Kylie breast cancer shock

Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with breast cancer, her management company said today.

The singer, who will be 36 later this month, cancelled her sell-out tour of Australia after the diagnosis, her touring company said.

In a statement, Kylie said: "I was so looking forward to bringing the Showgirl tour to Australian audiences and am sorry to have to disappoint my fans. Nevertheless, hopefully all will work out fine and I'll be back with you all again soon."

Her management said the diagnosis was confirmed this week during a visit to Melbourne.

In a statement, it said: "Whilst at home in Melbourne with her family this week prior to her Australian Showgirl Tour, Kylie was diagnosed with early breast cancer. She will undergo immediate treatment and consequently her Australian tour will not be able to proceed as planned."

The singer has already taken the Showgirl tour around the UK and Europe. She was due to perform in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth over the next month.

Glastonbury doubt?

Ms Minogue had been due to headline at this year's Glastonbury Festival next month.

The singer has worked to raise money for breast cancer over recent years and has regularly worked to publicise Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

One of her skimpiest bras was sold at auction for a record £2,400 three years ago for Breast Cancer Care.

Cause unknown

The causes of breast cancer are not yet completely understood but the risk of developing it is very small in young women and increases with age.

According to the CancerBACUP charity, more than half of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 65. About 5 to 10 per cent of breast cancers are thought to be caused by inherited genes. Breast cancer is a common cancer and about one in nine women in the UK will develop it during their lifetime.

Women who do not have children are slightly more likely to develop breast cancer than women who do have children, the charity said. Most breast cancers will be treated with surgery to remove the tumour.

Kylie's fellow Australian star Delta Goodrem was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2003.

So so sad, she is such a cutie and we love her over here.

Aparently her tour has been officially "postponed" not "cancelled". Our radio stations were just starting to gear up for the tour, doing promos and ticket give-aways and all that. Maybe when they reschedule the tour after she's better from cancer, then I can get tickets!

Tributes are pouring in from all over the world for Kylie Minogue after it was revealed yesterday that she has been diagnosed with early stages of breast cancer. Websites, radio shows and TV stations have been inundated with fans wishing Kylie a speedy recovery and messages of support. Her official web site has been full of people with similar experiences sharing their stories, people who listened to Kylie's music through their own hard times telling how Kylie gave them strength.

Now it is their turn to return the favour.

Fans have always been a big part of Kylie's career. She is one artist who truly appreciates the fact that without your fans, you have nothing. This appreciation of her fans was evident in her official statement released yesterday after the diagnosis: Kylie apologised to her fans for not being able to continue her "Show Girl" show. Just hours after the horrible diagnosis and shs is worried about her fans.

Australian fans are disappointed, no doubt, her first leg of the Australian tour, the Sydney show, was to be tonight. But most of them are more concerned about Kylie getting treatment, getting better and THEN they will worry about re-securing tickets. Some fans are even optimistic, Kylie couldn't add extra dates to her sold-out shows across Australia, due to committment sin Europe such as the Glastonbury Festival. With these commitments also post-poned or cancelled, there is a chance that when the Show Girl tour is rescheduled, that more shows and more tickets will be available.

Kylie is said to be as disappointed about the shows as her fans as she really was looking forward to bringing the show home after sell out shows across Europe. However, her health must come first and she will be admitted to hospital in Melbourne today to have the lump from her breast removed for biopsy in order to ascertain the severity of the cancer. Then she will proceed to chemo- or radio-therapy.

Kylie is said to be in high spirits despite the bad news and is surrounded by family and friends during this crisis. Her mother, father and brother are all with her, staying at her parent's home and Dannii is said to be flying back to Australia as we write to be with her sister.

Friends have also rallied around the star, Olivia Newton-John, breast cancer survivor, was in Melbourne yesterday when the news of Kylie's cancer was revealed and was in contact with Kylie to offer her advice and support. Other stars all over the world have offered their condolances. Ronan Keating, in an interview on British TV this morning, offered his support. Ronan's mother passed away as a result of her battle with breast cancer a few years ago and Ronan had started a walk across Ireland to raise awareness and money for reasearch and treatment of cancer.

Kylie has long been a campaigner for Breast Cancer funds and reasearch, we hope that she can now benefit from all the hard work she has put into the cause. Good luck Kylie.

"I was shocked and concerned to hear of Kylie's illness. My thoughts are with her and her family at this difficult time. I sincerely wish her well with this treatment. Kylie's a strong woman who will fight this battle on every front."

Sir Elton John

"He wishes her lots of love and a speedy recovery," his spokesman said.

Anne Charleston

Anne Charleston, who played Kylie's mum Madge Ramsay in Neighbours, said the news was like "a stab to the heart".

She told GMTV: "If it's diagnosed early enough, it can be treated and I think it's a good thing that she's in Australia with her family. They are a very close family and you do need your family around you. When I heard, it was like a stab to the heart because it happened to me at that same age. I think she'll come through it fine. She's very healthy generally and I'm sure she will come through it, but it's an emotional thing having something like this because you go into the operation not knowing quite what's going to happen."

Pete Waterman

http://static.sky.com/images/pictures/1297801.jpg

Pete's former record company Stock Aitken & Waterman launched Kylie's pop career in 1988

"Kylie has my deepest sympathy but having lost my eldest son earlier this year I'm afraid I find it far too sensitive to discuss illness. I am so shocked to hear this news particularly since Mike Stock and I had a very poignant reunion with her at her recent Earls Court gig where there were a lot of hugs and kisses. My very best wishes go to her, and of course her family, at this difficult time - my heart goes out to her."

