Driven by a need for privacy and a deep-seated sense of humility, Alvar Hanso has released few details of his personal life to the public.

He first made his mark during the Second World War, providing munitions to various resistance movements around Europe. After the War, Hanso became the leading purveyor of high-technology armaments to NATO.

After decades of keeping the world safe through the development of sophisticated weapons systems, Hanso turned his attention to critical areas of science and technology - always searching for new ways to improve the human experience, and create a brighter future for all humanity.

Still running his vast network of companies, Hanso has set new standards for philanthropy and the support of pure scientific research for the betterment of the entire race.

quote:
The Hanso Foundation stands at the vanguard of social and scientific research for the advancement of the human race. For forty years, the foundation has offered grants to worthy experiments designed to further the evolution of the human race and provide technological solutions to the most pressing problems of our time.
The Hanso Foundation: a commitment to encouraging excellence in science and technology and furthering the cause of human development.

The Foundation's Research
The Hanso Foundation has several active projects being pursued at this time:

The Active Projects

The Hanso Life Extension Project

The Hanso Electromagnetic Research Initiative

The Hanso Quest for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence

The Hanso Mathematical Forecasting Initiative

The Hanso Cryogenics Development Imperative

The Hanso Juxtapositional Eugenics Development Institute

The Hanso Accelerated Remote Viewing Training Facility

Along with these projects, the Orientation film suggests other areas of study include:

Meteorology
Zoology
Psychology
Parapsychology

Website Info
The website, http://www.thehansofoundation.org, is owned by ABC, the creators of Lost, as evidenced by the terms of use link on the foundation's website. [2] The domain was registered by ABC on July 18, 2005.

Most of the links on the site lead to a page stating "ACCESS DENIED", but a hidden link on the site leads to a page containing the orientation film seen in the episode "Orientation".

In addition, by adding an "s" to the end of "http", ala, [3] leads you to an encryted website containing a solitary webpage, [4]. Typing this into a browser leads to a site that seems to be updated periodically. The contents of the site have included:

Dot on polar bears1. A mouse on a block of cheese. In the background, a man can be heard singing "Here comes Peter Cottontail" while a squeaky voice, assumedly imitating a mouse, can be heard saying "Calling all rodents" in some sort of propaganda speech. The recording is taken from a numbers station (detailed here [5]).

2. The image of two polar bears, mirror images of each other, that criss-cross the screen. When they meet, an image of a red dot appears for a moment. Within the red dot are the numbers "2fen06".

3. A two-color stereoscopic image of a gas mask accompanied by reversed? sped-up? music.

The title the bigspaceship1.com web page is ".- .-.. --- -. --. - .. -- . .- --. --- --..-- --- -. .- -. .. ... .-.. .- -. -.. ..-. .- .-. ..-. .- .-. .- .-- .- -.--" When translated from Morse Code it reads "ALONGTIMEAGO,ONANISLANDFARFARAWAY"
which also appears to change and has also been "... --- -- . - .. -- . ... / .- / .--. --- .-.. .- .-. / .--. . .- .-. / .. ... / .--- ..- ... - / .- / .--. --- .-.. .- .-. / -... . .- .-." or "SOMETIMES A POLAR PEAR IS JUST A POLAR BEAR" (is the misspelling intentional?), . .- .-. ...- .. -.-. / ..-. --- .-. / .-.. .. ..-. . ("NARVIC FOR LIFE") and -. .- .-. ...- -.- / ..-. --- .-. / .-.. .... ("NARVK FOR LH")

[edit]
Trivia
In Japanese, "hanso" denotes a counteraction or counterclaim.
"HANSO" is an anagram of "NOAHS", as well as, "SHONA".
In the clip, the city hall in Narvik, Norway can be seen.

Most information about the Dharma Initiative comes from an orientation training film that has been noticeably cut or damaged in places; it has a copyright date of 1980 and is designated the third of six such films.

The Dharma Initiative, developed in 1970 by University of Michigan doctoral candidates Gerald and Karen DeGroot and financed through The Hanso Foundation, was intended to study the nuances of human behavior in their sociological and ecological contexts through a communal social sciences research compound. The project's areas of study included meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, zoology and electromagnetism. B.F. Skinner, an American psychologist, is mentioned as an influence on the DeGroots' work. Skinner authored the book, Walden Two.

The orientation film focuses on Station Three of the Initiative (aka "the Swan"), originally built as a laboratory to study the unique electromagnetic fluctuations emanating from Station 3's area of the island. An unspecified "incident" early in the station's experiments resulted in a change of focus: A two-member crew, replaced every 540 days, is now under orders to enter the code 4 8 15 16 23 42 into a microcomputer terminal every 108 minutes. The film stresses the importance of adhering to the procedure by entering the code quickly and accurately, but gives no reason or potential consequences.

Walden Two

quote:
Synopsis
B.F. Skinner presents a fictional outline of a modern utopia in which human problems are solved by a scientific technology of human conduct. This book serves as a possible example of how our knowledge of human behavior can be used to create a productive social environment while preserving the chances of future generations to do the same.

I'm surprised Heck! doesn't like it, it's very Matrix like in it's background minutia.

