Who in their right mind turns down $1 billion? |
| Posted by: Sierradaddy | | George Lucas, that's who.
If he doesn't do the final 3 episodes of Star Wars, then he's in effect turned down somewhere in the neighbourhood of $1 billion, maybe more...
So what if he's already got $1 billion... You can NEVER have enough money, and you can NEVER get another chance at making 3 more movies that will fill a dire need for so many people (among them, the weirdos who camp out for days in front of a theatre, stinking up the block because they avoid showering to see if they can cause others ahead of them in line to run away gagging...).
C'mon Lucas, do what's best for the most people.... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Yeah, but your're also talking about another decade of his life devoted to something he's already spent 30 years doing. He doesn't have to worry about money ever again, and neither does his family for the next 50 years, if not more. While I would love another trilogy, I don't blame him for hanging up his lightsaber for good.

| Posted by: Sierradaddy | | I don't blame him either, but it would be nice for him to recognize that it is a contribution to the world that isn't complete yet. If the contribution calls for 9 movies, and you've only made 6, then you're 2/3 done, and should stick to it for the sake of contributing to the artistic work of humankind.
I've turned this from deciding when responsibilities to fans has run its course, to a rant on completing one's contributions to mankind, whether you've already achieved financial dominance or not...
I just want more films, if they remain as well-done as RotS.
T'would be nice... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | Oh yeah, it would rule. Maybe he could just make a CGI deal with the actors voices. I bet Harrison Ford would sack up and do it.
I mean, we're still getting two TV shows and the original trilogy in 3D, so he's not giving up just yet.

| Posted by: Sierradaddy | | True. I guess for now that'll quench my thirst, but it's not the same as Gatorade (finishing up the "nonilogy" by completing the final trilogy...) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: ghetto_child | | I think he mine as well stop while hes ahead. There doesnt need too be 9 movies... honestly why risk ruining the trilogy, he ended it perfectly. Theres no need to continue and possibly ruin it with such a bogus story, or this CGI stuff hes been going crazy with. He explained everything in episodes 1-2-3, and then explained what happened later in 4-5-6. does it really matter what happened in the future future, lol. I mean i dont see a real story from it, besides throwing another war together without Vader or the Emperor (seems they died), or showing how Luke has some kids, which I dont care about. It would be kind of pointless and dull. Of course we have all the hardcore Star Wars fans that would see it, and even regular people. But I mean after episode 7, people would be bored, and not care to see 8-9. The guys got BANK right now, he can live well past 50 years, he can live a few lifes on what hes sitting on right now. Lets just respect his wishes, hes brought us 6 fantastic films, and devoted half his life to the fans and making of the movies. Lets let him live the other half... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: brochu13 | | He already has well over a billion dollars and he's wasted (maybe not wasted, but spent) so much of his life doing this star wars thing. Just give it up, live your life now like a normal person. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Sierradaddy | | A normal person doesn't have a billion dollars. A normal person works all their life, at least in North America.
George Lucas no longer qualifies as a normal person. He is a public figure who has used his imagination and other creative talents to contribute to the popular culture of at least 2 generations of the world.
If he wants to stop, I'm sure that he's in a position to do so, and while I might have trouble with it, I will accept it and move on, with respect for his wishes. I just say that it's too bad that it won't be completed. I really got interested in seeing more since I found Ep III to have been such a delight. The movie was the best of the new series, and maybe for me, the best of all of them. | | Reply To this Message
