| Posted by: Ollie23 | | Abolutely not. Snakes are an unpredictable pet that you never know when/if they are going to turn on their owner or whomever is handling them. I think they are dangerous and shouldn't be allowed as pets, most cetainly the ones that grow to be that large. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | Honestly, I am phobic of snakes. I can't stand to be around ones in cages. Anything that can strangle the owner is too large and too dangerous to be a pet. | | Reply To this Message

I used to hike in dense brush and was always on the lookout for snakes. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | I grew up in Crest. It is a small community in San Diego County. It is where the fire was in 2003. Crest is mostly hills and canyons. There are rattlesnakes all over the place. My dad had a stein that he put the rattles in of the snakes he killed just on our patio. He must have had over a dozen in there. I hate snakes. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Pippin | | I like snakes. There used to be a lot of baby snakes around our house in the spring and summer. They were so cute! They didn't have their fangs yet, so my brother and I would put our fingers out and they would try to bite us but they'd just be hanging on by their gums It was adorable. Of course, we'd never stick our fingers out to snakes that had fangs. Those things hurt, I'm betting. I haven't seen baby snakes by our house in a long long time, though. I think our cats get them My brother and I also like to catch garter snakes and pick them up by the tail and have a look at them.
13 feet or longer snakes I think people should be able to have, so long as they have to read a thingie on how to properly keep and secure the snake when they buy the animal. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: lodgebo | | I think snakes are beautiful creatures and mainly because of relgion they get a terrible rep, I have never encountred rettlers but I have seen a few adders ( Vipers ) in the north of Scotland and give them plenty of room.
But as far as keeping big snakes go that is just wrong you cannot domesticate snakes, these creatures need to be in the wild soing what snakes do, you can have the biggest tanks in the world but it cannot compensate for snakes natural habitat. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: flying panda | | if you use the argument that snakes acan turn on there owners then should we also stop people haveing large dogs? should people not have rats because they could carry the plauge?
if the owners want to take the risk of being strangled or bitten by the snake should be allowed to have it ... but i think the larger ones should be licenced | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: fuscia | | you can not train snakes. They do escape from their cages from time to time. It is not fair to the neighbors to house a dangerous animal. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | I think you need to have some people who own snakes at least as a conservation-type excercise. You need to breed snakes to have captive breeding programs and venom collection to make anti-venom and stuff, but it should all be licensed to keep everyone safe and keep track of the dangerous animals, which snakes certainly are. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: lodgebo | | As far as venom collection goes you don't need to keep snakes for that purpose, nowadays snake specialists tend to go out in to the wild find the snakes and milk them there and then it is just as effective as keeping snakes in those little containers which in my view is downright cruel.
I think when talking about snakes a lot of people talk abouth thier right to be safe from these reptiles which is perfectly rational but you rarely get people who remember that the snakes have rights as well with the main right being the right to live free and the right to exsist. Something which they were doing long before we were around. | | Reply To this Message
