Who Will Fill The Void?

With Destiny's Child officially split, who can be the big girl-group from now on? There aren't really any girl groups out there anymore, there were a few in the UK, but most of them have split up now as well.

How are TLC going with their auditions? Can they fill the DC void?

I think the TLC deal is just a one-song thing. They'll have a star-search TV show followed by a greatest hits album with one new song on it. That was it.

I don't think Destiny's Child being out of action will necessary cause a void though I just hope no one tries to take over from them, because the girl groups I've been hearing lately are becoming more and more bland...

If a girl-group emerges, it will probably be a new group. After DC, I can't even THINK of another girl group...

TLC aren't the same as DC. None of them can really sing. Chili is the best singer out of the two remaining girls, but Chili is nowhere NEAR the caliber of singer that Beyonce is, Kelly (although Kelly sometimes can't hit the right notes...), or even Michelle for that matter (I personally don't like how Michelle's voice sounds, but she's a better singer than anyone in TLC).

DC has left a void, but since they gradually came to this point, and the world knew and had time to adjust to them disbanding, I don't think it's that bad. We'll all still be seeing Beyonce around. Kelly might do a little something for awhile too. Michelle, in my opinion, will have the hardest time continuing in her career. She's cute, but in an awkward way. She is a stiff dancer, and she doesn't seem like she's into the spotlight. She's rather easy-going, which for her and the level of talent she has, is not a good thing. She needs more personality, in my opinion, to have a good shot at a longer career...

Anywho, I'm hoping that whoever fills the void is musically gifted, responsible, sexy, and respectable. I can't stand the crap that's been coming out lately...

Michelle will probably release more gospel albums. It's what she's good at, and not all that much dancing involved I actually thought her voice was amazing on the DC last album. She really stood out, filling in the gaps of songs like "Love".

I know what you mean about TLC not really being great vocalists... I actually really enjoy listening to T-Boz sing though. That rough, rugged, huskiness is what I love to hear in a woman's voice.

I heard Xscape are coming out with a new album later in the year, I hope they can get the popularity that Destiny's Child got... they were always my favorite girl group of the 90's. I think their problem is they just don't conform with the "sexy appearance" requirement of popular music.

Didn't Snoop or some rapper put together a girl group? Dreams?
What happened to them?

You mean Doggy's Angels?

I believe the correct way of saying it is... umm... "commercial failure"

No I am thinking of Puff dady's group, not Snoop, sorry.
Dreams were Puffy group, they had a song called "He Loves You Not" in 2002, but I never heard of them again afterwards. But just because we don't hear of them in Australia anymore, doesn't mean they're not still going in the US. Are they still going?

Oh dear no, they're dead and gone.

And the world is a better place for it.

I'd rather listen to All Saints than that group, really

*shivers just remembering it*

All Saints broke up and the Appleton sisters tried to make a new group but even that didn't work. The UK produces some great girls groups, Girls Aloud, Atomic Kitten, Spice Girls, Sugababes, etc but they can never stay together for very long. Even theior female/male/mixed groups like Big Brovas and Liberty X didn't stay together very long, maybe it's a UK thing?

It's just that with a group no one gets to be the star and I think everyone really wants to be a star in their own right these days, so no one is content in a band. They all try and have solo careers which bomb miserably (ala Kelly Rowland) and when the band splits up because everyone got too up themselves, they have no career at all.

I would rather be a lesser-known singer in a group than an unemplyed former has-been girl-grouper trying to forge a solo career. Can't you just see Michelle Williams in ten years on a "Where are they now" show? With DC she could have fame for maybe five more years, but without DC, she'll be a has-been in two weeks. It's sad.

I have a deep hatred for Atomic Kitten. A couple of years ago "Someone Like Me" (i think that was the song) was played over and over again. It was the dumbest song in existance! I mean, I seriously could have written that song without even thinking about it... I don't understand the fascination with it! BLEH!

Owe, why is everyone so down on Michelle Williams? Her gospel career took off, and she had two albums in the time Beyonce had one. Granted, she didn't have the same amount of exposure or popularity Beyonce had, but she is a great gospel artists. Regardless of her being with DC or not, she'll always have a career in music, that's a given. There's actually an unreleased track with her, R. Kelly and Syleena Johnson called Testimony. I seriously want to hear it! I can imagine her and Syleena Johnson singing together... must be quite a contrast in their voices, it'd be awesome.

