Thread open to speculation on those that disappeared or were killed.

Why did Florean Fortescue disappear? What use was he to the Dark Lord?

Olivander- I think FP hit on it. Voldemort wants a wand that will not have the priori encanto effect when he fights Harry.

Amelia Bones. Why her? Was her first name REALLY Amelia or is Amelia her middle name?

Bones was the head of Magical Enforcement or something like that, so it would useful to kill someone like her, just for terror.

Ollivander - I have already stated my case. Voldemort wants to deny the World good wands as well as have him make more wands for the Death Eaters and himself.

Fortescue - His ice-cream is just too good. And he provided Potter with free sundaes. Time to take him out. But before that, I am sure Voldemort had Fortescue make him the most wonderful ice-cream ever. With the dark mark-shaped topping of course.

Florean made good ice cream. Voldemort could not handle his death eaters being lured by the sweetness, so he locked him up!

Florean was an expert on the Goblin wars wasn't he? So perhaps he thought that he would be able to help him find a way to get the goblins on his side.

The goblin connection may be possible, but Fortescue knew about history. We don't know if he had any connections with the present goblins as well.

Maybe Voldemort needed a history lesson.

Yea, or maybe he just wants to deprive the rest of the world of the good treats. Remember we don't know if these people were taken or if they fled. It could be very possible that many people picked up and left just like slughorn, to avoid being found.

The joke shop in Hogsmeade was boarded up as well ...

I agree, I think that the men fled. I also think that if death eaters had gotten a hold of them, that they would have just taken the information they wanted, and then killed them, leaving the bodies behind. I wonder if there was more to Amelia Bone's death.. and I wonder what the death eaters got from her.

Amelia Bones is a tough woman... she may have been tortured, but she never would've given anything up.

Ollivander is an interesting one though. M's got a point about denying the World wands, but there is also the fact that he made both Harry and Voldemort's wands... I'm not sure where to go with that fact, but it might mean something

They made mention that it appeared that Florean was drug off. Olivander was just gone. He is a pretty slick guy, he may have gone into hiding.

Olivander seems to be pretty powerful and knowledgable, I wonder if he will do anything for the order later? Or what he will be doing when he pops back up again...

R.A.B. I was just messing with everyone that maybe Ameilia had a first name that started with R.

It may have been. However, Amelia Bones was not a Death Eater (as far as we know -- and everyone thought she was fair -- at the time of Harry's hearing in Book 5 -- would a Death Eater ever be fair to Harry?), and only Death Eaters refer to Voldemort as Dark Lord.

Olivander- I was reading the book again last night, and I read the part where Dumbledore says to Draco that the order has hid people successfully before now. Could they be hiding Olivander?
