This fall, I'm going to study the ozone layer from various books. I have discovered that there are actual ways to stop the depletion of the ozone layer.

1.) Reduce the use of electricity
2.) Reduce the use carbon dioxide gas
3.) Reduce the use of fossil fuels

Reducing electricity will reduce the amount of fossil fuels used, as the factories consume fossil fuels to run ... factories also create CO2

Loging also doesnt help O3 (Ozone) as the trees make Oxygen which joins with the existing O3 to fill in the gaps ...

I think there should be more wind farms / solar panels to create power, but they only work if its windy or sunny.

Solar panels? What are they?

Solar panels are used for alternative/renewable energy sources. There are many environmentally friendly buildings and homes that only use solar panels as an alternative to electricity. Hopefully, in the near future, solar energy will become more affordable so all people can convert their homes from electricity to solar energy.

If you're interested in environmental issues, here's a thread on biodiversity.....

the problem with solar panels is that they only work where there is alot of light, so in England where there is sun about 0.1% of the year it wouldnt work so well

That is true Panda. They do work well for climates like Southern California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas.

Plant more trees for pity sakes!!!

Stop chopping down trees for paper! (Isn't that why we have hemp? Isn't that why we have computers? Why the necessary hard copy, all the freakin' time??)

Stop chopping down trees in the rainforests to make way for cattle farms and other stupid money making ventures, idiosos. Where do you think we get all the ingredients for medicines, eh, idiosos?

Oh yeah....leave fossil fuels in the ground and in the substrata of ocean bodies where they belong. Stinky fumes like that are bound to jack up the ozone!

Have metal furniture....metal computers...plastics need to go bye bye.
Put everything online.... plastic CD's no longer necessary.....
Put movies online....plastic DVD's no longer necessary.

Polyester clothes should have NEVER been invented! They don't breath like cotton, wool, or silk, or hemp, idiosos.

Pave the streets with gold...not oil based asphalt.

Live simply....grow your own food.

These are a few of my favorite things....

The key is doing whatever you can do. What some can do, others can't. So, whereas you may not be able to benefit from solar energy in England, composting, driving less, recycling (wet and Dry) materials, and doing whatever small or big thing that is within your power, will still be beneficial to the environment.

I do everything that is within my power. I am very passionate about environmental issues. A lot of the trouble people with these concerns face is that a lot of right-wingers don't believe global warming exists. Those of us, who aren't blinded by politics, recognize that global warming does, indeed, exist, and is in need of our attention.

I wrote this in another thread, but I think it can be used here, too.

quote:
Composting and recycling is the key to reducing the need for landfills. If every city made composting and recycling mandatory, not only would it reduce the need for landfills in the future, it would save money, create jobs, and require less fuel for trucking garbage long distances.

So, why hasn't every city already adopted these two very simple rules, plus emphasize the importance of, and institute the use of solar and alternative energy sources? Oh yes: because it would take nearly a decade for an average sized city to save billions of dollars and drastically reduce green house gas emissions and conserve natural, free land space. That doesn't exactly line the greedy pockets of politicians today

By the way, my name "idiosos" isn't intended for anyone on this board.
It's for the PTB's.

I think it was clear that your "idiosis" was not intended for anyone here.

I like the word so much, I've already called my roommate an "idiosis" this morning. He seemed to like it, too.

I have heard this rumor that as a logger chops down a percentage of trees, he is required by law to plant a percentage more of trees. It does not seem very likely that loggers do this, but I remember the protests in the mid 1980s about the chopping down of trees. Most Californians despised loggers because they felt that these uneducated people were threatening their way of life by building more homes and thus turning their neighborhoods into "ghettos".

They used to throw rocks and sticks at loggers as they drove to their work site. IT was brutal in California during the mid 1980s.
