Book 6: HP & the Half-Blood Prince Forum

I have often wondered if Ginny put Harry under the love potion because he experienced several symptons of lovesickness under the love potion. Remember in the beginning of the book when they were in Fred and George's joke shop that Ginny picked up this potion. I remember the conversation.

Fred: There you go, best range of love potions you'll find anywhere.

Ginny: (raises an eyebrow) Do they work?

Fred: Certainly they work, for up to twenty-four hours at a time depending on the weight of the boy in question.

George: -And the attractiveness of the girl. But we're not selling them to our sister not when she's already got about five boys on the go from what we've--

later on Ginny: Mum, can I have a Pygmy Puff?

Hmmm, I don't think she did. I think that Harry admires Ginny's spirit. She is bold, she is brave, she is fun. It is natural that he noticed what so many boys have.

Didnt that attraction come up when they first met, or is that just Ginny?

It was just Ginny. Does anyone else see the similarity between Ginny and Lilly? Both have red hair, smart, powerful, and not afraid to speak their minds.

And Harry so much like James !!!

Yep. Ginny understands Harry and he her. I think this is the connection. If he lives, he will marry her.

We have already seen how Ron reacted to Romilda Vane's love potion and Harry didn't react like that. His attraction to Ginny is genuine.

But Vane's love potion was strong, and Ron scoffed them down, i think, he proberly got alot of the potion quickly, and the potion gets stronger over time, Slughorn said

I don't know... Harry was not completely obsessed over Ginny. He was perfectly able to concentrate on other things as well. And in the end, he was able to break up with her too.

Plus, Slughorn did say that the potion does not create genuine love, only a strong infatuation.

Thank you Fuscia, I wasn't in the Harry Potter forum until after I finished the book. (My user name hazel_dragoneye was inspired by Charlie Weasley and his dragons, his job is what I would want if I lived in the wizarding world so you can tell I'm a true Potter fan)

Anyway, Ginny has matured but she reminds me of Ron. I hope that the two get married because Ginny is protective of Harry which is obvious since she has known him since she was a very little girl.

And he also said it only lasted about 24 hours ... but when he was under the influence of the liquid luck potion he he had a voice telling him what to do, maybe the "animal" inside of him was what happens when your under the influence of a potion

Let us see if Potter survives. After that, I am sure those two will live happily ever after.

I don't know why it took you so long to join us though. We have had a huge Harry Potter forum since the board was created. That is how some of the major members arrived here (Fuscia, Kris, etc.).

I know, but i was comparing the love potion to the Felix Felicis, the same kind of effect, but having a different effect

We don't know what the drinker of love potion feels apart from obsession so I don't think we can compare the effects of the two.

I really doubt Harry was under the love potions, because Ginny would have to keep potioning his drinks every day. And Harry had feelings for Ginny even at the beginning of the year when Ginny's relationship with Dean was still pretty good. I don't see why she would have any reason to give Harry love potion when she was perfectly happy with Dean. Plus at the end of the book, Harry is comfortable with Ginny, he knows she will understand. There is more than just infactuation there, there is a deeper sense of connection between these two.

I don't think he was under the influence either, but that is a pretty nice observation about Ginny in the weasley weazes shop.

Anyone else notice the first time Harry sees Ginny after the first potions class he smells the same flowers that he smelled from the love potion.

yea i noticed that right away. It was when I figured out that they were going to end up together.

I also laughed at the fact that hermione smelled.. what was it? freshly mowed grass and new parchment i believe.. lol

I think she was embarassed about that, because only a muggle would smell the freshly cut grass... it's one of most people's favorite smells one of mine, at least.

She stopped after those two smells and blushed. I think the third smell had something to do with Ron.

Ginny didn't do anything to Harry. Remember at the end of the book, when they were talking about Ginny's crush on Harry, when she first met him, and her talks with Hermione, to move on, and date others, and allow Harry to see her as a different person? Well, that's what finally happened. He saw her with Dean, and saw Ginny in a new light, for the first time... because he's over his infactuation with Cho, and he's coming in to being an adult, and realizing certain things. His feelings for her are genuine. When he said to her at the funeral, that he couldn't imagine it being Ginny's funeral, and that he was the cause of her death. He's falling in love with her... and they are NOT over with yet. I see them being married, and having a family, down the road...

so you see Harry serviving the 7th book?

