He also said she was blind, because the "vision centers of her brain were dead," and that her brain was about half of its expected size when she died 13 days following the feeding tube's removal.

Now that came as a shocker.

Guh, that's pretty frightening. This probably should have been done sooner. I'm sure her "anger centers" would have been plenty alive if she knew she was being used a political pawn.

Im a little surprised about her being blind, but not completely surprised. We already knew that all her responses were not based on fosucing on something.

I think many people owe Michael Schiavo an apology. The threats and the accusations he had to endure for years over this.

I was behind him in this whole mess, and I continue to be behind him.

quote:
Nevertheless, attorney David Gibbs III said Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, continue to believe she was not in a vegetative state and questioned the conclusion that she was blind...

The parents said the video that showed she was aware of her surroundings, but doctors said her reactions were automatic responses and not evidence of consciousness.

Funny how even though this information is now scientifically proven, her parents still dont believe it! What does it take to make these people see that she would never recover!

They would not accept it if the lord came down and told them it was true. They just want to hide behind their hatred of Michael. Terri is gone, and she went many many years ago. You can't fake an autopsy showing that the part of her brain that controlled vision was dead and had been for years.

regardless of whether or not terri was aware of what was happening to her, at least some good came of the whole situation. now we know that starving to death is a peaceful and dignified way to die. maybe the U.S. can save some money and quit giving away food and money to other countries. just let them all live (and die) in peace and dignity.

I figured it was sarcasm..that wasnt lost on me, I just didnt get the point of the US sending money to other countries vs. the Schiavo case...

What am I missing here...(besides my mind, I guess.)

Well, since starvation is such a wonderful process, according to Larke, perhaps the US should continue giving the gift that is the United States...and spread more joy and peace through starvation.
Besides we could save money as well.
It would be a win-win sitiation.
exactly.

sorry it lost something in the translation. it made sense to me in my head... but that's not saying much.

Okay, I get it now...

I dont agree with that of course, but Im not really looking to argue the Schiavo case all over again. She was brain-damaged...which doesnt apply in the scenario given by Larke.

Terri Died 15 years ago.

that's why i added the

part. because none of the "care givers" ever said "because she is brain dead" starvation is a very peaceful way to die. they just flat out praised how wonderful and peaceful starving to death is. period.

in my grandpa's latter months, he had to wear a diaper and have someone change him, and my grandma had to feed him. He could swallow, and probably was aware of people, but couldn' talk or move.

Eventually, he decided that his time had come and refused to eat. My grandma tried to feed him, but he refused.

He was consious, and made that choice.

Terri was not consious, but when she was, she had expressed her wishes to her husband. She made her choice.

and he just conveniently waited to carry out her wishes (based on his word) only when it suited him.

yeah, if by "when it suited him" you mean "the whole ****ing time"

oh forget it. i wish i'd never posted in this thread.

my point had nothing to do with her wishes, her ex-husban's wishes, or her parents wishes. i was just making social commentary through sarcasm.

when there's some woman people are tired of hearing about, then it's peaceful to die of starvation. but when it's little kids in ethiopia it's all "we've got to do something about the poor little starving childrem". the hypocrisy sickens me. my postion has nothing to do with terri. i couldn't care less about her. i don't understand how people get so emotionally tied to complete strangers and their situations.

Dont get me wrong Larke...I didnt mean for what I said to come out that you deserved that comment...I meant it to be more of a sort of statement question along with a little irony.

Most of us at one time or another, myself included, have said something to the point of "what this person does (whomever it applies to) is no one's business," while we ourselves are commenting on the person or their situation as well.

I swear it wasnt intended to be a slap in the face!

Larke makes a very good point about hypocracy. All the attention to one woman versus all the starving going on elsewhere in the world. Terri was indeed a political football.