Last season's episodes felt annoyingly slow. Maybe that took all the air out of HECK's enthusiasm for the show. At least this season things are picking up in terms of pace. The two episodes I've seen this season are much more exciting and interesting than last year. If HECK reads this, I think he should catch a couple episodes this year, and maybe rent last season's DVD's to see how things led up to this point. I'm probably gonna rent last season for just that reason.

Make sure that you do rent it, Sierradaddy... my friend loaned me her season one dvds, and I'm currently through the first 8. Already, the first few from this new season, make more sense, from what I've just watched.

The Hanso Foundation web site was dropped again in a commercial toward the latter part of this week's episode.

I've been visiting the site and found a great deal of hidden material. I suggest you start the adventure here:

http://www.sublymonal.com

Was anyone able to find anything? Let me know... I might be able to help.

The main thing that caught my eye, was the date on the pic of Alvar. 2003, instead of the late 70's.

Also, the monkey or ape that was over a hundred years old from the age experiments. That's a really well done website, neat to look at. I didn't get to far into it.

Okay... here's what I said, in a thread that I started today, regarding Lost website puzzles. From going to the Hanso website, this was some thoughts, and the date on the pic got my attention too.

I'm STILL thinking, for some damn reason that Alvar Hanso is the same guy who is Locke's "father" in the flashbacks. It just looks like him. I've thought that since I first saw him, and I still think that. Anyone else? Also, in the picture of him, it says that it was taken in Oct 2003... yet, his bio said that he "made his mark" during WWII. He doesn't look THAT old, in 2003, to have been around during that era.

quote:
http://www.inreview.com/showthread....=907#post654007

Okay... on the Hanso website, under "Joop's Corner" there is a message, in the top right corner. It's got a picture of a strand of dna. The message is about the lifespan of chimps, and that their (Hanso) Life-Extension Program will someday help human beings achieve unusual life spans beyond the current norm.

Soooooo, maybe they HAVE achieved this, to some extent! Alvar doesn't look THAT old, so I'm thinking that they've found something that works.

I think Alvar looks like Leslie Nielson from the Naked Guns movies. (and Forbidden Planet)

I dunno, it could be Jacks dad, but I'm guessing not.

If that's Jack's dad, I would be shocked. It just doesn't look like him, to me. It really looks like Locke's dad to me.

Oh, you said Locke's dad. I messed up, thought you said Jacks dad.

I dunno, Locke's dad is fattish. He was the guy who used to be on Emergency 51 when I was kid. That Alvar guy seems thin.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

He doesn't look that thin. But, remember that we don't know how far back the flashbacks were... and how much time is between them, and the picture of Alvar in 2003. He could have gained/lost weight.

Your supposed to call the phone number 1-877-HANSORG (I think) - to get the password. I can't recall what it is off the top of my head.

Ah - it came back to me... a woman in one of the prompts at that number yells out the password: breaking strain

Now poke around the site and see what you can find.

Okay, I put that in, and persephone starts "typing" and asks for the password. I tried 'heir apparent' and then 'breaking strain' Both times, it takes me back out to the main sign in. Hmmmmmmmm....

I did the password, and the monkey went crazy for a little bit, then put me back to home page, I then sent a message to joop, and it sent me to a telescope version of a letter. I saved part of it in paint, not the whole thing.

It looks to me, like a watchdog agency is mad at hanso group for doing gene therapy on animals for the age research, and there is an outbreak of sickness with africans dying as a result of ape to man transmission.

This is neato, because if you read the threads from last season, we had a breakdown of the comic book that was in spanish, and it mentioned gene therapy and monkies. I should go find that one section and post it here as well.

So we come full circle back to gene therapy, and apes. I think that's neat.

and yes, I know monkies and apes are different, but to me they is all the same.

Awesome, Dave

Like I said, they are really trying to get people to live longer than the average norm in age. So, they are testing it out on apes. I wonder what else they are testing on them.

I found the partial translation we had of what the comic said from last year. We didn't get it all, but most of it.

If I remember, ests is a english word for gene therapy related stuff, but ests might also be a spanish word for something common, like there or it. Don't remember.

Maybe what happened on the Island. They all got into age defying gentetic stuff, and got sick. And they shoot up with junk to keep them from dying.

Or they shoot up to keep young and to not age. If they don't shoot up, they get old and die.

Crazy, cause this next episode, they show Mike getting a shot. And Claire was getting them too.

I have heard people talk about the guy who took juliet to the island, how he looks like he hasn't aged. In season 3 you notice he talks to ben as a young kid about talking over the rest of the dharma intiative people on the island. Maybe they just did a bad job on trying to make him look older from back when he talked to ben as a child. I guess its a dumb thought since there talking about increasing your age limit, not making you stay the same age. Just a thought as to why it seems that way.

Wow whidden you made a good point i didn't read all of your last post about how they might shoot up to stay young. You could be right there. Thats why that guy looks the same as he did some 20 odd years ago. The reason i say 20 odd years ago is because ben looked like he was 10 when they showed him as a boy. He's probably in his 30's now?? Which makes me think if that guy was in his 30's when he met ben, and 20 years have passed, that would make him in his 50's. Sorry cant remember his name i hope you all know who im talking about. But my point is and it may be out there, he doesn't look 50 something to me. I hope i end up being right about this later.
