. the same dude. I wonder how that is possible. Different hair cut is all.

the only thing I can think of, other than he is a Dharma spy controlling things,

is that Hurley, after winning the lottery, bought the box company, and somehow, Hurley thought it would be a sweet revenge to have his old boss working for him now.

So he gave him a job.

It's a stretch....

the worst would be to act nice to them, after they treated you badly,

pay them well, treat them with respect.

It would shame them.

Do we know the timeline of the two jobs? Like which came first? How long ago did Hurley win the lotto when he quit the job? And Locke was already talking about that expedition he wanted to take when this jerk made fun of him.

Locke's flashback (the box company part with the boss) was nearer in the past than Hurleys, because he was getting ready for the walkabout, the reason he came to Austraila.

Hurley's is further away in the past, because he won the money, then got the company's, then got the big house, then had time to get investment money back from the companys, (they do that in quarters of a year),

and had time to see the numbers were cursed, and then later did his trip to Austrailia to find the man who repeated them to the insane man that Hurley got them from.

Hurley went to his Lawyer guy, and the guy told him one of his company got hit by a meteor or got burned down, I don't remember, but the lawyer said Hurley made money off of it.

Hurley lottery winnings are invested in companys and they make him more and more money from the investment.

KEN HALPERIN (ACCOUNTANT): (v.o.) Every one of your stocks is up.

[INT. BUSINESS OFFICE - DAY - FLASHBACK]

(Camera moves from the tall office buildings outside and rests on Hurley looking
out of the office window. He's meeting with his accountant, but he looks less
than thrilled, dark thoughts occupies his mind.)

KEN HALPERIN (ACCOUNTANT): Your interest in orange futures skyrocketed after
those tropical storms hit Florida, and you are now the majority shareholder for
a box company in Tustin.

(Hurley turns and looks at his accountant.)

HURLEY: A box company?

KEN HALPERIN (ACCOUNTANT): Mm-hmm. They make boxes. Lucrative business.
Everybody needs boxes. Which reminds me -- your sneaker factory in Canada --

HURLEY: I have a sneaker factory in Canada?

KEN HALPERIN (ACCOUNTANT): Well, not anymore. It was destroyed in a fire last
month.

(Hurley sits down.)

HURLEY: Of course it was.

KEN HALPERIN (ACCOUNTANT): You might have read about it. Eight-something
people died. But the good news is we over-insured it. It's going to yield you
a windfall of cash. And when we add in the generous settlement from the LAPD
for your false arrest, you've almost doubled your net worth in a few short
months.

I think that since there are different writers for every segment of this "Series" that each new group of writers are given free rein to write anything they feel like writing and none of this makes any sense whatsoever.

man, there are so many connections...
All I'm saying is, they better tie EVERYTHING at the end, at some point.

And if someone wakes up and it was all a dream (a la bob newhart) i'm gonna smack JJ Abrams in the face with his shoe for each episode of Lost I saw... INCLUDING reruns.
