| I'm for the war 100%. 
Having said that, I don't know if we can make Democracy stick. Some people hunger and thirst for freedom,
they DO NOT take it for granted,
they would fight and die for it.
Others, they don't really care that much, they could live under a KING or a Dictator,
it don't matter, they don't care.
It may be how they were raised, it may be the culture, I don't know.
Maybe it's that they never had freedom, the freedom to vote for the leader,
the freedom to move at will to any city, (or state) you want, the freedom to go to any church you want,
the freedom to say what you want, without the government shutting you down.
Some want this badly, others would rather have health care and live in Cuba, where the secret police take you out if you speak up.
(talked with many Cubans down in Florida who got out, and told me how it is down there).
The thing is, I don't understand it myself, but I don't belittle it. If you want to live that way, under a Communist regime, or under a Dictator, or a King,
that's your right, you can do it if you want.
I don't see the war in Iraq as a device to give the Iraqi's democracy, though that seems to be a wonderful side benefit.
I saw it as a device to take out Saddam, who used WMD's in the past, and was developing them in the present. (at the time the war started.)
The anti war crowd, most of them, are thinking intelligent people, with good arguments against the war, but I don't subscribe to them myself.
Sure, we got a few blowhards, like Ted Kennedy, Jane Fonda, Donahue and even some peeps on this board, that are so against the war,
I think they want to spit on our troops when they come home, in the airport.
Harsh?
Maybe, but I respect most of the anti-war crowd, the ones that want us to lose however, got no respect for them.
And in the end, what does it matter if I respect them anyhow, I'm just a dude.
Just my opinion is all it is.
I also support the war, because it was unfinished business. George Herbert didn't finish the job the first time around, and it was because ***gasp*** he didn't want the international coalition to fall apart.
Back in 91, us repub's were the ones telling the demo's, we couldn't go all the way cause of the coalition.
Well, funny how things reversed, and when Dubya said "screw the U.N. and screw the coalition",
and went for it anyway, I let the damn collalition argument fall to the wayside, where it was picked up by the antiwar movement.
I think it took a lot of guts, for George to do that, and I respect it.
Old Dubya made an end run around the U.N., because they were incompetent in dealing with Saddam.
If they would have done their job, Dubya wouldn't have had to do anything. Saddam would have been under sanctions, until he allowed FULL inspections.
As it was, he listened to his buddies from France, Germany, China and Russia, who assured him, there would be no war, that they would stop it in the U.N.
(that's my theory only, I have no proof)
So, Saddam did what he wanted, and Dubya drew the line, and made it happen.
My bro, a Marine, did his part, and fought the major battles in the offensive.
Everyday, I watched the news, and everyday, the liberal press tried to make it look like we were losing, or in a quagmire.
Bull butter!
Our forces kicked some major ***, and it makes me proud.
But back to democracy. Sure, it's become the main reason for the war now, and that's fine, I don't care.
I hope it sticks, I'm an optimist. It would be nice to have a country over there that has true elections, and has true freedom.
If the Iraqi's want it, they can have it. We are giving it to them, on a silver platter.
And yeah, they got a bunch of dead, we got a bunch of dead. Silver Platter stained with blood.
Our troops gave their blood to remove a dictator, to make sure he didn't get WMD's,
and partly, to give them democracy.
If they keep it, fine. If they return, someday to a non-democratic form of government,
as long as it's peaceful,
I don't see it as a mission failure.
I do hope that when they get a taste of how it is to live in a free society, they will embrace it.
Not expecting them to love the states or nothing, but who would love an invading force?
I wouldn't.
Just so a madman like Saddam is not in charge, I consider that a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
