Goblet gets a pg-13 rating |
| Posted by: fuscia | | A check of Filmratings.com, the website of the MPAA's Classification And Ratings Administration, reveals that the upcoming fourth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, has been given a PG-13 rating for "sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images." This will be the first of the Harry Potter films to not have the family-friendly PG rating.
There has been no word about whether or not Warner Brothers will try to edit the film so it can get a PG. I don't think they will do such a thing as it would probably alienate Potter fans, especially since it is well-known how dark Goblet Of Fire is. However, even with Pottermania at a high, making the jump from PG to PG-13 within a previously kid-friendly movie series is going to be tricky. The Harry Potter books are no longer just considered "kiddie" literature but what about the films? Will the moviegoing audience that has not read the books be able to accept an even darker, scarier Potter? Will there be outcry from parents regarding how this film won't be suitable for their younger children? Will there be enough of a teen and adult audience for the film to offset the potential decrease in children and family audiences? Is the Potter brand strong enough so that none of this will even matter? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: adityamahesh | | The books are growing with Harry and so should the films. If parents are going to be angry because their 8-9 year old can't see the movie, tough luck. Wait for the DVD. Personally I would rather have the films follow the books than have a bunch of people downgrade it because of some stupid rating. I think the Potter brand will survive a PG-13 rating, seeing that there are Potter fans in all age groups. A few days ago I heard a 60-65 year old man discussing with a 40-45 year old man about how he wishes the final book will have Harry torturing Voldemort for the most part of the book.

| Posted by: gaboman | | I can actually see them releasing two versions of the movie. PG and PG-13 version. It's not unheard of, and it would allow kids to go see it, while still letting the adults who love it see what they want to see: BLOOOOOOOOD! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Oliphaunt | | The thing is, a lot of the sixth book wasn't really suitable for young kids. It wasn't really bad, but they are growing up with the characters, so it's only to be expected that the ratings will go up. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: flying panda | | I feel the books have got darker, and more violent, not so say the first one wasnt, it had a double death. But if you are going to stick to the Books, the film makers have to keep some of that more Graphic (maybe not right word) or violence in it, otherwise people would start saying they didnt bring forward the feeling of the books ... and this sometimes means a different certification is needed | | Reply To this Message