Of course I do... JKR isn't going to kill off Harry. She's invested TOO much in him.... and no matter what, she doesn't want millions of angry fans over Harry losing his life. Nope... I just don't see that happening.

No way JKR is killing Harry. I mean, hello, it's *Harry Potter* and the Philosopher's Stone, *Harry Potter* and the Chamber of Secrets...
About Harry and Ginny - in the end of the book, as Harry was saying Ginny that Voldemort might use her against him, and they should better break up, something else occurred to me. What if Voldemort finds out anyway that Harry loves Ginny (well he does, doesn't he?), and uses it against him? Dumbledore said to Voldemort not to "underestimate the power of love". So, Voldemort might go and not-underestimate it and use it for his own purposes - for example, making Harry give his life in return for Ginny's, therefore ensuring Voldemort's victory. Do you think that's possible? Or it's just too cheesy for a HP book?

That's really a GREAT point, Maja... never thought about that... and you're right. Voldemort will more than likely know that Harry had been dating Ginny... and he KNOWS that Harry is a part of the Weasley family. Therefore, I don't think that he would stop from doing whatever it takes to cause Harry to have to choose over something. *shrugs* Is it something that's too predictable, therefore, JKR wouldn't use it? Or, is it just the right thing? I'm just beyond trying to figure out what that woman is going to do.... she's come up with a great storyline.

I think we all agree it's no use in predicting what will JKR do next, because we NEVER get it right.. >:-) but anyway, we can discuss theories, theories are fun

One in a billon theroies have to be right though, we have to get it right eventually!

Well, if we just keep guessing and guessing... and guessing... and eat enough crazy mushrooms along the way ... maybe some day we'll come up with a plot JKR wouldr write

JKR loves Harry. She will not kill him. He may end up desperately hurt, and Ginny or her love will help him. There are just too many similarities between Harry/Ginny and James/ Lilly.

Totally, Sher... waaaaaaaay too many similarities. I never wanted to see this pairing happen... but, now that I have, I'm SOOOOO on board with a Harry/Ginny marriage!!!

I take it that you are Harry Ginny Shippers then (never understood why they called them shippers) (its also used for any of the other pairings)

I am NOW totally a Harry/Ginny 'shipper' It's a term for relationships... just a different way of saying things!!!!

I'm right there with you, Kris. I wasn't for them at all in the beginning, but by then end, I would have it no other way. The balance and support they provide for each other is amazing.

They recognize eah other's strengths and weaknesses. They're there for each other, no matter what and they love and care for one another so deeply that it's hard to imagine them NOT together.

Right... if they don't end up together by the end of book 7, I will be so in shock. I mean, after what we talked about at work, last week, and how I told you that I was sooooo wanting a Harry/Luna hook up... but book 6 completely changed that... you will definately see me, devestated, if they don't end up married, with at least one kid.

I have been a Harry/Ginny fan since book 2, for many reasons. For one, there's the Harry/Ginny James/Lily parallel. For another, I feel like any girl Harry ends up with will have to fit in with Ron and Hermione, and nobody does that better than Ginny. Also, I feel like any other girl Harry goes out with would always be a little starstruck from going out with "the Boy Who Lived." Ginny already went through that phase and got over it, and now sees Harry as a real person.

Soon he will be The Chosen One too. I wonder if people will want his autographs?

I was always in the Harry/ Ginny camp. I like the fact that Ginny has moxy. She is special, and she is over the whole "ooo it's a famous wizard thing.". I doubt that Harry sees the similarities between his parents and himself and Ginny. You have to wonder if Lupin will chuckle and smile when he hears of it.

I think Lupin would see the relation between Harry/ Ginny and James/Lily like, and that will make him smile i think
