| A Song For You is practically my all-time favorite song. Very soulful, Donny Hathaway's voice is remarkably rich and smooth, and the piano solos are beautiful. Herbie Hancock is a tremendous jazz pianist, so I'm sure he can do the song justice. He did a collaboration with Take 6 and Stevie Wonder years ago for a song called Why I Feel This Way, which is one of my top 5 Take 6 songs.
I had heard that they were remaking the song, and I was both interested, and a bit scared. Christina has a tendency to overdo it when it comes to 'vocal gymnastics'. This is a song that's meant to be sung with held notes, and less vocal runs than most of Christina's songs. I think that if Christina can hold herself back a bit, then she could do an outstanding job with the song, but I'm a bit scared that she's not yet ready to be 'tamed', and she might spoil the song for me. I HATE it when classics are ruined by new artists who cover the original song and wreck it. I hope that didn't happen with this song... | |
