful garden.

Goodrem's second album, Mistaken Identity, is released tomorrow, and Out Of The Blue is only one of the tracks bound to set tongues wagging. Others include You Are My Rock (written about her brother, Trent, and AFL player Jude Bolton), Extraordinary Day, The Analyst and Last Night On Earth.

"I will never stop being honest. I can't sing a song that doesn't mean anything to me," she said.

On the album's best song, the Tori Amos-flavoured title track, Goodrem sings: The girl I used to be/Has a terrible case of mistaken identity.

"It's the centre of the album for me: the literal lyrics, the madness of the key changes, the colour of it is so me," Goodrem said.

"For me, the mistaken identity was when I started to lose my identity as a person. Not just physically, because of (losing) my hair, and my change in appearance, but inside I started to think differently about all these feelings I'd never processed before. I wanted to bring myself out again as a new, strong person with a sense of self."

Of her performance at the ARIAs, Goodrem said: "I was a little too nervous and definitely look forward to doing a better show next time."

Perhaps alluding to the split with Philippoussis, which occurred during rehearsals for the ARIAs, she added: "There was a lot going on at that time, so I just (wanted) hopefully to get through it.

"There is that inner struggle (between) ambition and making sure there's a balance," she said. "It's been a really slow process for me. I didn't just jump back into work, although it might seem that way.

"It's like anybody who goes through cancer treatment; it's a gradual thing and you slowly build up. I'm still being careful with my time to make sure I get the amount of sleep I need."