I didn't realize Kelly Rowland's solo stuff bombed. It was played quite a bit here... I liked a few of her songs... I hope she'll team up with better producers in future though.

Yeah Atomic Kitten sucked but Sugababes and Girls Aloud were good!

I know Michelle had a great gospel solo album, but can you name even one person you know who has heard the album let alone purchased it? I can't. She could be the top selling gospel artist in history and she'd not be as famous (or rich for that matter) as she could be being 1/3 of DC. It's not right, but that's how it is.

Kelly's album didn't really "bomb" but I can't even remember the name of her album. I know her song with Nelly did really well (number 1 or 2 in teh charts), but Train on a Track and Stole were aired maybe twice here and that was all we heard from her. I really liked what I heard of her album, but it just didn't take off, the anticipation for Beyonce's album killed it or seomthing. It may have worked better for Kelly if she had waited longer to let the Beyone hype die down? I don't know....

I think though that with Dangersouly In Love and Destiny Fulfuilled being such big hits and having such good songs on them both, that Beyonce will have a lot to live up to with her second solo album. I hope she can do something that's just as big so that at least one of them still has a career after DC split.

Hey! I bought both of Michelle's albums I'm one person!!!! I swear I am...

Hmm... you're probably right about Kelly... though Stole was pretty big here... one of the top songs for that year, I'm sure (I mean in the top 10, not top 5 or anything...)

I think Beyonce has a lot to live up to... I'm sure she'll do alright though, she has all the buzz behind her. I get sick of her voice after listening to an entire album though... that's why I like the Destiny Child albums more than any one of their solo albums... just when you get sick of one voice, another takes over

OK then I DO know one person who bought them. But you're the only one. Most people I know don't even know that she did those albums. Are you into religious music in general gabo? Or just Michelle?

I think you're right about Beyonce's voice, it needs filler. We have a girl on Australian Idol att he moment who sounds just like Beyonce and did Independant Woman as one of her songs, it sounded just like her it was uncanny, but oen of the thoughts that popped into my head was that I didn't know if I could stomach a whole album of just this girl singing. Same with Beyonce.

She should think about doing what J-Lo did with her album where she did like that remix album with the Ja Rule songs on it. Someone else in there so it's not all Beyonces wailing. I guess she would have Kelly & Michelle as special guests on her new album? But then whats the point? Might as well make another DC album.

She could possibly have them as special guests. I don't think she did that for her first one, but Michelle's first album had a track with them all together on it.

I only sometimes watch those idol, superstar, rockstar shows to see who's the worst singer. I didn't miss an episode of Rockstar INXS though. I was rooting for Mig, even though I knew he wouldn't get it in the end.

Umm... I have a lot of religious music. The Winans (CeCe, BeBe, Mike, Mario, Mom and Pop, all of them), Kim Burrell, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Take 6, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, Winans Phase II, Yolanda Adams, Commissioned, Beverly Crawford, Sounds of Blackness, Kirk Whalum... well, lots I can't think of right now. I dunno, I like the songs and the vocalists. Thought me buying these albums would make more sense if I actually believed in God, aye?

Kelly's album didn't do as well as projected, but it was still a solid album. I heard Stole so much I was getting angry...

Michelle had one popular song that really stood out on her first album, and I'll aggressively submit that if she hadn't been known as part of DC, her album, and that song, would've never seen the light of day in terms of airplay and exposure. Not trying to be mean, but I know that she was chosen as the replacement member because she didn't have a personality that would outshine the two founding members, her voice couldn't top either of them, and her creativity wasn't as strong as Beyonce's. She was meant to be 'adequate'.

Gabo, I have much of the same music you've got. I went to college in Alabama, and attended the church where Joey Kibble of Take 6 was associate pastor. Along with his singing talent, he's a very strong preacher too. And he married the lead singer for another gospel group you might have heard of: Virtue. I never knew the lead singer, though I met her once. I did know her younger sister Heather though, as we were attending the same college before she joined the group. Kim Burrell, Commissioned, and anything that has the stamp of Fred Hammond (Commissioned, Radical For Christ, etc) are at the top of my favorites list for gospel music. Beyonce said herself that she's blown away by Kim Burrell, and called her one of the greatest singers of today.