Geri Halliwell

http://static.sky.com/images/pictures/1284289.jpg

Geri, who had a brush with the disease, said: "Like everyone else, Kylie is in my thoughts and I hope she makes a successful and speedy recovery. No women are immune to breast cancer; it does not discriminate, it can happen to anyone at any time. Awareness is everything and I would hope that this sad news encourages women everywhere to get regular checks."

Nell McAndrew

http://static.sky.com/images/pictures/1253427.jpg

Nell McAndrew, who works with cancer charities, said: "It just shows it can happen to anyone. It can affect so many people and there are thousands of people being diagnosed every day. Hopefully if they've caught it early, she can get the right treatment and it will be successful so she can carry on. Celebrities are normal people as well. We are all just human beings and this just shows it can happen to anyone."

Gloria Hunniford

http://static.sky.com/images/pictures/1297802.jpg

Television presenter Gloria's daughter, former Blue Peter star Caron Keating, died last April, following a seven-year battle with breast cancer.

"Every young girl right across the world will be shocked today because Kylie is the epitome of someone who is young, fit and vibrant. She eats all the right things and does all the right things."

Ms Hunniford said Australia was a good place for Kylie to be right now "because of the sunshine and the complementary therapies that are available over there". Her daughter lived mostly in Australia in the last two years of her life and underwent alternative therapies. "These feel good treatment are fantastic for positivity, even for five minutes, or an hour or a day."

Radio DJ and friend Jono Coleman:

http://static.sky.com/images/pictures/1297800.jpg

"I heard very early this morning, I received some phone calls from Australia from people when the news was coming out there. (I'm) just shocked and saddened, very disbelieving that someone as healthy and as much of a showbiz trooper as Kylie is could suddenly be struck down with this situation."

Kylie Minogue coping 'gracefully' with cancer treatment, sister says

LONDON (AP) - Kylie Minogue is coping "gracefully" with the stresses of her treatment for breast cancer, the singer's sister said Tuesday.

Dannii Minogue said the 37-year-old pop diva had found messages from well-wishers around the world "very helpful and supportive." "Sis is doing really good," Minogue told Britain's GMTV television. "It's quite a stressful treatment," she added. "Anyone who is going through that would know that it is physical and mental.

"She is handling it very gracefully and I would just have to say that honouring her privacy I wouldn't want to go into any details of anything. It's a tough time on the family as well.

"But she wishes anyone else going through this, she wishes them all of her love and all the best as well."

Kylie Minogue cancelled her Showgirl tour in Australia in May after she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery to remove a lump from her breast.

Kylie denies 'desperate' reports

Kylie Minogue's managers have denied reports of "dramatic weight loss and desperate searches for alternative therapy" as she battles breast cancer.
A statement assured fans the singer was "in good spirits and is as healthy as can be expected" and hit out at "the wealth of rumours to the contrary".

She is still having her treatment regime in Paris, it said.

Press reports have claimed her weight has dropped to six stone and she plans to see a "holistic medicine guru".

But she did not want fellow cancer sufferers "to be misguided by the false stories regarding her condition and her choice of doctors", the statement from her record company said.

The Australian star, 37, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and had surgery in her home country before moving to Paris.

Several UK newspapers have reported that she is to visit London-based alternative medicine specialist Nish Joshi.

Dr Joshi wrote a book called Holistic Detox and has reportedly treated stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Ralph Fiennes, Patsy Kensit and Kate Moss.

He was said to have performed the "cupping" treatment, a kind of acupuncture, that famously left circular marks on Paltrow's skin.

Kylie's mother flies in to help her fight

Kylie Minogue's mother has flown to Paris to be with the star as she continues her fight against breast cancer. Carol Minogue travelled from Melbourne to her daughter's side, bringing love and support.

http://www.inreview.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=618488

One of the 37-year-old Australian singer's closest friends said yesterday: "At this time, I think any woman in the world would want their mum with them, and likewise there is nowhere her mum would rather be - Kylie and her mother are incredibly close."

Miss Minogue, whose condition was diagnosed in May, has been undergoing chemotherapy at the Institute Gustave-Roussy in Paris, one of the world's leading cancer treatment centres.

She has been comforted by her boyfriend Olivier Martinez, and by visits from her London-based younger sister Dannii.

Miss Minogue's mother was with her for the first few months after the diagnosis, but remained in Australia when the star travelled to Europe to be with Martinez - although she also paid a visit to Paris in August.

The friend said: "Olivier has been tremendously supportive. He has cancelled every project that he can and is spending so much time with Kylie, keeping her spirits up - but obviously she wants her family around her as well. The plan is for Kylie and Olivier to go back to Australia to be with her family by Christmas at the latest."

Undergone surgery

Miss Minogue has undergone a lumpectomy to remove the cancerous tissue and is currently having chemotherapy - but she may well also have to have a mastectomy.

Despite the severity of her condition, the singer issued a statement last week staunchly denying rumours that she was "depressed" and that she was seeking treatment from an alternative medicine guru who uses the controversial practice of "cupping".

The statement said: "Despite the wealth of rumours to the contrary, Kylie is in good spirits and is as healthy as can be expected whilst undergoing her treatment regime in Paris."

It also denied that Miss Minogue had "sought alternative methods of treatment" saying that she "was concerned that other sufferers would be misled by such reports".
