First, let me start off by saying that I am a Catholic. What I believe religiously is for me, my family and other Catholics. My views do not in any way pertain to those who have different beliefs or morals.
What I will say however is that those who claim to be "pro-lifers" have really presented no other alternative to the abortion issue other than not having one.
Okay, so let's say that abortion is abolished. What happens to a young girl who is raped and is not mentally capacitated to care for a child? Where is the support for both the mother and child? Do we expect them to go on welfare and simply exist rather than to grow and become contributors to society? Isn't being "pro-life" also being proactive?
I think that abortions would become less frequent if support, other than welfare, could be had throughout both the mother and child's struggle to grow, contribute and live rather than to just exist.
The problem to me isn't so much about the law as it is the solution to a much deeper problem.

As a Catholic and a very pro-life person, I hear what you are saying. For me, I know making abortion illegal is not the answer. I know our faith says not to use birth control, and I don't, but I see using birth control as a far better answer than using abortion as birth control (that does happen, although the choicers like to pretend it doesn't).
Choicers do like to highlight, as you did, the 1% of unwanted pregnancies that occur due to rape. I do not believe its okay to kill even that unborn child, it simply does not make sense to me to devalue that child's life because of the circumstances of its conception. Nor is it right to make that child pay for the sins of his or her father.
I think that the first step we need to make birth control education paramount to avoid unwanted pregnancies in the first place. Abstinence is not unattainable, its not the easiest, but it does work.
Secondly, we absolutely need to have support systems in place to help those women who have unwanted pregnancies that DO choose life for their child. Whether they want to keep it or put the child up for adoption, they need support (personal and financial).
who is abortion really affecting. Think about it, if you say women shouldn't have an abortion and u end up getting pregnant, in the end is it going to change anything for u? No because you're still goin to give birth because thats your perspective to let a child live. now imagine, a young 14 year old girl who got raped or soemhtign and is having a child and because abortion became illegal, she can't have abortion, now who si it really going to affect you or the girl. My point is, if u don't like abortion don't get an abortion, and if u do like the idea and get pregnant and have an abortion, well good for you. I think its pretty much your choice whether you should get an abortion or not and not anybody elses. Some people might feel like its killin a life, ya dats true, but i think whoever stomach the lfie is in has the choice to kill the thing or not. (don't take this in a bad way) but God kill people everyday *does the sign of the cross* I mean, life is not really eternal.
IF someone is raped, then I think they should go that night to get the morning after pill. That makes the uterus unable to have an egg implant. We are talking 8 cells or so at that point, and we should remember that not all fertilized eggs implant in the first place. I think that the option of that should be presented so that the traditional abortion where there is a heart beat is avoided more. Do I like that there are abortions? NO. I do however think that there are circumstances where they are going to be persued. What about women who are on medication that causes horrible life threatening birth defects? It is a decision each woman that becomes pregnant will have to make.
I've never liked the idea of pro-life and pro-choice because it tries to create a division of people that oppose abortion and people that are against abortion. Nobody likes abortion, no women is ecstatic about aborting her pregnancy, getting all antsy waiting to get another a few months later. There are some people that will abuse abortion as birth control, but by far most make the decision based on reasonable circumstances. I myself think abortion is wrong and think people should be more responsible; at the same time I think it would be wrong to try and treat pregnancy as a punishment for having sex when you're too young, or having a condom break, or other various scenarios that could occur.
An abortion is a medical procedure first and foremost and it should be treated as such. Legislation should not get in the way of this. I've always thought of a scenario where abortion is only legal if the mother's life or health is in danger. What if a doctor says the mother's health is in danger and someone doesn't agree with this assessment? Do you go to court to figure out what needs to be done? How long should this case be? Would it be realistic to have a slate of court cases dealing with the whether an abortion is warranted? What if it turns out the doctor was right and you have a woman that dies or becomes disabled because they were waiting for the hearing on whether she should have an abortion? I think you can get my point, this is a medical procedure and muddying the patient-doctor interaction with law will create more problems than it solves.
The one thing people have to remember is that doctors don't have to perform an abortion on demand, they can refuse. There are many doctors who will refuse to perform an abortion under circumstances so we should leave abortion up to the patient and doctor.
Well, anyone can say what they want. The truth is that there is no alternative to aborting a pregnancy. I think the answer lies in support for the mother and child.
