| Before I start, feel free to pm email or start a new thread in forums, but please tell me about it so I can defend my position. I have put my thoughts on philosophy, terrorism, and Iraq all in one here, I will expand on any of the topics here.
I do not believe humanity or people are either simply good or bad. They are rather, by nature, interested in self fulfillment and self enrichment above all else. They will act according to how they see themselves making a personal gain, saying this, there is no such thing as a selfless act. Every act or decision a human makes is based on which option would be better for themselves.
Terrorism is such. From the time these men are kids, they are brought up hating everything we stand for. Learning of jihad, which to them, is a free ride to paradise. It is no wonder then, that they are so willing to kill themselves in their holy war against innocent people. They see choices, wait until judgment day where their God will weigh their good and bad and decide if they are going to paradise, or kill themselves while murdering the “infidels” and have a free ride to their paradise.
We, in fighting the war on terrorism, are fighting more than suicide bombers, we are fighting an ideology, but much more, the driving force in the human mind. That is why this was is such a hard war to win. It takes time, good examples, and consistency. We are setting the examples in Afghanistan, where they had their elections with women voting despite terrorism. That is how terrorism is beat. When the terrorists no longer see their fight as a jihad, when they are shunned by their own people, which is happening now, they will have no reason to fight.
For that reason, Iraq is crucial to our success in this war against terrorism. Democracy might not be right for Iraq, but it isn't our job to tell them that it is or that it isn't. We have given them choices that enslaved people around the world would and are killing for. We are setting an example for the rest of the world, that a government self ruled, regardless or the type of government is a better option for the people. For the first time in years, Iraqi's are choosing their own leaders. It was such before Saddam took over, when Iraq was prospering. Free government works, time after time. In Iraq, it is an extreme change, going from a murdering torturing dictator, to a elected leader, and Iraq is unfortunately getting resistance from foreign terrorists who don't care about the fact that the Iraqi's are appreciative of our actions, they are fighting the west. The west that they were taught to hate since they were kids.
This generation will never be able to finish the war on terrorism. Kids today born under dictators are being fed the same propaganda their fathers were. They haven't had the chance to see that democracy can do. They haven't seen what self elected leaders do for their people.
America is the longest lasting republic in the history of the world. During the American Revolution, other revolutions were started Latin America. When revolutions broke out in South America against Portugal and Spain, similar revolutions occurred in Asia and other places around the world.
We are showing the Middle East a better way of life. They will see a choice, of living under a dictating rule, or their own self dictated government, and as humans do, they will choose the best option for themselves. It will take time, but it will happen.
Because of this, war is our necessary evil. We are speaking for those who would be killed for speaking, fighting for those who can't fight.
