Ashton's Art Imitates Life

Ashton Kutcher's latest project is a lot like life--his own, that is.

The Punk'd purveyor is producing a sitcom pilot for Fox titled 30-Year-Old Grandpa about a younger man who marries an older woman and becomes the stepfather to her children, who are close to his own age.

Kutcher, 27, obviously has some firsthand experience with the subject matter. Last month, the That '70s Show star wed erstwhile Brat Packer Demi Moore, 42, and assumed the role of stepfather to Moore's children from her marriage to Bruce Willis: Rumer, 17; Scout, 14; and Tallulah, 11.

The newlywed actor is set to executive produce Grandpa along with his Katalyst Television partners Adam Goldberg and Karey Burke. A Fox rep says it has not yet been determined whether Kutcher would star. The pilot has yet to be cast.

Though the basis for the sitcom bears similarities to Kutcher's real-life relationship, the plot is not based on his and Moore's coupling.

Rather than a Hollywood setting, Grandpa will be set in Chicago. The titular 30-year-old is a club owner who marries a successful businesswoman in her 40s. Shortly after they marry, they learn they are expecting a child together.

At the same time, the woman's unmarried 22-year-old daughter from a prior relationship announces she is pregnant and is moving home to raise the child. (We're guessing hilarity ensues.)

"It started out as an idea about a mother and daughter having kids at the same time," Burke told Variety. "It then dawned on us that the guy's point of view on this was the comedy hook."

In addition to picking up Grandpa, Fox also made a pilot commitment to a reality show from Katalyst dubbed Parenteen. The series will focus on the same parenting issues seen in Supernanny, but with an emphasis on the difficulties found in parent-teen relationships.

"It's a handbook for both parents and teens [to help] navigate those difficult years," Burke told Variety.

Sounds like something to which Kutcher may want to refer.

In between producing and settling into life as a married man, Kutcher has set aside some time for his onscreen pursuits.

He's lending his voice to the upcoming 'toon Open Season and stars opposite Kevin Costner in the horror flick The Guardian. Both films are slated for release in 2006.

Didn't Steve Martin do a movie back in the 90's about a guy who's wife and daughter give birth at the same time?
